Người Xác Thịt Hay Người Thiêng Liêng?
Following the Desires of the Flesh or Controlled by the Spirit?
(1 Côrinhtô 2:14-16)
“Vả, người có tánh xác thịt không nhận được những sự thuộc về Thánh Linh của Đức Chúa Trời; bởi chưng người đó coi sự ấy như là sự dồ dại, và không có thể hiểu được, vì phải xem xét cách thiêng liêng. 15 Nhưng người có tánh thiêng liêng xử đoán mọi sự, và chính mình không bị ai xử đoán. 16 Vì ai đã biết ý Chúa, đặng dạy dỗ Ngài? Nhưng phần chúng ta, thì có ý của Đấng Christ.”
(The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.)
> Living in a money-oriented, luxurious and comfortable world liked in America, our life is so much depended, often be subjected to what other people say about us… from the way we wear our clothes, what kind of cars we drive, how many digits we have on our salaries, how many TV channels we have, to what titles we want people to call us… in order to be accepted. (Sống trong một quốc gia giàu có, và phóng túng như nước Hoakỳ, hình như cuộc sống của c/ta bị lệ thuợc rất nhiều vào những định kiến của những người xung quang nói gì về mình… từ cách c/ta ăn mặc, đến loại xe c/ta lái, số lương của mình cao bao nhiêu, những danh xưng gì mình đang có… để được chấp nhận?)
# A story of a man who was mentally ill. He was living in fear, because in his mind… he kept thinking he was a “worm,” and people in the world around him were “chicken” that always wanted to eat him. So, he went to a hospital for few months to be treated of this mental disease and it was successfully; He was no longer believed that he was a worm. The hospital staffs were happy for him.
> Well, the day he went out of the hospital to go home, few minutes later he ran back in the hospital and screamed out: “I know that I am not a worm; but the people out there do not know that, and they have not been taught that they are NOT chicken to eat worms any more.”
# I don’t mean to say that people’s comments, opinions, and remarks are not important; but I think that we sometimes over-depended on what the world views us; we let the world defines how we should live… to be the “norms.” (Tôi không có nghĩa là những sự nhận xét của những người khác không quan trọng, nhưng thiết nghĩ nhiều lúc mình sống quá lệ thuộc vào những lời phê bình của họ, phải sống như thế nào mới là đúng kiểu cách.)
> We have allowed the world to drive our life to the point that we don’t even know who we are in Christ anymore.” (C/ta vô tình cho phép thế gian ảnh hưởng c/ta phải sống xu hướng theo đường lối của nó, mà quên đi mình là ai trong Cứu Chúa Giê-su.)
> Do you know that you are created as new creations “in Christ - The old has gone, the new is here!” according to 2 Corinthians 5:17? (Quí vị có biết c/ta “là những người đang được dựng nên mới; những sự cũ đã qua đi, nầy mọi sự đều trở nên mới” không?)
> Don’t you know that God has purchased us with a great price, by sacrificing His Son on the cross, and that’s not all, He regenerates us daily from dead to life, from old to newness… by the power of His Spirit? (Quí vị có biết là Chúa đã trả một gía rất đắt để mua chuộc c/ta, bằng sự hy sinh của chính Con Ngài trên thập tự gía; hơn nữa, Ngài biến đổi mỗi người c/ta hằng ngày… từ chỗ chết đến sự sống mới, từ sự cũ đến một lối sống mới… bởi quyền năng của Thần Linh Chúa không?)
I. The Old-self of Flesh
> We should no longer live and be dominated by the old man of flesh anymore. (C/ta không thể nào cứ còn sống bị thống trị bởi con người cũ của xác thịt nữa.)
