(A Focus Heart in a Midst of a Distracted World)

Mathiơ 4:1-11

 

"Bấy giờ, Đức Thánh Linh đưa Đức Chúa Jêsus đến nơi đồng vắng, đặng chịu ma quỉ cám dỗ. 2 Ngài đã kiêng ăn bốn mươi ngày bốn mươi đêm rồi, sau thì đói. 3 Quỉ cám dỗ đến gần Ngài, mà nói rằng: Nếu ngươi phải là Con Đức Chúa Trời, thì hãy khiến đá nầy trở nên bánh đi. 4 Đức Chúa Jêsus đáp: Có lời chép rằng: Người ta sống chẳng phải chỉ nhờ bánh mà thôi, song nhờ mọi lời nói ra từ miệng Đức Chúa Trời. 5 Ma quỉ bèn đem Ngài vào nơi thành thánh, đặt Ngài trên nóc đền thờ, 6 và nói rằng: Nếu ngươi phải là Con Đức Chúa Trời, thì hãy gieo mình xuống đi; vì có lời chép rằng: Chúa sẽ truyền các thiên sứ gìn giữ ngươi, Thì các Đấng ấy sẽ nâng ngươi trong tay, Kẻo chân ngươi vấp nhằm đá chăng. 7 Đức Chúa Jêsus phán: Cũng có lời chép rằng: Ngươi đừng thử Chúa là Đức Chúa Trời ngươi. 8 Ma quỉ lại đem Ngài lên trên núi rất cao, chỉ cho Ngài các nước thế gian, cùng sự vinh hiển các nước ấy; 9 mà nói rằng: Ví bằng ngươi sấp mình trước mặt ta mà thờ lạy, thì ta sẽ cho ngươi hết thảy mọi sự nầy. 10 Đức Chúa Jêsus bèn phán cùng nó rằng: Hỡi quỉ Sa-tan, ngươi hãy lui ra! Vì có lời chép rằng: Ngươi phải thờ phượng Chúa là Đức Chúa Trời ngươi, và chỉ hầu việc một mình Ngài mà thôi. 11 Ma quỉ bèn bỏ đi; liền có thiên sứ đến gần mà hầu việc Ngài."

(Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’” / 5 Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning You’; and ‘On their hands they will bear You up, So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’” 7 Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” / 8 Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; 9 and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’” 11 Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.)

 

 

I. Life Distractions

 

          Have you ever been distracted so much, that you missed your goal or a deadline? (Có bao giờ bạn bị lo ra điều gì qúa mức mà không đạt được mục đích mình muốn làm, hay quên lãng một cuộc hẹn nào không?)

# May be you are so distracted with the surrounding scenery or advertising boards, that you missed an exit or ran a red light? (Có bao giờ bạn quá lo ra những khung cảnh xung quanh hay những bảng quảng cáo trên đường mà lỡ vượt khỏi một lối ra mình phải đi, hay chẳng may vượt đèn đỏ không?)

# Don’t you know that the No. 1 cause of automobile accidents is not speeding (that’s no. 2), or DWI (no. 3), but distractions due to talking, texting or eating while driving? (Bạn có biết là lý do số một ngày nay gây ra những vụ đụng xe, không phải là lái quá tốc độ, hay bị ảnh hưởng của rượu, nhưng là lo ra bởi vì nói chuyện trên điện thoại, nhắn tin trên điện thoại hay ăn uống trong lúc lái xe không?)

# May be you are so distracted with life pleasures, watching excessive football, playing video games, fishing, cooking, shopping that you did not finish preparing to teach or study for Sunday School? (Có thể bạn đang quá lo ra với những thú vui trên đời này, xem Football nhiều quá, mê chơi những trò chơi điện tử, đi câu cá, nấu ăn, mua sắm mà đã không còn thì giờ để soạn dạy bài học Kinh Thánh kỹ càng không?)

 

> In Matthew 14, recorded one time when the disciples faced a great storm and Jesus appeared to them, walking on the water; Peter was so excited and wanted to walk on the water toward Jesus. Jesus then said to Peter, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” The distractions of the wind and waves that made Peter sinking. (Trong Mathiơ 14 chép có lần các môn đồ của Chúa gặp phải một cơn giông tố giữa biển, thì họ thấy Chúa Giê-xu đi bộ trên mặt biển; Phiêrơ cũng muốn đi trên mặt nước đến với Ngài. Khi ra khỏi thuyền đi trên mặt nước thì Phiêrơ thấy gió và sóng, bị chi phối, phân tâm thì sợ và bắt đầu bị chìm.)

 

> Distractions can surely prevent us from reaching our goals, our dreams, to be what we want to be, or what we should be. (Sự lo ra cản trở c/ta đạt được mục tiêu mình muốn, những ước mơ, và mục đích sống của mình.)

# Many high school kids have dreams to achieve a college degree, until they started working at Burger King, flipping hamburgers, and getting some paid checks, begun to buy a car, feeling comfortable, got distracted and forgot their bright future. (Vô số các bạn trẻ có mộng mong gặt hái được một bằng cấp cao trong tương lai, nhưng bắt đầu làm việc trong các nhà hàng fast food, như Burger King, được trả lương, lấy ngay tiền đó đi mua xe, có chút tiền mua sắm, thấy cuộc sống thoải mái, cứ đi làm như vậy và rồi đánh mất mộng ước của mình, phí phạn cuộc đời.)

