(Being Sanctified)

1 Têsalônica 4:3-5

 

“ý muốn Đức Chúa Trời, ấy là khiến anh em nên thánh: tức là phải lánh sự ô uế, 4 mỗi người phải biết giữ thân mình cho thánh sạch và tôn trọng, 5 chẳng bao giờ sa vào tình dục luông tuồng như người ngoại đạo, là kẻ không nhìn biết Đức Chúa Trời.”

(It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;)

 

 

I. The Terrible Times

 

> We are living in a time, that “evil things” can be called good, promoted, and supported in the name of charity and fairness; but the moral things are opposed, attacked, and mocked as old-fashioned. (C/ta đang sống trong thời điểm mà nhiều điều ác được coi là tốt lành, được cổ động và bảo vệ bởi những danh từ hay ho; nhưng một số những điều đạo đức thì bị chê cười, và chống đối.)

> We are living in a time that everything goes… as you please, “if it feels good then just do it, just quench your thirst!” (C/ta đang sống trong một thời điểm mà con người sống phóng túng, xả láng, luông tuồng tùy theo tư dục mình muốn – “Nếu xướng thì hãy làm ngay đi.”)

> This should be no surprised to us as Christians, because the apostle Paul once said in 2 Timothy 3:1-5a – “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power…” (Thật ra c/ta cũng không nên lấy làm lạ, vì sứ đồ Phaolô đã có lần nói trước – “Hãy biết rằng trong ngày sau rốt, sẽ có những thời kỳ khó khăn. 2 Vì người ta đều tư kỷ, tham tiền, khoe khoang, xấc xược, hay nói xấu, nghịch cha mẹ, bội bạc, không tin kính, 3 vô tình, khó hòa thuận, hay phao vu, không tiết độ, dữ tợn, thù người lành, 4 lường thầy phản bạn, hay nóng giận, lên mình kiêu ngạo, ưa thích sự vui chơi hơn là yêu mến Đức Chúa Trời, 5 bề ngoài giữ điều nhân đức, nhưng chối bỏ quyền phép của nhân đức đó.”)

> It is not easy to live godly and holy, according to God’s words in these last days, due to peer pressures from the world that become more intense every day. (Trong thời kỳ sau rốt này, sống thánh sạch tốt lành theo tiêu chuẩn của Chúa không phải là dễ dàng, bởi vì những áp lực luông tuồng của thế gian ảnh hưởng c/ta ngày càng mạnh hơn.)

# You have to make a choice all the times… either being a minority with God; or you follow the crowd and be accepted. (Nhiều khi c/ta phải chọn một là ở trong nhóm thiểu số với Chúa; hay là chạy theo đám đông để được chấp nhận và có được những quyền lợi cá nhân.)

 

> But I want to let you know that… even the world is changing before our eyes, God’s words do not; the reason is because God does not change. (Mặc dầu vậy tôi muốn nhắc cho quí vị biết rằng… tuy thế giới thay đổi trước mắt c/ta, nhưng lời của Chúa vẫn y nguyên; lý do là vì Đức Chúa Trời của c/ta không hề thay đổi.)

# Hebrews 13:8 said God in “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Đây có nghĩa là Đức Chúa Trời trong “Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ hôm qua, ngày nay, và cho đến đời đời không hề thay đổi.”)

> This means that His characters of all-knowing, all-powerful, all-present, self-sufficient, His holiness, mercy, compassionate, patience, faithful… do not change. (Đây có nghĩa là những thần tánh của Chúa như là quyền năng biết mọi điều, làm được mọi việc, luôn ở khắp nơi, thánh khiết vẹn toàn, nhơn từ, thành tín… không hề thay đổi.)

> His commandments do not change; neither His laws or His teachings. (Luật pháp và điều răn của Chúa cũng không thay đổi.)

 

> Sometimes, we feel God’s commandments are burdensome, but they are actually beneficial for us to maintain a safe, orderly, and blessed life. (Đôi khi c/ta tự nghĩ lời Chúa và điều răn của Ngài là một gánh nặng gò bó đời sống c/ta, nhưng thật sự luật pháp của Chúa giúp ích để c/ta hưởng một cuộc sống bình an, trật tự, và có phước hạnh.)

# Let’s just think if everybody keeps God’s 10 commandments, then would this world be a better place? No mor corruptions, cheating, crimes, murders and more peaceful and safe? 

 

 

II. Be Holy

 

> One of God’s commandments we read this morning is that we should live a sanctified or holy life in this dark world – “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified:” (Sáng nay c/ta đọc thấy một trong những điều răn quan trọng của Chúa “… ấy là khiến anh em nên thánh.”)