# In Ephesians 2:2-3 Paul reminded us about our old and past lifestyle – “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts...” (Trong Êphêsô 2:3, sứ đồ Phaolô nhắc nhở c/ta về cuộc sống cũ – “Chúng ta hết thảy cũng đều ở trong số ấy, trước kia sống theo tư dục xác thịt mình, làm trọn các sự ham mê của xác thịt…”
> We “used to live… at one time,” were dead and rotten, craving only for the desires of the flesh. (“Trước kia” c/ta sống trong sự sa đọa, tồi bại… chỉ thèm khát, làm thỏa mãn những tư dục của xác thịt ham muốn mà thôi.)
a) Romans 8:5a Paul explained… why we used to crave for those things? “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires;” (Trong Rôma 8:5a, sứ đồ Phaolô giải thích tại sao trước kia c/ta hay đeo đuổi những điều tồi bại của xác thịt ham muốn? “Thật thế, kẻ sống theo xác thịt thì (tâm trí) chăm những sự thuộc về xác thịt;”)
> The mind controls what desires in the heart and produces actions… either bad or good. (Tâm trí điều khiển thân thể sống theo những gì chứa trong tấm lòng bên trong của c/ta, sanh ra những hành động bên ngoài, dù xấu hay tốt.)
> For that reason, in Matthew 15:18-19 - Jesus taught as an evil heart yields what? – “But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.” (Vì vậy mà chính Chúa Giê-su đã dậy một tấm lòng xấu xa bên trong… thì sanh điều gì bên ngoài? “Song những điều bởi miệng mà ra là từ trong lòng, thì những điều đó làm dơ dáy người. 19 Vì nơi lòng mà ra những ác tưởng, những tội giết người, tà dâm, dâm dục, trộm cướp, làm chứng dối, và lộng ngôn.”)
b) In Galatians 5:19-21 Paul gave a list of things that our old-self of flesh used to gratify for - “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.” (Trong Galati 5:19-21, sứ đồ Phaolô liệt kê một số những điều tự dục xác thịt đeo đuổi, tìm cầu – “Vả, các việc làm của xác thịt là rõ ràng lắm: ấy là gian dâm, ô uế, luông tuồng, 20 thờ hình tượng, phù phép, thù oán, tranh đấu, ghen ghét, buồn giận, cãi lẫy, bất bình, bè đảng, 21 ganh gổ, say sưa, mê ăn uống, cùng các sự khác giống như vậy...”)
> The flesh only knows and pursues the temporary things, that its eyes can see, as said in 1 John 2:16 – “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life…” (Tư dục xác thịt chỉ chăm và đeo đuổi những điều có gía trị tạm bợ, mê tham, những gì mắt chỉ thấy mà thôi.)
a) I drive on Jefferson highway near my house… and saw a big sign saying - “Open on Sunday.”
> Working 6 days a week is not enough; some people still don’t want to waste one day of rest to make “more and more” money.
b) One time I visited a family that used only styrofoam plates and plastics tensils – why so many boxes? The head of the house told me – “Reason with me, MS – if I can save time of washing dishes to work extra hours, open the shop longer, and make more money – wouldn’t that make sense to you?”
> Their life is only focused around making MORE money – that’s all they know, and enjoying life pleasures to the maximum: Friday night happy hours, Saturday afternoon and evening are “game on and Korean movies,” early Sunday is for fishing, and Monday going to work and rest. (Cuộc sống của họ chỉ biết việc “hái thật nhiều tiền,” và hưởng thụ tối đa: Nào là chè chén ăn nhậu chiều thứ Sáu, coi những trận đấu thể thao suốt ngày thứ Bảy, còn tối thì luyện phim chưởng, sáng sớm Chúa Nhật thức dậy là đi câu cá, rồi thứ Hai thức dậy mệt mỏi đi làm để thân xác được nghỉ ngơi.)