> This hi-tech demanding world today is full of electronic toys and technologies that make our life better, faster, more convenience, but also much more distractions. (Thế giới ngày nay c/ta sống có nhiều những máy điện tử giúp cho sự liên lạc nhanh hơn, tốt hơn, tiện nghi hơn, nhưng cùng một lúc cũng gây ra biết bao nhiêu là những điều lo ra và phân tâm, làm tổn hại nhiều mối liên hệ.)

# We see this all the times, when people gather together, they sit at the same table, but everyone focus on their cell phones. (Biết bao nhiêu lần c/ta thấy hình ảnh nhiều gia đình nhóm lại thông công, ngồi chung một bàn, nhưng tâm trí của mọi người đều chú tâm đến cái máy Iphone của mình.)

 

> What about our spiritual life, are we distracting and NOT living as what we should be? (Còn đời sống tâm linh của mỗi người c/ta thì sao? Có đang bị chi phối bởi điều gì không?)

> What is our spiritual goal that we are distracted from? (Có điều gì đang làm c/ta bị lo ra, mục đích của đức tin c/ta có đang bị chi phối không?)

> How can we avoid distractions, so that we can live a life that is pleasing to God? (Làm sao c/ta sống để tránh khỏi những sự lo ra, phân tâm xung quanh mình đây?)

> Let’s learn from Jesus Who had a focus heart of God’s will in the midst of the world full of distractions from the forces of the evil one. (Hãy học ở nơi Chúa Giê-xu – Ngài luôn có một tấm lòng tập trung đến ý muốn của Đức Chúa Cha cho Ngài, đến trong một thế giới đầy những sự lo ra, và cám dỗ.)

 

 

II. Jesus’ Temptations

 

          In Matthew 4:1-11 recorded that when Jesus begun His ministry to preach about the kingdom of God, He went up to the mountain for 40 days and nights fasting and praying. (Trong Mathiơ 4 ghi chép lại trước khi Chúa Giê-xu bắt đầu sứ mạng truyền bá chương trình cứu chuộc và nước thiên đàng, Ngài lên núi 40 ngày đêm để kiêng ăn và cầu nguyện.)

> When coming down of the mountain, Jesus was tempted (or got distracted) by satan three times, but Jesus did not lose His focus of His mission. (Khi xuống núi, Chúa đói và ma quỉ cám dỗ, muốn cản trở sứ mạng của Ngài bằng cách cám dỗ Chúa đến 3 lần.)

 

> To understand the distractions, we must first ask what was Jesus mission to earth? (Trước hết c/ta phải hiểu sứ mạng của Chúa Giê-xu đến thế gian này là gì mà satan muốn cản trở?)

 

1) His mission came from His Father, and not of Himself. (Sứ mạng này trao cho từ Đức Chúa Cha.)

# John 3:16 – probably the most favorite verse summarized of the Father’s will – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (Trong Giăng 3:16 chép lại ý muốn của ĐCT là gì mà Ngài đã sai Con Ngài đến thế gian – “Vì Đức Chúa Trời yêu thương thế gian, đến nỗi đã ban Con một của Ngài, hầu cho hễ ai tin Con ấy không bị hư mất mà được sự sống đời đời.”)

> Because God the Father loves this sinful world, He decided to save us, so He had to send His Son to come down to do this, so no one will perish. (Vì yêu nhân thế, Đức Chúa Cha quyết định cứu con người tội lỗi, để rồi Ngài phải sai Con một là Chúa Giê-xu đến thế gian, để không một ai bị hư mất.)

> Jesus left His glory in heaven and came into this world not really to perform miracles, but to do His Father will, saving the world from the condemnation and eternal punishment of sins. (Chúa Giê-xu đến thế gian không phải để làm phép lạ hay lập một vương quốc riêng cho mình, nhưng làm theo ý muốn của Chúa Cha, cứu nhân loại ra khỏi sự đóan xét và trừng phạt của tội lỗi.)

> God’ will was that Jesus had to die on the cross to redeem sinners back to God. (Chương trình của ĐCT là Con Ngài phải bằng lòng hạ mình, lìa bỏ ngôi vinh hiển, mặc lấy thân thể loài người, đến thế gian chịu chết trên cây thập tự, đổ huyết làm gía chuộc tội.)

 

2) Jesus’ focus was always at the cross and did not get distracted with all the “invitations” of power, fame, richness, or pleasures of this world. (Chúa Giê-xu luôn đặt trọng tâm cho cuộc sống của mình trên đất là thập tự gía, và Ngài không để một điều chi thuộc ở đời này chi phối trọng tâm đó.)

> There was instant that the crowds followed Jesus after seeing His miracles, they tried to force Him to be their King, but Jesus knew their heart and disappeared among them. Why? (Có lần sau khi Chúa làm phép lạ thì đám đông muốn ép Ngài trở nên làm vua của họ, nhưng Chúa lẻn và biến đi mất. Tại sao?)