# The simple definition of the word “holy or sanctified” means to be separated from sin and set apart for God’s use. (Định nghĩa của chữ thánh khiết/thánh sạch nghĩa là được phân rẽ khỏi tội lỗi, biệt riêng ra cho Chúa xử dụng.)

 

> Why do we have to do this? (Tại sao c/ta phải sống một đời sống nên thánh?)

1) First, we must… because our God is holy. (Thứ nhất là bởi vì Chúa c/ta là Đấng Thánh.)

# 1 Peter 1:15-16 the apostle Peter said – “But just as He (God) who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (Sứ đồ Phiêrơ đã nói – “Nhưng, như Đấng gọi anh em là thánh, thì anh em cũng phải thánh trong mọi cách ăn ở mình, bởi có chép rằng: Hãy nên thánh, vì Ta là thánh.”)

 

2) Secondly, we must… because we are connected to God as His children, through His Son Jesus Christ. (Lý do thứ hai - vì c/ta có mối liên hệ là con cái của Đấng Thánh qua Cứu Chúa Giê-xu.)

# John 1:12-13 – “Yet to all who did receive Him (Jesus), to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (Trong Giăng 1, lời Chúa có chép – “Nhưng hễ ai đã nhận Ngài (Chúa Giê-xu), thì Ngài ban cho quyền phép trở nên con cái Đức Chúa Trời, là ban cho những kẻ tin danh Ngài, là kẻ chẳng phải sanh bởi khí huyết, hoặc bởi tình dục, hoặc bởi ý người, nhưng sanh bởi Đức Chúa Trời vậy.”)

# I am sure that you would be very happy and proud when your friends look at your children and say “Your sons and daughters look just like you,” and not saying “they look liked your neighbor?”

> Since Jesus comes into our heart, we are no longer pagans who do not know God, or orphans without a father; but we are the citizens of the kingdom of God, a people who has the eternal hope in heaven. (Từ khi Giê-xu vô lòng, c/ta không còn là những kẻ ngoại không nhìn biết Đức Chúa Trời nữa, không phải là những đứa mồ côi, nhưng là công dân nước trời, là những người có sự trông cậy đời đời của nước thiên đàng.)

> We are a part of Jesus’ body through the holy blood covenant; So, we must be living holy and pure in our thougths, words and conduct. (C/ta là những chi thể của thân thể thánh khiết của Chúa Giê-xu, bởi lời giao ước bằng huyết thánh của Ngài, thì c/ta phải sống thánh sạch.)

> The Bible declares that we are the new creation in Christ, the old has gone, the new is here; So, we must be continuously sanctified every day, to be more liked God’s holy Son. (Kinh Thánh chứng nhận c/ta là những tạo vật mới trong Đấng Christ, vậy thì những sự cũ phải bỏ đi, những sự mới phải đến; một đời sống nên thánh giống như Chúa phải bắt đầu.)

 

3) The third reason why we should live holy… because God through the Holy Spirit is living inside of us. (Lý do thứ ba, c/ta phải nên thánh là bởi vì Thánh Linh của Ngài đang sống trong c/ta.)

# 1 Corinthians 6:19 – “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;” (1 Côrinthô 6:19 – “Anh em há chẳng biết rằng thân thể mình là đền thờ của Đức Thánh Linh đang ngự trong anh em, là Đấng mà anh em đã nhận bởi Đức Chúa Trời, và anh em chẳng phải thuộc về chính mình sao?”)

> Have you invited a special & important guest to come and stay at your house? Would you spend a lot of time and effort to clean up your house?

# Bless my wife, because every time we have a speaker comes to our church, we host them; my wife has to clean up the house… put on new bed & pillow sheets, clean restroom and kitchen, clean dining area, clean our car to take them to places…

> So, if the Holy Spirit is more important, then should we do less to clean our heart for Him to reside? (Như vậy nếu Thánh Linh Chúa còn quan trọng hơn, thì chẳng lẽ c/ta không dọn lòng thật thánh sạch cho Ngài ngự trị sao?)

 

 

III. Avoid Sexual Immorality

 

1) How to do that in the midst of this pervert generation? (Làm sao c/ta sống thánh sạch ở giữa một thế giới đồi trụy và xa đọa này?)

> One of the answers from Paul is to avoid all kinds of sexual immorality – “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;” (Câu trả lời là c/ta phải tập… “lánh xa những sự ô uế, luông tuồng…”)

 

> What is the definition of sexual immorality sins? (Sự ô uế trong tình dục xấu xa nghĩa là gì?)