> Their life principle is - “If it feels good, do it! Satisfy your thirst!” (Đường lối sống của họ là “Nếu điều gì làm mình sung sướng, thoải mái, thêm giàu sang, quyền thế… thì cứ làm.)
c) In 1 Corinthians 2:14 – Because the old-self sets its minds on the fleshly desires; it cannot understand the spiritual things, but all is foolish – “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” (Trong 1 Côrinhtô 2:14 giải thích, vì con người cũ chỉ chăm những điều xác thịt ham muốn, cho nên nó không thể hiểu những điều thiêng liêng mầu nhiệm – “Vả, người có tánh xác thịt không nhận được những sự thuộc về Thánh Linh của Đức Chúa Trời; bởi chưng người đó coi sự ấy như là sự dồ dại, và không có thể hiểu được, vì phải xem xét cách thiêng liêng.”)
i) There is no way the old-self could understand that one man died on the cross can save the whole wide world? They cannot accept that Jesus, a Jewish man is the only way to heaven? (Con người cũ không thể nào hiểu sự mầu nhiệm… bởi chỉ một người chết trên cây thập tự mà có thể cứu được cả thế giới vào nước thiên đàng được ư?)
# 1 Corinthians 1:18 – “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing…” (Rõ ràng trong 1 Côrinhtô 1:18, Phaolô nói – “Bởi vì lời giảng về thập tự giá, thì những người hư mất (sống theo xác thịt) cho là điên dại;” Người thuộc thế gian sẽ không thể hiểu được những điều thiêng liêng, như là “thập tự gía” là sự khôn ngoan của Đức Chúa Trời, để giải thoát nhân loại ra khỏi sự đoán phạt của tội lỗi; Nhưng họ coi thập tự như là đồ dại, một sự xấu hổ thôi.)
ii) They cannot understand the principle - it is “more blessed to give than to receive,” as taught by Jesus in Acts 20:35; because this is contradicting to the worldly principle of “me, mine, and myself?” (Họ không thể hiểu nguyên tắc sống – “Ai ban cho có phước hơn là nhận lãnh,” mà Chúa Giê-su đã dạy dỗ, vì điều này đi nghịch với cá tánh tự nhiên của người đời, cái gì cũng phải là “cho tôi trước tiên.”)
# Story of a teacher who was teaching her children in a Sunday school about the good Samaritan parable of Jesus – so, what have you learned? A child answered – This parable teaches that “Every time I get in trouble – God always sends someone (a good Samaritan) to rescue me!
# A survey determines that the next generation Y is very smart and intelligent with hi-tech Internet, Ipad, cell phones, Virtual reality toygame, Google Alexes, but also a very self-focused and selfish generation, because they have everything they want and the maximum freedom they enjoy.
iii) Those who live by the desires of the flesh have no idea of the promise about the eternal life or concept of heaven beyond this short life: They just live for today and die tomorrow without a hope of living again. (Họ sống KHÔNG suy nghĩ gì về lời hứa của sự sống đời đời, có sự trông cậy của nước thiên đàng, nhưng chỉ sống cho những giá trị tạm bợ của hôm nay, và rối chết ngày mai.)
d) More than that, those that set their minds on the flesh often speak against God and His truths. (Hơn nữa, những ai sống chỉ chăm những điều của xác thịt thì hay chống nghịch lại những điều thiêng liêng thuộc của Chúa, khinh dể quyền phép rất cao và nói hỗn các đấng tôn trọng. Người thế gian luôn chống cự lại những điều dạy dỗ trong lời Chúa dạy, vì đi ngược với bản tánh xác thịt của mình muốn.)
# Romans 8:7 – “The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.” (Trong Rôma 8:7 – Phaolô dạy thêm – “vì sự chăm về xác thịt nghịch với Đức Chúa Trời, bởi nó không phục dưới luật pháp Đức Chúa Trời, lại cũng không thể phục được.”)
> The basic reason why they hostile to God because His truths reveal the dark side and the judgment of the works of the flesh. (Lý do là vì những điều thiêng liêng trong lẽ thật của Chúa phơi bày, vạch ra sự tối tăm, xấu xa, và hậu quả hư mất của những việc làm theo tư dục xác thịt.)
> How do you stop a conversation among the crowd today?