# Because His mission to come to this world was not to be an earthly king, to gain power, to become rich, but to be a sacrifice for our sins. (Lý do là vì trọng tâm của sứ mạng Ngài đến thế gian lúc đó không phải là để làm vua trên đất, giải cứu họ khỏi ách người Lamã, nhưng làm của lễ chuộc tội.)

> Jesus did not get distracted with power, pleasures or richness of this world. He focused on the mission that the Father had called Him to do. (Chúa Giê-xu không bị lo ra, chi phối bởi sự mời mọc của quyền thế, giàu có của cải vật chất trên thế gian này, nhưng chỉ chú tâm đến sứ mạng Cha Ngài trao cho.)

 

> Do you think the evil one satan did not know this? (Quí vị có nghĩ rằng satan biết điều này không?)

> How did satan try to tempt Jesus? (Hãy xem cách nó đã muốn chi phối mục đích sống của Chúa?)

 

1) After 40 days and nights on the mountain, Jesus was hungry; this was one of the important physical needs, and it was the best time for satan to tempt Jesus by challenging Him to turn rocks into bread. (Chúa Giê-xu lúc đó đói bụng sau 40 ngày kiêng ăn và đây là cơ hội tốt ma quỉ có thể cám dỗ Ngài bằng cách thách thức Chúa hãy biến những hòn đá ra bánh mà ăn đi.)

> Could Jesus do that? Of course Jesus could, because He is God, the Creator of all things, but Jesus could not listen to satan, who was created by Him for a piece of bread; He came to this world to listen and do His Father’s will, and NOT just to satisfy His stomach. (Chúa Giê-xu có thể làm được điều này không? Đương nhiên là được, vì Ngài chính là Đấng Tạo Hóa, nhưng Chúa không thể nghe theo lời của satan là vật chính Ngài dựng nên; Chúa đến thế gian là nghe và làm theo lời ĐCT, chứ không chỉ để làm mình no bụng.)

# Remember during the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman in John 4, Jesus surprised His disciples when Jesus said: “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.” (Cuộc đàm thoại giữa Chúa Giê-xu với người đàn bà Samari chép trong Giăng 4, làm cho các môn đồ của Ngài ngạc nhiên khi Chúa nói: “Đồ ăn của ta tức là làm theo ý muốn của Đấng sai ta đến, và làm trọn công việc Ngài.”)

 

> Satan today tempts us the same way through many channels of our physical needs, and the number bait is money. (Ngày hôm nay, ma quỉ cũng hay dùng những mồi cám dỗ của nhu cầu vật chất để cám dỗ c/ta, và mồi béo nhất đó là “tiền bạc.”)

# 1 Timothy 6:9-10 – “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”  (Trong 1 Timothy 6:9-10 chép sức mạnh của lòng tham tiền bạc là gì? “Còn như kẻ muốn nên giàu có, ắt sa vào sự cám dỗ, mắc bẫy dò, ngã trong nhiều sự tham muốn vô lý thiệt hại kia, là sự làm đắm người ta vào sự hủy diệt hư mất. 10 Bởi chưng sự tham tiền bạc là cội rễ mọi điều ác, có kẻ vì đeo đuổi nó mà bội đạo, chuốc lấy nhiều điều đau đớn.”)

> The power of money can change people heart from God to idols – you all know that. (Lòng tham tiền bạc rất dễ làm tấm lòng của một người “thay trắng đổi đen,” bỏ Chúa đi thờ thần Mamôn.)

> What are you willing to do for a price of 1 million dollars? (Bạn sẽ dám làm gì với gía là 1 triệu đồng?)

# A show on TV, people were willing to drink water contained in a dirty shoe with a gold fish for 100$ bill. (Trên TV ngày xưa có show, người ta sẵn sàng làm gì với tờ giấy 100 đôla? Có người đã bằng lòng uống nước từ trong một chiếc giày dơ có một con cá vàng nhỏ trong đó để lấy 100$)

> Have you seen or known some Christians have wandered from the faith because of the love for money? (Bạn có biết bao nhiêu người cơ đốc đã “bỏ đạo” vì tiền bạc không?)

> Not to mention other physical needs that satan uses to distract us, such as illicit sex, power, fame, pleasures from being Christians as what we should be. (Chưa nói hết đến những nhu cầu vật chất khác ma quỉ thường dùng để cám dỗ c/ta từ tình dục xấu xa, quyền thế, danh tiếng, đến những thú vui chơi, làm c/ta không sống đúng mục đích của một người cơ đốc.)

# What do king Solomon, David and president Bill Clinton have in common? They are all great men but got distracted in the sin of adultery. It can happen to anyone of us as well.

 

2) Satan tried to create doubt in Jesus’ heart about His Father’s will by challenging Jesus to throw Himself down and God’s angels would care for Him. (Quỉ satan muốn gây sự nghi ngờ trong lòng của Chúa Giê-xu về ý muốn của ĐCT cho mình bằng cách thách thức Ngài hãy thử gieo mình xuống đi thì ĐCT sẽ sai thiên sứ đến đỡ chân cho.)