> We live in the time that there is no longer a distinction of this immorality sin; everybody can just live as they see fit to please their own desires. (Thế giới ngày nay không còn phân biệt hay nhận biết tội lỗi xấu xa này nữa; họ sống với tư tưởng - cứ sướng thì hãy làm để thoả mãn tư dục mình.)

# Tuần qua, một căp làm tình với nhau trong giữa một hội chợ tỉnh bơ, trước mặt mọi người?

> Sexual immorality is the sin related to sexual thoughts or activity that are performed outside of marriage, deviating from God’s laws and commandments. (Tội lỗi tình dục xấu xa luông tuồng là những ý tưởng hay hành động liên hệ tới tình dục ở ngoài phạm vi vợ chồng, đi lệch lạc khỏi đường lối của Chúa.)

# Sex itself is a good thing that God created in the beginning to join a male and a female in one flesh. (Tình dục nam nữ là điều tốt lành mà từ lúc ban đầu Chúa dùng để kết nối một người nam và một người nữ thành vợ chồng, trở nên một thịt.)

# It is a beautiful gift that God gives to husbands and wives, so they can express their love and delight toward one another in the most intimate way, that no other relationship has. (Tình dục chung chăn chung gối là một món quà quí gía Chúa ban cho tình vợ chồng, để 2 người bày tỏ sự yêu thương, gần gũi, thỏa mãn, mật thiết với nhau, mà không có mối liên hệ nào có như vậy.)

# It is an amazing way to fulfill God’s good will for human to be fruitful and increase in number; and fill the earth. (Tình dục là phương cách lạ lùng Chúa dùng để loài người có thể sanh sản ra nhiều, và đầy dẫy trên đất.)

> But sexuality outside the boundary of marriage is a terrible sin and will destroy our relationship with God, even our life and others. (Nhưng tình dục ở ngoài phạm vi vợ chồng là tội lỗi xấu xa, nó sẽ phá hủy mối liên hệ giữa c/ta với Chúa, phá hoại đời sống của mình và những người khác nữa.)

> Sexual sins not just destroying our body only, not as gluttony which can cause obesity, or heavy and uncontrolled drinking which damages your liver, but sexual immorality can destroy a soul, and hurt others as well. (Tội này không chỉ phá hoại thân thể mà thôi, như là tham ăn thì chỉ làm cho thân thể mình bị béo ù, hay uống rượu mạnh thì hại cho gan của mình, nhưng tội lỗi tình dục xấu xa sẽ làm hại đến linh hồn, phần tâm linh, và đời sống của mình và những người khác nữa.)

 

> Satan is the master of covering up the consequences of this sin, until it is full-grown, gives birth to death, destroying our relationship with God and with one another. (Ma quỉ thì rất khéo che đậy không cho c/ta thấy những hậu quả đau thương của tội lỗi này, cho đến khi c/ta bị xa vào bẫy của nó, làm tổn hại mối liên hệ giữa c/ta với Chúa và với những người xung quanh.)

# Satan does not want you to know that there are more than 30 different types of STD, sexual transmitted diseases, including the incurable AIDS due to uncontrolled and unnatural sexual immorality acts. In the United States, more than 65 million people are currently living with an incurable STD. Each year in US, one in four teens contracts an STD. (Ma quỉ không muốn cho c/ta biết về hơn 30 loại bịnh hoa liễu, kể cả bệnh AIDS bởi tình dục xấu xa và mất tự nhiên gây ra. Trong nước Mỹ ngày nay ước lượng 65 triệu người đang mắc phải một trong những bệnh hoa liễu không có cách chữa này. Mỗi năm sẽ có khoảng 1 trong 4 thanh niên bị mắc vào một căn bịnh này.) 

> Satan doesn’t want you to know that there are more than 1.1 million people in the U.S. (40 million throughout the world) are living with HIV today, and gay and bisexual men are most affected. (Ma quỉ không muốn cho bạn biết hiện nay có khoãng 1.1 triệu người ở Mỹ đang mang vi trùng HIV, và hầu hết là những người đồng tính luyến ái bị nhiều nhất.)

> He doesn’t want you to know the headaches and pains of so many broken homes, because of the sexual adultery sins in this generation. (Ma quỉ không muốn cho bạn biết những đau khổ, đổ vỡ, chia tay, li dị trong biết bao nhiêu những gia đình ngày nay vì tội tà dâm và ngoại tình.)