# Try this - start speaking about Jesus – everyone seems to feel un-comfortable, some people began to be silent and start leaving!
# One time, I was invited to say a blessing prayer ending a graduation ceremony of a small community college. I ended my prayer clearly with “In the name of Jesus Christ,” (not just a generic name of God.) Since then, they have not invited me back?
> Do you observe and read the News today? (Bạn có hay xem tin tức mỗi ngày không?.)
# Saturday night shows often blaspheme God’s names. Mock and say where is God, and if there is a hell, I want to be there. (Từ những chương trình hài kịch tối thứ Bảy, người ta lăng mạ danh Chúa, chế giễu - nếu có địa ngục thì tôi muốn được đến sống ở đó?)
# One time I saw a Christmas manger decoration that had 2 women in it? (Có lần tôi thấy có người trưng bày một hang đá Giáng Sinh có 2 người phụ nữ ở trong đó, nhưng không có Giôsép.)
> They want to destroy everything… that has anything to do with God. (Họ muốn phá hủy tất cả những gì có liên hệ đến Chúa.)
# Like the incident happened in Colorado state of a gay couple suing a Christian bakery; and we know that it is not about the cake, but the faith principle of Christians that opposes to their lifestyle.
> Why didn’t they come to a Jewish meat shop and demand to buy “pork” sausages and sue them?
e) Paul reminded a sure destination of those who live for the desires of the flesh is death and perish, in Romans 7:5 – “For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death.” (Sứ đồ Phaolô nhắc về định mệnh rõ ràng của những ai chỉ chăm những điều của xác thịt, đó là sự chết – “Vì khi chúng ta còn sống theo xác thịt, thì các tình dục xấu xa bị luật pháp xui khiến, hành động trong chi thể chúng ta và kết quả cho sự chết.” Định mệnh của họ chỉ là chỗ hư mất tối tăm đời đời.)
# A lot of the movies and TV shows today are about “zombies,” but spiritually, there are “zombies” who are walking everywhere, if they are not regenerated by God’s Spirit. (Có nhiều những cuộn phim ảnh ngày nay không có thật, chiếu về “zombies,” nghĩa là những người chết mục nát, nhưng vẫn còn đi đứng được; nhưng theo phương diện thuộc linh, cũng đang có biết bao nhiêu người chết đã định sẵn cho họ rồi, đang đi lại trong vòng c/ta, nếu họ không được đổi mới bởi Thánh Linh.)
II. The New Man
> But WE are now washed by the blood of the Lamb, become new creations in Christ Jesus, are regenerating everyday by the power of the Holy Spirit, not by human effort, we must be changed from this old-self man of flesh… to a new spiritual man. (Nhưng c/ta là những người đã được thánh hóa bởi huyết của Chiên Con, trở nên những tạo vật mới, đang được biến hóa mỗi ngày bởi Thần Linh Chúa, thì c/ta phải thay đổi từ con người cũ chỉ theo tánh xác thịt… mà trở nên một người mới, người thiêng liêng trong Chúa Giê-su.)
a) This transformation from old-self to a new man, Paul said, happens inside the body of this flesh. (Sự biến hóa này từ con người cũ qua con người thiêng liêng diễn tiễn, xảy ra ngay trong thân thể xác thịt này.)
# Galatians 2:20 Paul declared of his new life in the body – “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Trong Galati 2:20, sứ đồ Phaolô tuyên bố đời sống mới của ông trong thân xác này – “Tôi đã bị đóng đinh vào thập tự giá với Đấng Christ, mà tôi sống, không phải là tôi sống nữa, nhưng Đấng Christ sống trong tôi; nay tôi còn sống trong xác thịt, ấy là tôi sống trong đức tin của Con Đức Chúa Trời, là Đấng đã yêu tôi, và đã phó chính mình Ngài vì tôi.”)