> If Jesus obeyed satan and threw Himself down, His mission would end right there because Jesus was in a human form at that time just like us; but He did not get distracted because the Son trusted the Father completely to come to this world to do His will. (Nếu Chúa Giê-xu nghe theo lời thách thức thì công tác của Ngài chấm dứt ở đó, vì lúc đó Chúa mang bản tánh thân xác của con người, nhưng Chúa đến tin cậy hoàn toàn nơi Đức Chúa Cha và làm trọn ý Ngài.)

 

> Satan is a crafty master of creating doubts in our heart and mind. (Quỉ sata rất quỉ quyệt, luôn gây sự nghi ngờ trong lòng c/ta về lời của Chúa.)

# At the garden in Genesis 3, how did the snake create doubt in Eve’s heart by questioning her – “Are you sure that God said that “you shall not eat from any tree of the garden?” (Tại vườn sự sống con rắn cám dỗ bà Êva bằng cách bắt đầu đặt một câu hỏi trong lòng bà là có phải Chúa cấm bà không được ăn tất cả mọi cây trong vườn không?)

> Today, the snake continues to do the same thing using the evidences of science, DNA, evolution… to question many people about their faith, creating doubts in our mind to question about the Word of God. (Ngày hôm nay ma quỉ cũng tiếp tục dùng những chứng cớ của khoa học hiện đại, thuyết tiến hóa… gieo vào trong đầu óc của nhiều người sự nghi ngờ về sự chính xác của Kinh Thánh, lời Chúa có thật không?)

# How could a virgin give birth to a child? (Làm sao một cô trinh nữ thụ thai được?)

# How could a big fish swallowed someone for 3 days and nights and still alive? (Làm sao một con cá lớn nuốt một người trong bụng 3 ngày đêm mà còn sống được?)

# How can a death of a single person on the cross save the whole world? (Làm sao chỉ một người chết mà có thể cứu cả nhân laọi được?)

> Through life suffering, satan creates doubt in our heart by asking us – where is God? If God is real then why you are still suffering, just kill yourself – that’s the answer? (Qua những khổ đau trong đời sống, ma quỉ thách thức và gây sự nghi ngờ trong lòng của c/ta - nếu Chúa có thật thì tại sao bạn cứ còn bị khổ sở hoài vậy, thôi thì tự sát đi?)

 

3) Satan could not deter Jesus from His focus, so he then offered Jesus a shortcut of all of his power for a little worship. (Quỉ satan không thay đổi trọng tâm của Chúa Giê-xu được, cho nên cuối cùng nó mời mọc Chúa qua mọi quyền thế, nó hứa sẽ cho Ngài nếu Chúa bằng lòng thờ lạy nó.)

# Satan is the prince of this world - this is powerful. (Ma quỉ là chúa của thế gian mờ tối này với đầy quyền lực.)

# Have you ever dreamed that one of your kids, grand kids one day be the president of the US? How about the powerful leader of all the nations in the world, a total of 196 countries? If it costs you to deny God, would you do it? (Bạn có bao giờ ước mơ con cháu mình được làm tổng thống của nước Hoakỳ một ngày không? Hơn nữa làm lãnh đạo của toàn thế giới tất cả 196 quốc gia? Nếu gía phải trả là chối bỏ Chúa thì gia đình bạn có bằng lòng không?) 

> Many people will do anything to get a little power from lying, cheating, breaking the rules to murdering. (Biết bao nhiêu người sẵn sàng làm bất cứ điều gì từ chỗ nói láo, gian xảo cho đến thủ đoạn giết người chỉ để chiếm được một ít quyền thế, phải không?)

 

> Satan tried to distract Jesus from His mission by deterring Him from God’s word, creating doubts, offering the world power; but Jesus kept His focus on the cross, on His Father’s will for Him. (Quỉ satan cố gắng hết sức chi phối sứ mạng của Chúa Giê-xu, bằng cách cản trở Chúa nghe theo lời ĐCT, nghi ngờ Cha mình, hay là nhận quyền thế của trần gian này; nhưng Chúa Giê-xu cứ nhắm mục tiêu mình đó là thập tự gía, đó làm làm theo ý của Cha mình.)

 

 

III. Satan’s Tactics on Us

 

          The same tactics satan used to distract Jesus, he uses to tempt us from being what we should be. (Ma quỉ xử dụng những thủ đoạn giống hệt như vậy để cám dỗ, làm c/ta bị lo ra.)

# In 1 John 2:15-16, the word shows us three ways satan distracts us - “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.” (Trong 1 Giăng 2:15-16 – ma quỉ làm c/ta bị phân tâm qua 3 ngõ chính – “Chớ yêu thế gian, cũng đừng yêu các vật ở thế gian nữa; nếu ai yêu thế gian, thì sự kính mến Đức Chúa Cha chẳng ở trong người ấy. 16 Vì mọi sự trong thế gian, như sự mê tham của xác thịt, mê tham của mắt, và sự kiêu ngạo của đời, đều chẳng từ Cha mà đến, nhưng từ thế gian mà ra.”)

 

1) The lust of the flesh relate to our physical needs: from money, clothings, jobs, entertainements, pleasures, sports… (Sự mê tham của xác thịt qua những đòi hỏi của nhu cầu vật chất, từ tiền bạc đến những thú vui chơi qúa độ.)