> Satan doesn’t want you to know how many babies lives, estimated about 1 million per year in US, are aborted (or we say murdered), most of abortion cases are the result of unwanted pregnancy due to casual sex outside marriage. (Ma quỉ không muốn cho bạn biết ở Mỹ mỗi năm có gần 1 triệu vụ phá thai và hầu hết lý do là vì nhiều người mang thai hoang, vì xa vào tình dục xấu xa.)

 

> Sexual immorality is not just a sin that disgraces God’s name, but it will also have greater damaged effect on your reputation, your mind, your spirit, your soul, and others, and gives you a guilty, depressed and broken heart life. (Tội lỗi tình dục xấu xa không chỉ làm xấu hổ danh Chúa thôi; nó còn sẽ làm tổn thương tiếng tăm của một người, xáo trộn lòng, tâm linh, cuộc sống của bạn và những người khác; nó sẽ để lại cho bạn một đời sống khổ tâm, chán nản, ngã lòng, và xấu hổ.)

 

2) So how can we avoid this sexual immorality sin? (Làm sao c/ta tránh khỏi tội lỗi xấu xa này để sống thánh khiết đẹp lòng Chúa đây?)

> v. 4 teaches us to learn self-control. (c. 4 có chép – “phải tập giữ thân mình,” phải có tiết độ.)

# In Proverbs 25:18 gives a picture of a life without self-control as – “A person without self-control is like a city whose walls are broken through.” (Trong Châm Ngôn 25 cho c/ta thấy một đời sống không có sự tiết độ giống như gì? “Người nào chẳng chế trị lòng mình, Khác nào một cái thành hư nát, không có vách ngăn.”)

> How important are the walls of a city to protect people inside it? (Bức tường thành quan trọng như thế nào để giữ gìn mọi người trong thành được an toàn?)

> Self-control is compared as strong and tall “spiritual walls” that can help to protect us from the sexual immorality sins. (Sự chế trị lòng, kỷ luật tâm linh, đời sống có sự tiết độ là những bức tường thành cao và vững chắc để giúp c/ta giữ thân mình lánh khỏi tội lỗi tình dục luông tuồng xấu xa.)

 

a) We must learn self-control… because it is not naturally or automatically for our flesh to do this. (C/ta phải tập giữ thân mình, vì điều tự nhiên tư dục xác thịt thì không có muốn làm điều này.)

> Our flesh nature always desires sexuality, most of the time in an uncontrolled & ungodly manner. (Ngược lại, xác thịt của c/ta thì lại ham thích đeo đuổi, làm thỏa mãn những tư dục xấu xa tối đa.)

> At the same time, satan always entices us with all kinds of sexual temptations through lustful images, sexual appealing music, video, movies, and full of fantasy thoughts. (Cùng một lúc ma quỉ thì luôn dụ dỗ c/ta với đủ loại mồi cám dỗ qua những hình ảnh ô dâm, những bài nhạc, cuộn phim quyền rũ c/ta bước vào tình dục, hay những tư tưởng thèm khát dục vọng xấu xa ở ngoài ý Chúa.)

# Don’t you know that pornographic on the Internet is a big business, estimated income of 15 billion dollars/year, more than McDonald and almost equal to Walmart. (Quí vị có biết tài liệu phát hành những Internet websites chứa hình ảnh ô dâm là một việc kinh doanh rất là nhiều tiền không?)

> Statistics show that approximately 40 million people in the United States are sexually involved with the internet Porn, not to mention TV cables and adult movies. For every 10 men in church, 5 are struggling with pornography. (40 Triệu người đang bị lôi kéo vào những trang websites này.)

# Statistics show 60% of college kids now don’t think that viewing porn images has anything wrong.

 

b) We must learn self-control by not putting our body in situations that we cannot overcome this sin. (C/ta phải tập sự tiết độ nghĩa là đừng để thân thể mình gần với những nguồn lực lôi kéo c/ta vào tội này mà không có lối thoát ra được.)

> One of the ways we can exercise self-control is by getting away from whatever tempts us to indulge our desires. (Một trong những cách hay nhất để giữ mình đó là phải biết tránh xa tất cả những nguồn lực ma quỉ cám dỗ dục vọng xác thịt của mình.)

# Romans 13:14 – “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.” (Trong Rôma 13:14 – “nhưng hãy mặc lấy Chúa Giê-xu Cơ Đốc; đừng nghĩ đến cách làm thỏa mãn các dục vọng của xác thịt.”)

# An alcoholic person cannot stand in front of a bar and say: “Lord Jesus! Help me.”  

# You cannot stay in a locked room late at night alone by yourself with your computer open widely to all kinds of porn sites, or “R” rates movie, and say: “Lord Jesus! Save me.”