> So, a saved person has two bodies – the old-self flesh, and the new spiritual being; for that reason, we constantly have an inner struggle that Paul experienced and said in Romans 7:18-20 – “For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” (Như vậy một người đã được cứu rỗi có đến 2 con người sống ở trong mình, con người cũ theo tánh xác thịt vẫn còn, và con người mới thiêng liêng; vì vậy mà c/ta kinh nghiệm sự tranh đấu nội tâm, chiến tranh giữa 2 con người này, mà Phaolô đã biết và nói – “Vả, tôi biết điều lành chẳng ở trong tôi đâu, nghĩa là trong xác thịt tôi, bởi tôi có ý muốn làm điều lành, nhưng không có quyền làm trọn; 19 vì tôi không làm điều lành mình muốn, nhưng làm điều dữ mình không muốn.”)
b) But the new man has the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome this spiritual battle, because the Spirit constantly resides in the believers’ body, as Paul explained in 1 Corinthians 6:19 – “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, whom you have received from God?...” (Nhưng con người mới có quyền phép để có thế thắng được trận chiến nội tâm này, vì Thần Linh của Chúa luôn ngự trị bên trong lòng c/ta, mà Phaolô dạy rõ – “Anh em há chẳng biết rằng thân thể mình là đền thờ của Đức Thánh Linh đang ngự trong anh em, là Đấng mà anh em đã nhận bởi Đức Chúa Trời…” Con người mới chiến đấu không phải bằng năng lực giới hạn của con người, nhưng quyền năng vô hạn của Thánh Linh ban cho.)
# In 2 Corinthians 10:4 it clearly said – “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” (Trong 2 Côrinhtô 10:4 chép rõ – “Vả, những khí giới mà chúng tôi dùng để chiến tranh là không phải thuộc về xác thịt đâu, bèn là bởi quyền năng của Đức Chúa Trời, có sức mạnh để đạp đổ các đồn lũy (của satan và ma quỉ).”)
# Two important weapons that the Spirit gives us to fight are listed in Ephesians 6:17-18 – “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests...” (Hai vũ khí quan trọng mà Thánh Linh ban cho c/ta để chiến đấu với con người xác thịt có chép trong Êphêsô 6:17-18 – “Cũng hãy lấy sự cứu chuộc làm mão trụ, và cầm gươm của Đức Thánh Linh, là lời Đức Chúa Trời. 18 Hãy nhờ Đức Thánh Linh, thường thường làm đủ mọi thứ cầu nguyện và nài xin...”)
> Why haven’t many Christians put to death the flesh and its desires? Simply, because we have not fought it using the sword of the Spirit and praying in the Spirit. (Tại sao vô số con cái Chúa ngày nay vẫn chưa làm chết được con người xác thịt của mình? Chỉ vì c/ta chưa biết sử dụng gươm của Thánh Linh, và bền đổ trong sự cầu nguyện.)
# When was the last time when you faced an important matter that you did take time to pray first and search the Scriptures for an answer? (Đâu là lần cuối bạn đối diện với một nan đề trong đời sống, mà đã dừng bước cầu nguyện với Chúa trước, và tìm câu trả lời trong lời của Ngài dạy dỗ?)
c) Only when the new man has a constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit and yields to His guidance and direction by the words taught by the Spirit, having the knowledge of God’s will… that we can win this spiritual battle. (Chỉ khi nào con người mới có mối liên hệ gần gũi với Thánh Linh và bằng lòng đầu phục Ngài, làm theo những lời dạy dỗ của Chúa, để hiểu biết ý Chúa, thì mới thắng được trận chiến thuộc linh này với con người xác thịt.)
# 1 Corinthinas 2:13 – “This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit...” (1 Côrinhtô 2:13 – “chúng ta nói về ơn đó, không cậy lời nói mà sự khôn ngoan của loài người đã dạy đâu, song cậy sự khôn ngoan mà Đức Thánh Linh đã dạy, dùng tiếng thiêng liêng để giải bày sự thiêng liêng…” Người có Thánh Linh nghe, hiểu và dùng tiếng thiêng liêng để giải bày sự thiêng liêng, chứ không suy đoán theo ý riêng, theo tánh xác thịt.)