> Satan will do everything to distract us from keeping the main thing, the main thing. (Ma quỉ sẽ làm mọi cách, thay thế nhiều thứ khác để cản trở c/ta không giữ những mục đích ưu tiên cho đời sống.)

# Satan substitutes santa claus and buying gifts with the true meaning of Christmas. 

# Satan substitutes cute bunnies with the meaning of Easter.

# Satan substitutes eating turkey, black Friday shopping with the meaning of Thanksgiving.

> The devils will do anything they can to prevent us from listening and understanding God’s word. (Ma quỉ sẽ làm mọi cách gieo đủ thứ những mồi cám dỗ vật chất, để cản trở con cái Chúa có thể nghe và hiểu được lời Chúa.)

 

2) The lust of the eyes is the main gate satan uses to distract us. (Sự mê tham của mắt là cánh cửa ma quỉ hay dùng để làm c/ta bị lo ra.)

> Even Jesus said in Matthew 6:22 – “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.” Vision is the pathway into our mind, then we act, then it becomes a habbit, and finally it defines the destiny of a person. (Chính Chúa Giê-xu cũng nói như thiên hạ hay nói: “Con mắt là cửa sổ của linh hồn,” nghĩa là qua sự thấy mà những sự lo ra ở đời này dễ đi vào tấm lòng của một người, từ đó sanh ra những hành động, thành thói quen, và cuối cùng định số mệnh của một người.)

> The power of vision through colors, shapes, and designs that draws so many distracted from Jesus. (Ngày nay thế giới bày ra đầy dẫy những màu sắc, hình thù, những nét đặc biệt làm biết bao nhiêu người bị lo ra.)

# Just look at the colors of Iphone covers – some have 10 different colorful covers, just 1 dollar each. (Có nhiều người mua đủ laọi màu sắc cho cái bọc của Iphone mình, chỉ có 1 đôla mà thôi.)

 

3) As you focus on the physical things through the power of visions, your “pride of life” will naturally deny Jesus and His salvation. (Mục đích satan cám dỗ c/ta qua sự mê tham của xác thịt và mê tham của mắt để rồi c/ta lên mình kiêu ngạo mà chẳng cần Chúa nữa.)

# Isn’t that the trap that America is falling in today? The nation becomes rich, powerful, colorful, hi-tech then why do I need to listen to God? (Có phải đây chính là mưu kế của ma quỉ cám dỗ nước Hoakỳ này chăng? C/ta đã trở nên hùng mạnh và giàu có, mọi nhu cầu vật chất được đáp ứng dư dật rồi thì cần Chúa làm chi nữa?)

 

 

IV. How to Re-focus

 

          Are we drawn into a strong current of distractions from this world? (C/ta có đang bị thu hút vào những sự lo ra của thế gian này không?)

> How can I re-focus my goal and purpose? (Làm sao c/ta điều chỉnh lại trọng tâm của đời sống tâm linh mình?)

 

1) Take time often each day to re-focus. (Hãy thường để dành thời gian ra mỗi ngày để điều chỉnh lại trọng tâm cho đời sống đức tin của mình.) 

# Check yourself – how many minutes you spend for the things of God, liked reading the Bible and pray each day? (Tự xét xem c/ta để thì giờ ra bao nhiêu phút mỗi ngày trong sự học lời Chúa, làm tiêu chuẩn của nếp sống mình?)

> Honestly, how many hours you spend each day on TV, Iphone, Facebook, E-mail, video games versus the time with God? (Hãy thành thật tự xét coi xem bao nhiêu tiếng đồng hồ mỗi ngày c/ta xử dụng Iphone, Facebook, e-mail, Ipad, chơi video games so sánh với thì giờ với Chúa?)

> That’s why the spiritual vision of many is blurry, so blurry to the point that some don’t even recognize that they are blinded spiritually. (Lý do đó mà vô số người có mục đích sống rất là lu mờ, gần như không còn nhận biết tình trạng mù quáng tâm linh của mình nữa.) 

 

# In Daniel 6, Daniel spent at least 3 times in a day to pray, and he did not loose focus on God and His commandments, even facing the order of the king – “that anyone who makes a petition to any god or man besides the king, shall be cast into the lions’ den.” (Trong Đaniên 6, Đaniên cầu nguyện mỗi ngày 3 lần, cho nên không di dịch trọng tâm của mình nơi Chúa, cho dù lệnh của vua có đề ra, đó là ai thờ lạy các thần nào khác ngoại trừ vua sẽ bị ném xuống hang sư tử.)

> Even Jesus spent time each day to focus on God’s will for Him - the cross, so that nothing could distract Him. (Chính Chúa Giê-xu khi còn sống, mỗi ngày để thì giờ với Cha của mình hầu cho mục đích sống, thập tự gía trước mắt không bao giờ bị sai lệch mất.)

# Luke 6:12 – “It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.” (“Trong lúc đó, Đức Chúa Jêsus đi lên núi để cầu nguyện; và thức thâu đêm cầu nguyện Đức Chúa Trời.)

> We need to take time everyday to re-focus, asking ourselves: Who am I? Why am I here? What is my life purpose? Who am I living for? (Mỗi ngày c/ta phải để thì giờ ra để luôn tự hỏi: Tôi là ai? Tại sao tôi còn tồn tại ở đây? Mục đích cho đời sống này là gì? Tôi đang sống cho ai?)