# You cannot avoid the sexual immorality sin, if you go to date first time alone with someone, wearing inappropriate clothing, so you can look “hot,” and pray “Lord Jesus! Protect me from all evils?” (You are playing around with the devils?)

> How many of young people pray before going on a date and while on date together? (Có bao nhiêu con cái Chúa đi hẹn hò với nhau mà trước hết cầu nguyện và nhờ một người khác cầu nguyện cho mình?)

 

> We must train ourselves to recognize the sources of temptations and run away from them ASAP. (C/ta phải tập nhận diện ra những nguồn lực của sự cám dỗ và chạy xa nó ngay.)

# In one interview of an athlete who was training for competing in Olympic, they asked him: “What is the most difficult thing for you in training?” (Có lần kia một lực sĩ Mỹ đang huấn luyện để chạy đua trong thế vận hội và người ta hỏi anh: “Điều gì khó nhất?”)

> He said: “The most difficult thing is when I come home every day from practice, passing by the Burger King, and saw a delicious picture of a Whopper; I have to discipline myself to turn away and speed up to pass it quickly.” (Điều khó nhất là mỗi khi tập xong lái xe về nhà, chạy xe qua tiệm Burger King, thấy tấm hình hấp dẫn của bánh burger Whopper, thì tôi phải luyện mình quay mặt qua chỗ khác, còn chân thì nhấn gas lên để tiến nhanh qua khỏi chỗ đó.)

 

# In 2 Timothy 2:22, Paul instructed young people to flee from temptations – “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” (Chính Phaolô đã nói cùng Timôthê – “hãy tránh (chạy xa) khỏi tình dục trai trẻ, mà tìm những điều công bình, đức tin, yêu thương, hòa thuận với kẻ lấy lòng tinh sạch kêu cầu Chúa.”)

> Don’t you know that the best kungfu is to run away? Do not turn around and take the “2nd look.” (Bạn có biết võ an toàn nhất là “võ chạy” không? Đừng cố quay lại nhìn một lần nữa.)

# In Genesis 39 - Joseph ran away, even left his coat and ran out of the house, from the wife of his master, Potiphar, that was wanting to commit an adultery sin. (Trong Sáng Thế Ký 39 – anh Giôsép đã bỏ chạy đến nỗi bị tuột áo khỏi bà chủ Phôtipha đã muốn dụ dỗ mình ngủ cùng người – “Một ngày kia, Giô-sép vào nhà đặng làm công việc; vả, chẳng có người nhà nào ở đó, 12 thì người bèn nắm áo chàng mà rằng: Hãy nằm cùng ta! Nhưng chàng liền tuột áo để lại trong tay người mà chạy trốn ra ngoài.”)

# Jesus is serious about “fleeing from temptations” when He said: “If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” (“Vậy nếu con mắt bên hữu xui cho ngươi phạm tội, thì hãy móc mà quăng nó cho xa ngươi đi; vì thà chịu một phần thân thể ngươi phải hư, còn hơn là cả thân thể bị ném vào địa ngục.”)

 

c) We must learn self-control by disciplining ourselves with Bible readings. (C/ta phải tập tiếp độ trong sự học Kinh Thánh mỗi ngày.)

> God’s word is the food for our new nature, to make it stronger than the flesh, and that is the key for us to overcome the sexual immorality sins. (Lời Chúa là thức ăn cho con người thuộc linh để nó mạnh mẽ hơn con người xác thịt, thì c/ta mới lánh được những sự ô uế.)

# In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – what is the purpose of the Bible – God’s words? “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (Trong 2 Timôthê 3 chép gì về ích lợi của lời Chúa? “Cả Kinh Thánh đều là bởi Đức Chúa Trời soi dẫn, có ích cho sự dạy dỗ, bẻ trách, sửa trị, dạy người trong sự công bình, 17 hầu cho người thuộc về Đức Chúa Trời được trọn vẹn và sắm sẵn để làm mọi việc lành.”)

> Its purposes are to help us recognizing the temptation sources so we can avoid, correcting our paths to escape them, but walking in the righteousness of God. (Mục đích của lời Chúa sẽ gíup c/ta nhận diện ra những nguồn lực của sự cám dỗ tình dục xấu xa, điều chỉnh mà thoát khỏi những bẫy của nó, và bước đi trọn vẹn trong con đường công bình của Đức Chúa Trời.)