> For that reason, the new man would delight in the study of God’s words, in worships and fellowship with those who have the same faith. (Con người mới thì vui thích trong sự học lời Chúa, nhóm thờ phượng, thông công với những người cùng một niềm tin. Người có Thánh Linh thường xuyên gần gũi với Chúa và lời Ngài mỗi ngày, để được dạy dỗ & biết rõ ý muốn của Chúa cho mình.)
# An example of the early church guided by the Holy Spirt – what did they do that recorded in Acts 2:42-45 – “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need...” (Một thí dụ của Hội Thánh ban đầu được đầy dẫy Thánh Linh thì họ thường làm gì? “Vả, những người ấy bền lòng giữ lời dạy của các sứ đồ, sự thông công của anh em, lễ bẻ bánh, và sự cầu nguyện. 43 Mọi người đều kính sợ vì có nhiều sự kỳ phép lạ làm ra bởi các sứ đồ. 44 Phàm những người tin Chúa đều hiệp lại với nhau, lấy mọi vật làm của chung. 45 Bán hết gia tài điền sản mình mà phân phát cho nhau, tùy sự cần dùng của từng người. 46 Ngày nào cũng vậy, cứ chăm chỉ đến đền thờ; còn ở nhà, thì bẻ bánh và dùng bữa chung với nhau cách vui vẻ thật thà…”)
> Are we there yet? (VHBC sống với sự đầu phục Thánh Linh hoàn toàn giống như vậy chưa?)
d) Many Christians are still living a life of spiritual misery, because they make judgments not according to the Spirit, but human flesh; so, they have not experienced a peaceful life as said in Romans 8:5-6 – “…those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires… and v. 6 The mind… governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (Vô số những người cơ đốc vẫn sống trong bối rối và khốn khổ, như thuyền lênh đên trên song gío, như gặp giông bão đưa đẩy hoài, vì sự xét định của họ chỉ dựa trên tánh xác thịt, hơn là sự dạy dỗ của Thánh Linh; cho nên họ chưa kinh nghiệm được sự bình an, như có hứa trong Rôma 8:5-6 – “… còn kẻ sống theo Thánh Linh thì chăm những sự thuộc về Thánh Linh… c. 6 … còn ai chăm về Thánh Linh sanh ra sự sống và bình an;”)
> Peace from within, peace with God, peace with others to enjoy the happiness of families and in all relationships, including the in-laws, and not headaches or bitterness… that could grow gray hairs and skin wrinkles. (Sự bình an trong tâm hồn, bình an với Chúa trên cao, bình an với mọi người xung quanh, nếm hạnh phúc gia đình, có mối liên tốt đẹp với mọi người, kể cả bên gia đình vợ chồng họ hàng người thân, với rể và dâu, thay vị bị nhức đầu, bị cay đắng… làm c/ta bị tóc bạc hay da mặt nhăn nheo sớm? (sorry, except for the elders, including me)
> Not just for peace, but other fruits that the Holy Spirit in Galatians 5:22 promises to give – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, … forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.” (Không phải kinh nghiệm sự bình an thôi, nhưng còn nhiều hoa trái tốt nữa mà Thánh Linh hứa ban cho trong Galati 5:22 – “lòng yêu thương, sự vui mừng, … nhịn nhục, nhân từ, hiền lành, trung tín, mềm mại, tiết độ.”)
> Which man is dominating our heart, controlling our mind, influencing our conducts? The old-self man of flesh or the new man? (Ai là người thống trị tấm lòng, tư tưởng và đời sống c/ta mỗi ngày?)
# I have a bottle which keeps all the viatamins and medicine in one place: Allerga allergy, 84mg aspirins, Tumeric pills, glucosamine vitamin. And you know - Turmeric has a very strong odor and dark yellow color.