 

2) Be careful discerning and listening to God’s voice. (Hãy cẩn thận phân biệt và lắng nghe tiếng Chúa.)

> There are so many noises in this world, do you recognize God’s voice? (Thế gian này đầy dẫy những tiếng động ồn ào, bạn có phân biệt tiếng nào là lời của Chúa không?)

# Back when the telegraph was the fastest method of long distance communication, a young man applied for a job as a Morse code operator. (Câu chuyện thời xưa khi người ta chưa có điện thoại và dùng “morse code – tíc tè.” Có một hãng kia đang tìm một nhân viên chuyên môn để xử dụng máy morse code.)

> Answering an ad in the newspaper, there was a young man went to the office address that was listed. When he arrived, he entered a large, busy office filled with noise and clatter, including the sound of the telegraph in the background. (Ngày hôm đó có một chàng thanh niên đến đó tìm việc làm; khi đến thấy đã đông người ngồi đợi và ai nấy mặc đồ đẹp đẽ, chải chuốc gọn gàng.)

> A sign on the receptionist’s counter instructed job applicants to fill out a form and wait until they were summoned to enter the inner office. (Có cái bảng để mỗi người điền vào đơn rồi ngồi đợi được gọi vào.)

> The young man filled out his form and sat down with the seven other applicants in the waiting area. After a few minutes, the young man stood up, crossed the room to the door of the inner office. Naturally the other applicants perked up, and they muttered among themselves that they hadn’t heard any summons yet. (Anh thanh niên ngồi đợi chung với 7 người nữa, vài phút sau thì anh thanh niên tự nhiên đứng lên tự mở cửa đi vào, làm những người khác ngạc nhiên.)

> Others assumed that the young man who went into the office made a mistake and would be disqualified. (Những người khác thì tự nghĩ anh thanh niên này đi vào ẩu, khi chưa được gọi và chắc sẽ bị loại.)

> Within a few minutes, however, the employer escorted the young man out of the office and said to the other applicants, "Gentlemen, thank you very much for coming, but the job has just been filled." (Trong vòng có mấy phút sau thì có một cô thư ký bước ra với anh thanh niên và loan báo cho mọi người là họ đã mướn được người làm việc này rồi.)

> The other applicants began grumbling to each other, and one spoke up saying, "Wait a minute, I don’t understand. He was the last to come in, and we never even got a chance to be interviewed. Yet he got the job. That’s not fair!" (Những người khác lên tiếng phàn nàn là tại sao anh thanh niên hồi nãy đến trễ, cũng chẳng mặc đồ chỉnh tể mà sao được việc, còn họ thì chưa được phỏng vấn, điều này không có công bằng?”)

> The employer said, "I’m sorry, but all the time you’ve been sitting here, the telegraph has been ticking out the following message in Morse code: “If you understand this message, then come right in. The job is yours.’ None of you heard it or understood it. This young man did. The job is his." (Cô thư ký trả lời, khi mấy anh ngồi đợi có nghe tiếng morse đánh ra là “Bất cứ ai nghe và hiểu được tiếng morse này, thì cứ mở cửa đi vào thì chúng tôi sẽ mướn; Các quí vị ngồi đó nhưng bị lo ra không nghe tiếng morse, vì vậy c/tôi đã mướn anh thanh niên đã nghe, hiểu và làm y như vậy.”)

> The real issue was not that he was better qualified, better dressed, but others were distracted to listen to the morse code telegraph? (Vấn đề ở đây không phải là chàng thanh niên có mặc quần áo brand name gì, nhưng là khi những người khác đã bị lo ra, không tập trung để nghe được tiếng morse code gọi mình vào nhận việc làm?)

> How many people can hear God’s call to mission fields, to serve the church or we come here but our mind is so cluttered with many things of this world that we did not get the job? (Sẽ có bao nhiêu người trong c/ta đến đây mỗi Chúa Nhật có thể nghe được tiếng Chúa gọi mình, hay là tâm trí của c/ta bị hỗn loạn bởi những điều thuộc ở thế gian này?)

> If the devils can distract you and me from hearing the word, understanding the word, but being cluttered in the things of this world, then they are happy, they accomplish their work. (Nếu ma quỉ có thể làm quí vị bi lo ra mà không nghe được tiếng Chúa nói cùng mình, hiểu lời Chúa dạy dỗ, nhưng bị lộn xộn bởi những điều thuộc của thế gian này, thì c/nó rất vui vì đã thành công trong việc c/nó muốn làm.)

 

3) Guard your heart. (Canh giữ tấm lòng của mình.)

# Proverbs 4:23 – “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Châm Ngôn 4:23 – “Khá cẩn thận giữ tấm lòng của con hơn hết, Vì các nguồn sự sống do nơi nó mà ra.”)

> Guarding your heart by guarding what you let to get through you eyes and enter the heart. (Canh giữ tấm lòng bằng cách canh giữ những gì len lỏi vào con mắt của mình.)