# It helps us to have a clear distinction between the correct way of “abstinence, keeping your life pure” and not “safe sex” through all kinds of birth controls & other methods. (Lời Chúa giúp cho c/ta nhận biết rõ con đường chánh đáng là “kiêng giữ thân thể mình thánh sạch” cho đến ngày cưới, hơn là tìm những phương cách của đời này để làm sao bước vào tình dục xấu xa mà được an toàn.)

 

> Do you remember in Ephesians 6 – one of our spiritual weapons to stand against satan is: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God… 17 … and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Quí vị còn nhớ trong Êphêsô có nói đến những vũ khí thuộc linh để địch lại cùng ma quỉ là gì không? “Vậy nên, hãy lấy mọi khí giới của Đức Chúa Trời, hầu cho trong ngày khốn nạn, anh em có thể cự địch lại và khi thắng hơn mọi sự rồi, anh em được đứng vững vàng... và cầm gươm của Đức Thánh Linh, là lời Đức Chúa Trời.)

# In Matthew 4 recorded Jesus was tempted 3 times after coming down from the mountain, but He did not yield to satan - why? (Trong Mathiơ 4 có chép, Chúa Giê-xu bị ma quỉ cám dỗ 3 lần sau khi xuống núi, nhưng Ngài đã không xa vào đó - Tại sao?)

> All 3 times Jesus used the sword of God’s word by saying – “It is written…” to overcome satan’s temptations. (Cả 3 lần Chúa đều dùng gươm của Thánh Linh mà chống cự lại, bắt đầu bằng những chữ như sau: “Có lời chép rằng…”)

# A story about a young Christian girl went on a date first time and her handsome boyfriend who was about to lure her into sexual sin.

> She said to the young man: “Please stop, then she pulled out a Bible and begun to read, just read and read.”

> After few minutes listening to her reading Bible says, her boyfriend said: “Let’s go home! It is boring.” And they got home, the next day she dumped the boy! Amen!

> Do you have a small Bible in your purses? (Các bạn có cuốn Kinh Thánh gần mình không?)

# Just read, read and read. Use your spiritual weapons which is the sword of the Spirit. (Hãy cứ đọc lời Chúa, vì đó là gươm của Thánh Linh để c/ta địch lại cùng ma quỉ và mọi cám dỗ của nó.)

# Because “pepper” sprays do not work well! (Đồ xịt cay mắt không có còn hữu dụng nữa đâu, khi tư dục của bạn đã bị lôi kéo, bị mù quáng và bị điều khiển rồi.)

 

d) We must learn self-discipline by praying always to avoid sexual immorality sins. (C/ta phải tập tiết độ trong sự cầu nguyện để khỏi xa chước vào những cám dỗ này.)

# 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “Never stop praying.” (Hãy “cầu nguyện không thôi,”)

> Young people - in everything, practice to pray “WWJD?” (Những người trẻ tuổi phải luôn cầu nguyện “WWJD,” nghĩa là luôn tự hỏi “Nếu là Chúa Giê-xu thì sao?”)

 

# My favorite hero of faith in the Old Testament is Daniel. (Một trong những người anh hùng đức tin trong Kinh Thánh Cựu Ước tôi thích nhất là tiên tri Đaniên.)

> In Daniel 6 – Daniel faced a tough decision: to bow down to the king Darius only or the lion den? (Trong sách Đaniên 6 có chép anh phải đối diện với một sự quyết định quan trọng, một là cúi đầu thờ lạy vua Đariút, hay là đi thăm hang sư tử?)

> But Daniel did not hesitate to obey God – where the power came from? (Nhưng Đaniên không ngần ngại vâng theo điều răn của Đức Chúa Trời mà không làm. Ở đâu Đaniên có sức mạnh vậy?)

# Daniel 6:10 – “Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” (“Các quan thượng thơ và trấn thủ đó bèn vào chầu vua và tâu rằng: Hỡi vua Đa-ri-út, chúc vua sống đời đời! 7 Hết thảy các quan thượng thơ trong nước, các quan lãnh binh, các quan trấn thủ, các nghị viên và các đại thần đều đồng tình xin vua ra chỉ dụ, lập một cấm lịnh nghiêm nhặt trong ba mươi ngày, hễ ai cầu xin thần nào hay một người nào ngoài vua, thì, hỡi vua, kẻ ấy sẽ phải quăng vào hang sư tử… 10 Khi Đa-ni-ên nghe rằng chỉ dụ đó đã ký tên rồi, thì về nhà mình (những cửa sổ của phòng người thì mở về hướng Giê-ru-sa-lem). > The power to overcome temptations is at the “knee level,” not air-head. (C/ta phải hiểu sức năng thắng cám dỗ là ở “đầu gối” phía dưới, chứ không phải sự hiểu biết trong đầu óc ở phía trên.)