> One day while driving I asked my wife to get me an allergy pill – I stated clearly “it’s the pink color pill.” But she could not find it. Everything in the bottle are “yellow.”
> Later I realize the turmeric pills have saturated and changed the color of all pills inside the bottle to a yellow color.
> Is the new man saturating your life… or still the old-self flesh? (Con người mới đang thấm nhuần, thống trị đời sống của c/ta, hay là con người xác thịt?)
> Is the new man stronger than the old-self flesh? (Con người mới có mạnh hơn con người xác thịt không?)
> What are we feeding this new man with everyday? (C/ta đang nuôi con người mới của mình bằng những món thức ăn gì để nó được mạnh mẽ?)
# A indian chief explained to a group of kids about the struggle between good and evil, as pictures of a mean and gentle dogs living inside each of us.
> One of the youths raised his hand and asked – “So, which dog will win? The mean or gentle dog?” The wise chief answered: “The one that you feed it well.”
> It would not be surprised to see so many Christians today from outside – they are good looking, healthy, cool, intelligent… but inside is a spiritual corpse, because the food we feed our body daily are only to satisfy the desires of the flesh. (Không là điều ngạc khi c/ta thấy vô số những người cơ đốc, bên ngoài trông khỏe mạnh, tốt tươi, thông minh, giỏi dang… nhưng bên trong là một xác chết thuộc linh, con người thiêng liêng ốm eo, gầy mòn, teo tặt, vì những thứ c/ta cho mình ăn chỉ toàn là những thức ăn nuôi tư dục của xác thịt mà thôi.)
> I don’t think I exaggerate it - Just check yourself on this - How much time have you spent a day for the spiritual man in prayer and studying the Bible, comparing to enjoy life pleasures, isn’t that truly telling us the conditions of the new man in us?
> How many things do you do in a day, that are prompted/guided by the new man in Christ? Can you count them?
> As Christians, we cannot stay the same when we have the Holy Spirit resides in us. (C/ta không thể cứ y như cũ, khi có Chúa Thánh Linh ngự trị trong lòng mình.)
> There is a great danger for Christians who do NOT grow up spiritually, but just want to stay as carnal, called “babies” Christians that cause all kinds of troubles in the church of God. (Nếu là con cái Chúa mà cứ ở trong tình trạng “trẻ con thuộc linh” hoài thì không ổn, vì sẽ gây khó khăn cho chính Hội Thánh của Chúa, nào là sanh sự tranh cạnh, cãi lẫy, bất bình, bè đảng…)
> One example is given 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 when Paul corrected some church members – “Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? 4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings?” (Như là việc xảy ra trong Hội Thánh Côrinhtô mà Phaolô cáo trách – “Hỡi anh em, về phần tôi, tôi chẳng có thể nói với anh em như với người thiêng liêng, nhưng như với người xác thịt, như với các con đỏ (em bé) trong Đấng Christ vậy. 2 Tôi lấy sữa nuôi anh em, chớ chẳng lấy đồ ăn cứng, vì anh em không chịu nổi; đến bây giờ cũng chưa chịu được, vì anh em hãy còn thuộc về xác thịt. 3 Thật, bởi trong anh em có sự ghen ghét và tranh cạnh, anh em há chẳng phải là tánh xác thịt ăn ở như người thế gian sao?”)
> Churches that have many of these baby Christians are very difficult to grow, because they reject to “eat” the spiritual food or drink the spiritual “milk,” but they just follow their human instincts of jealousy, quarrelling, dividing the church, and damaging relationships. (Hội Thánh có nhiều “trẻ em thuộc linh” thì khó tăng trưởng, vì hay theo bản tánh xác thịt, gây sự ghen ghét và tranh cạnh mà làm tổn thương nhiều mối liên hệ.)