> In everything you do – keep asking: Are the things I am doing help or hurt my focus of the goal? If not, I should minimize it. (Mọi sự mình làm đều tự hỏi, việc tôi làm có giúp ích gì cho trọng tâm của đời sống đức tin của tôi không, nếu không phải giảm bớt?)

# Is playing video games 6 hours on the weekend helping my faith? (Chơi video games 6 tiếng mỗi ngày cuối tuần có gíup đức tin của tôi không?)

# Is watching football 6 hours on Saturday help advancing the kingdom of God? (Xem football 6 tiếng mỗi thứ Bảy có giúp gì cho nước thiên đàng của Chúa không?)

# Is working in the yard or exercising 6 hours a day helping me to be a better Christian, better mom, dad, children, or church member? (Làm việc ngàoi sân hay tập thể dục 6 tiếng mỗi ngày có giúp mình trở nên một người cơ đốc tốt hơn không, người mẹ, cha, con cái, và hội viên của hội thánh Chúa tốt hơn không?)

> Any source that can distract me from focusing on God, I need to remove them today. (Những điều gì đang gây sự lo ra trong đời sống tôi mà cần phải loại ra không?)

# If cellphone can distract me from the worship time, then leave it in your car before you come in. (Nếu máy cell phone dễ làm c/ta bị lo ra trong giờ nhóm thì tại sao không bỏ ở trong xe đi?)

> Well, I use it as the Bible; but how many times you are using your cell phone that a message pops up and you get distracted from the message of God? (bạn lấy lý do là cần cell phone để đọc Kinh Thánh, nhưng rồi 1 nhắn tin đến, bạn có sẽ bị lo ra mà không nghe được tiếng Chúa nói cùng mình chăng?)

> Also, if you have an Iphone and use it, kids see it, and also want to have them to be cool liked you, and you actually set a trap for others to desire something that they don’t need. (Thêm nữa, bạn dùng cell phone làm cho những đứa trẻ em khác cũng muốn đòi cha mẹ có cell phone giống như vậy thì gían tiếp mình làm gương không tốt cho c/nó sao?)

 

4) Live a simple lifestyle so you can keep the priority to be first. (Tập sống 1 đời sống đơn giản.)

> Life is busy already, don’t make it even busier with so many toys that we have no time for the main thing. (Cuộc sống quá nhiều sự bận rộn rồi, không cần thêm nữa để mình có thể giữ và làm được những điều ưu tiên.)

> You don’t have to have all what the world has; everything in this world will pass away, the only thing left is love: love for God and for others; wordly things should never be more important than relationships. (bạn không cần phải có những gì người khác có; mọi sự trên đời này sẽ trôi qua. Những điều vật chất không thể nào so sánh bằng những mối liên hệ được.)

          So, I hope the sermon this morning help us to check ourselves and get rid all things that are distracting us from fulfilling the responsibility of a Christian, godly parents, godly husbands and wives, godly children, godly citizens, godly workers, godly church members, and godly leaders? (Mong bài chia xẻ giúp mỗi người tự hỏi xem và cất đi những điều gì mình đang bị lo ra mà chưa làm trọn trách nhiệm là con cái Chúa, những bậc cha mẹ cơ đốc, vợ chồng, con cái, hội viên, người làm công, và lãnh đạo của Chúa không?)

> Don’t ignore God Who keeps on saying to you: “Can you hear me now?” but make adjustments today. (Đừng xem thường lời Chúa gọi mình, nhưng hãy điều chỉnh đời sống ngay hôm nay.)

> Don’t get distracted on the things of this world, but focus on God’s will and purpose for your life to be the salt and light of the Gospel. (Đừng bị lo ra bởi những thứ ở đời này mà quên lãng mục đích và chương trình của Chúa cho chính mình, làm muối và ánh sáng cho Chúa.)

> Focus on the kingdom of God, focus on Jesus and do not turn to the left or to the right. (Chú tâm đến nước thiên đàng, chú tâm đến Chúa Giê-xu, đừng quay bên tả hoặc bên hữu.)

> Quí vị có biết là có khoãng trên 50 vụ xe lửa bị trật đường rầy trên thế giới từ đầu năm đến bây giờ không?

# Tỉ dụ như những xe lửa này chở hành khách và bạn đang đi trên chiếc xe lửa đó thì cảm thấy như thế nào?

> Chắc chắn bạn không muốn đi trên những chuyến xe lửa như vậy?

> Có mấy ai thường hay tự xét “chuyến xe lửa” của đời sống thuộc linh mình đang như thế nào không, có đang chạy vững ngay trên đường rầy của Chúa xếp đặt cho mình, cho gia đình mình không?

> Hay là c/ta “don’t care,” cho đến khi hậu quả xảy đến thì quá trễ rồi?

> Có những điều lo ra nào đang làm c/ta đi lệch một chút ý Chúa cho đời sống mình không?

# Ham thích những thú vui quá sức mà không có thì giờ để điều chỉnh đời sống đức tin của mình.

# Hãy thành thật tự xét thì giờ cầu nguyện và học lời Chúa của mình so sánh với những thú vui ở đời này đi, có chênh lệch quá sức không?

# C/ta đang nhắm mục đích, sự kêu gọi của Chúa cho mình như thế nào?

> Phải sống có thái độ lo công việc Chúa trước rồi mọi thứ khác tính sau.