> When we deal with temptations, it’s not a matter of how big your muscles are, how much you know about the Bible, but how strong your “knees” are, meaning a lifestyle of prayer. (Khi đối diện với cám dỗ, điều quan trọng không phải là những bắp thịt của bạn lớn cỡ nào, sự hiểu biết lời của Chúa là bao nhiêu, nhưng là đầu gối bạn chai lì đến mức nào, nghĩa là một đời sống cầu nguyện luôn.)

> Jesus clearly taught the principle to overcome temptations in Matthew 26:41 – "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." (Và chính Chúa đã dạy dỗ bí quyết hay nhất để thắng mọi cám dỗ, nhất là tội tình dục xấu xa ấy là – “Hãy thức canh và cầu nguyện, kẻo các ngươi sa vào chước cám dỗ; tâm thần thì muốn lắm, mà xác thịt thì yếu đuối.”) 

 

> We must learn to yield our body to the Holy Spirit control through prayer. (C/ta phải tập luôn nhường cho Chúa Thánh Linh làm Chủ đời sống và thân thể mình.)

> We cannot overcome our enemies by our own will power, because they are stronger than us. (C/ta không thể thắng kẻ thù mình, vì ma quỉ được dựng nên mạnh mẽ và khôn ngoan hơn loài người.)

> You cannot stop the “hurricanes” of sexual lusts and fantasy thoughts, you need God’s power. (C/a không thể nào thắng được những tư tưởng, lôi kéo, quyến rũ của tình dục xấu xa, giống như những cơn giông tố kéo đến, nếu không nhờ cậy quyền năng của Chúa.)

> We must learn self-control by starting every day with Matthew 6:13 – “And (may the Holy Spirit) lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” (C/ta phải tập tiết độ, giữ mình bằng cách bắt đầu mỗi ngày cầu xin Thánh Linh – “Xin chớ để chúng con bị cám dỗ, mà cứu chúng con khỏi mọi điều ác!”)

> Practice “self-control” will make you stronger and stronger each day to avoid sexual immorality, until a day that the devil will leave you alone. (Phải tập tiết độ để con người thuộc linh của mình trở nên mạnh mẽ hơn mà tránh tình dục xấu xa, đến một ngày ma quỉ bèn phải bỏ c/ta mà đi tìm người khác.)

# The roaring lion realizes that “your meat” looks so tough, that it’s not worth going for a kill.

> We must practice self-control to stay pure before God by avoiding sexual immorality sins. (C/ta phải tập tiết độ, giữ thân thể mình cho thánh sạch bằng cách tránh xa những tội lỗi tình dục luông tuồng và xấu xa.)

> Don’t listen to movies, medias, TV Soap operas, lustful music and images – they just lie to you. (Đừng nghe theo dư luận, những bài nhạc hay phim ảnh dẫn dụ vào tình dục xấu xa – đây chỉ là những lời dối trá, che đậy của ma quỉ mà thôi.)

# You see - no young teen-girl wants to get unwanted pregnant, then do abortion; no one wants to become a drug addict, and get arrested; nobody plan to be stucked in jail for the rest of his life; But the problem is how many of us live everyday plan NOT to get in these troubles, by practicing self-control on their own bodies, may I say - “keeping their hands to themselves”?

# There are many scars that cannot be erased in life; Of course, God forgive us when we honestly come and confess our sins to God, place our broken heart at the feet of the cross, the wound is healed but the scars do not go away; and the devils do not want you to know that. (Có những vết sẹo sẽ không biến mất đâu; Đương nhiên khi c/ta thành thật ăn năn đến xưng tội với Chúa; Ngài tha thứ c/ta, nhưng vết sẹo sẽ vẫn còn, và đó là điều ma quỉ không muốn cho c/ta hiểu điều đó.)

> God loves us and gives us His commandments about purity for our own good and protection – free from diseases, and to experience true freedom. (Chúa yêu thương c/ta; Ngài ban cho những điều răn để hướng dẫn c/ta sống thánh sạch, tốt lành, tránh khỏi nhiều bệnh tật, đau thương; nhưng kinh nghiệm một đời sống bình và tự do thật.)

> Just lean on the Holy Spirit to learn how to control our own body in a way that is holy, honorable, and pleasing God. (Hãy cứ nương cậy nơi Thánh Linh Chúa giúp c/ta tập sự tiết độ, gìn giữ thân thể mình cho thánh sạch, sống làm đẹp lòng Đức Chúa Trời.) Amen!