> Each of us must often exam ourselves to see what condition of our spiritual man is in. (Mỗi người c/ta phải luôn tự xét để nhận biết mình là người nào và đang ở trong trạng thái nào: “trẻ con” hay “tăng trưởng đều đặn?”)
> We are saved, the Holy Spirit lives inside us, and we must have a desire to grow spiritually by following the teachings of the God’s words: (C/ta đã được cứu, Thánh Linh đang sống trong mỗi c/ta, vậy thì c/ta phải sống làm theo lời Chúa có chép:)
# Galatians 5:16 – “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Because in Galatians 6:8, it said – “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (Trong Galati 5:16 – “Vậy tôi nói rằng: Hãy bước đi theo Thánh Linh, chớ hề làm trọn những điều ưa muốn của xác thịt.” là bởi vì trong Galati 6:8 cũng chép – “Kẻ gieo cho xác thịt, sẽ bởi xác thịt mà gặt sự hư nát; song kẻ gieo cho Thánh Linh, sẽ bởi Thánh Linh mà gặt sự sống đời đời.”)
> On the last day, Jesus will return as a Judge to separate people and nations into 2 groups: Sheep and Goats. “Goats” are those who set their minds on the desires of the flesh; and “sheep” are those who believe in Jesus and pursue the things belong to the Spirit. (Trong ngày sau rốt, Chúa Giê-su sẽ trở lại như là vị Quan Tòa Lớn sẽ chia mọi người trên thế gian này ra thành hai nhóm: Dê và chiên. “Dê” là những người thế gian chỉ đeo đuổi những tư dục của xác thịt, những điều thuộc thế gian này thôi; còn “chiên” là những người đã tin nhận Cứu Chúa Giê-su, và chăm lo những điều thiêng liêng thuộc của Thánh Linh hướng dẫn.)
> And the Judge will send the goats away to eternal punishment, but the righteous sheep to eternal life.” (Và rồi Chúa sẽ quăng dê vào sự phán xét đời đời, còn chiên là người công bình bởi huyết Chúa Giê-su thì đi vào thiên đàng hưởng sự sống đời đời.)
> Who will you be? Only you can answer this question for yourself! (Bạn sẽ là ai? Chỉ một mình bạn mới có thể trả lời câu hỏi này cho chính mình mà thôi.)

> Everyday we wake up from our sleep – who is controlling/dominating our life?
> What are the things that we pursue everyday? Do they have eternal values or just temporarily?
> What do we depend on… in making all decisions, and choices? Is it the old-self flesh or the new man?
> Are we listening to the world philosophies, or believe in God’s truths written in the Bible?
> Are you still living to believe that “you are a worm,” rather than a precious child of God by placing your faith in Jesus Christ, God’s Son?
> Is there anything in this world becoming new everyday? None.
# Everything in this world will pass away one day and never return.
# Our cars will get rusted, our age and beauty will fade, the relationnal love will be diminished.
> But the Bible says the only thing that keeps renewing by the power of the Holy Spirit is our spiritual man, in 2 Corinthians 4 – “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly (the spiritual man) we are being renewed day by day.” (“Vậy nên chúng ta chẳng ngã lòng, dầu người bề ngoài hư nát, nhưng người bề trong cứ đổi mới càng ngày càng hơn.”)
# You don’t need to buy expensive make-ups, or eat a certain healthy organics food to keep this spiritual body new, just yield and obey the Holy Spirit’s leadings.
> Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh, but set your mind and pursue the things of God that have eternal values, and bring glory to Him.
> Make a commitment today – “I am saved by the grace of God. I have the Holy Spirit living inside of me. I can overcome my old-self of the flesh and its desires by trusting and depending on Spirit’s power. I commit to pray without ceasing. I commit to study God’s words everyday, faifthfully attending worships, and fellowship with other Christians weekly. I commit to judge everything, not according to human wisdom, but the words taught by the Spirit. I commit to “walk by the Spirit, not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Thank you Lord for the promise of the eternal life and peace for those who walk by the Spirit. Amen!”