> Phải có thì giờ với Chúa mỗi ngày để chú tâm đến mục tiêu của Chúa cho đời sống mình.

> Phải lắng nghe tiếng “morse code” của Ngài khi đọc lời Chúa.

> Phải canh chừng con mắt đừng để những xa hoa đời này làm lộn xộn lòng của mình.

> Phải tập sống một nếp sống đơn giản là đủ rồi.

> Phải điều chỉnh ngay hôm nay vì “xa một li đi một dặm.”

> Biết bao nhiêu mối liên hệ cứ không chịu điều chỉnh để rồi dẫn đến chỗ đổ vỡ sao?

# Lấy một tờ giấy trắng thành thật viết xuống những điều đang làm mình bị lo ra trong đời sống thuộc linh, cùng với những mục tiêu Chúa đang gọi mình, và cầu nguyện xin Thánh Linh giúp bỏ bớt dần những điều làm mình lo ra và chú tâm đến điều thuộc của Chúa.

 

A Focus Heart in a Midst of a Distracted World

Matthew 4:1-11

 

            Have you ever been distracted so much, that you missed your goal or a deadline? May be you are so distracted with the surrounding scenery or advertising boards, that you missed an exit or ran a red light? Don’t you know that the No. 1 cause of automobile accidents is not speeding, or DWI, but distractions due to talking, texting or eating while driving? Distractions can prevent us from reaching our goals, our dreams, to be what we want to be, or what we should be. This hi-tech demanding world today is full of electronic toys and technologies that make our life better, faster, more convenience, but also much more distractions. What about our spiritual life, are we distracting and NOT living as what we should be? What is our spiritual goal that we are distracted from? How can we avoid distractions, so that we can live a life that is pleasing to God? Let’s learn from Jesus Who had a focus heart of God’s will in the midst of the world full of distractions from the forces of the evil one.

 

            In Matthew 4:1-11 recorded that when Jesus begun His ministry to preach about the kingdom of God, He went up to the mountain for 40 days and nights fasting and praying.  When coming down of the mountain, Jesus was tempted (or got distracted) by satan three times, but Jesus did not lose His focus of His mission came from His Father, and not of Himself. Because God the Father loves this sinful world, He decided to save us, so He had to send His Son to come down to do this, so no one will perish. Jesus left His glory in heaven and came into this world not really to perform miracles, but to do His Father will, saving the world from the condemnation and eternal punishment of sins. God’s will was that Jesus had to die on the cross to redeem sinners back to God. Jesus’ focus was always at the cross and did not get distracted with all the “invitations” of power, fame, richness, and pleasures of this world. Do you think the evil one satan did not know this? How did satan try to tempt Jesus? First, after 40 days and nights on the mountain, Jesus was hungry; this was one of the important physical needs, and it was the best time for satan to tempt Jesus by challenging Him to turn rocks into bread. Could Jesus do that? Of course Jesus could, because He is God, the Creator of all things, but Jesus could not listen to satan, who was created by Him for a piece of bread; He came to this world to listen and do His Father’s will, and not just to satisfy His stomach. Satan today tempts us the same way through many channels of our physical needs, and the number bait is money. The power of money can change people heart from God to idols. Secondly, Satan tried to create doubt in Jesus’ heart about His Father’s will by challenging Jesus to throw Himself down and God’s angels would care for Him. If Jesus obeyed satan and threw Himself down, His mission would end right there because Jesus was in a human form at that time just like us; but He did not get distracted because the Son trusted the Father completely to come to this world to do His will. Satan is a crafty master of creating doubts in our heart and mind. In the garden, how did the snake create doubt in Eve’s heart by questioning her – “Are you sure that God said that “you shall not eat from any tree of the garden?” Today, the snake continues to do the same thing using the evidences of science, DNA, evolution… to question many people about their faith, creating doubts in our mind to question about the Word of God. Thirdly, Satan could not deter Jesus from His focus, so he then offered Jesus a shortcut of all of his power for a little worship. Satan tried to distract Jesus from His mission by deterring Him from God’s word, creating doubts, offering the world power; but Jesus kept His focus on the cross, on His Father’s will for Him.

 

            Are we drawn into a strong current of distractions from this world? How can I re-focus my goal and purpose? First, take time often each day to re-focus, asking we: Who am I? Why am I here? What is my life purpose? Whom am I living for? Secondly, be careful discerning and listening to God’s voice. There are so many noises in this world; do you recognize God’s voice? How many people can hear God’s call to mission fields, to serve the church or we come here but our mind is so cluttered with many things of this world? Thirdly, Guard your heart. Guarding your heart by guarding what you let to get through your eyes and enter the heart. In everything you do – keep asking: Are the things I am doing help or hurt my focus of the goal? If not, I should minimize it. And fourthly, learn to live a simple lifestyle so you can keep the priority to be first. You don’t have to have all what the world has; everything in this world will pass away, the only thing left is love: love for God and for others; worldly things should never be more important than relationships.

 

            I hope the sermon this morning help us to check ourselves and get rid all things that are distracting us from fulfilling the responsibility of Christian, godly parents, godly husbands and wives, godly children, godly citizens, godly workers, godly church members, and godly leaders?