> God’s will for you is to live a holy lifestyle by avoiding the sexual immorality sins.

> Our body, in a covenant relation to God, becomes His holy temple - where His Holy Spirit lives.

> God wants us to live a life free from diseases, heaches, pains, and guilt.

> How? The answer is to avoid this kind of sexual immorality sin.

> How to do that?

> Practice self-control of your own body.

> Practice self-discipline in Bible readings and prayer.

> Practice in recognizing and getting away from all sources of sexual temptations.

> Practice to depend on Jesus every moments of your days.

# Only Jesus Christ can quench that thirst of the flesh desires and lust which war against your soul.

 

> When “the rubber meets the road” from Monday through Saturday, are we living a holy life pleasing to the Lord?

# What kind of music we listen to? What kind of TV shows, movies or Internet websites we are viewing? What kind of video games we are playing? Where do we go? Who do we chit/chat or post pictures on Facebook? Who are we dating? Do we have time for devotion to pray and to read the Bible daily?

# Are we living carelessly or caustiously with self-control?

 

> Teens and young people – I invite you to make a pledge today to live a sanctified life of “True love Waits,” to stay pure until marriage, no matter what the world says.

> Why wait? Because it is true love. 

> The most wonderful gift you would ever give to your future mate on the day of marriage is your purity.

> Come to Jesus and make the pledge today.

# "Believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my future mate and my future children to be sexually abstinent from this day, until the day I enter a biblical marriage relationship. In addition, I commit to abstain from sexual thoughts, sexual touching, pornography, and actions that are known to lead to sexual arousal.”

 

Being Sanctified

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

 

“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;”

 

We are living in a time, that “evil things” can be called good, and promoted in the name of charity; but the moral things are opposed, attacked, and mocked.

We are living in a time that everything goes… as “if it feels good then just do it, just quench your thirst!”

It is not easy to live godly and holy in these last days, due to peer pressures from the world that become more intense.

You have to make a choice all the times… either being a minority with God; or you follow the crowd and be accepted.

Even the world is changing before our eyes, God’s words do not; the reason is because God does not change.

This means that His characters do not change; His commandments do not change; neither His laws or His teachings.

One of God’s commandments is that we should live a sanctified or holy life in this dark world.

The simple definition of the word “holy” means to be separated from sin and set apart for God’s use.

Why do we have to do this?

First, we must… because our God is holy.

Secondly, we must… because we are connected to God as His children, through His Son Jesus Christ.

We are a part of Jesus’ body through the holy blood covenant; So, we must be living holy and pure in our thougths, words and conduct.

The Bible declares that we are the new creation in Christ, the old has gone, the new is here; So, we must be continuously sanctified every day, to be more liked God’s holy Son.

Thirdly, we should live holy… because God through the Holy Spirit is living inside of us.

How to do that in the midst of this pervert generation

One of the answers from Paul is to avoid all kinds of sexual immorality.

What is the definition of sexual immorality sins?

Sexual immorality is the sin related to sexual thoughts or activity that are performed outside of marriage, deviating from God’s laws and commandments.

Sex itself is a good thing that God created in the beginning to join a male and a female in one flesh.

It is a beautiful gift that God gives to husbands and wives, so they can express their love and delight toward one another in the most intimate way, that no other relationship has.

It is an amazing way to fulfill God’s good will for human to be fruitful and increase in number; and fill the earth.

But sexuality outside the boundary of marriage is a terrible sin and will destroy our relationship with God, even our life and others.

Satan is the master of covering up the consequences of this sin, until it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Sexual immorality is not just a sin that disgraces God’s name, but it will also have greater damaged effect on your reputation, your mind, your spirit, your soul, and others, and gives you a guilty, depressed and broken heart life.

So how can we avoid this sexual immorality sin?

v. 4 teaches us to learn self-control.

We must learn… because it is not naturally or automatically for our flesh to do this.

We must learn self-control by not putting our body in situations that we cannot overcome this sin.

We must train ourselves to recognize the sources of temptations and run away from them ASAP.

In 2 Timothy 2:22, Paul instructed young people to flee from temptations.

Don’t you know that the best kungfu is to run away?

We must learn self-control by disciplining ourselves with Bible readings.

God’s word is the food for our new nature, to make it stronger than the flesh, and that is the key for us to overcome the sexual immorality sins.

Do you remember in Ephesians 6 – one of our spiritual weapons to stand against satan is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

We must learn to pray always to avoid sexual immorality sins.
