(The Kingdom of God)
Công Vụ 1:3
“Sau khi chịu đau đớn rồi, thì trước mặt các sứ đồ, Ngài (Chúa Giê-xu) lấy nhiều chứng cớ tỏ ra mình là sống, và hiện đến với các sứ đồ trong bốn mươi ngày, phán bảo những sự về nước Đức Chúa Trời.“
(After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.)
I. Re-prioritize Life Purpose
> Life is full of suffering… that none of us wants to deal with. (Đời là “bể khổ…” mà trong c/ta không một ai muốn đối diện với.)
> Headaches and suffering often come from tragedies, such as the recent historic flood in Louisiana. (Những tai họa khổ sở gây ra bởi trận lụt lớn vừa xảy ra ở tiểu bang LA.)
> Most of these disasters come suddently without any warnings, likes a “thief” in the night, when we do not have time to prepare for them. (Thường thì những tai họa này xảy đến rất bất ngờ, như “kẻ trộm” trong đêm, không báo trước mà c/ta không có đủ thì giờ để đối phó.)
# You woke up, the water already begun to enter into your house door; there was no way you can drive your cars out on the street anymore, and the only wayout was using a canoe or small boat. (Có người ngủ qua đêm, lúc thức dậy thì nước đã vào cửa nhà, lái xe ra cũng không được, chỉ nhờ những chiếc canô hay thuyền chèo vào cứu.)
> Facing these natural disasters, we as human feel so small and weak, and may wonder about the purpose of life? (Khi đối diện với những tai họa này, c/ta là con người cảm thấy mình quá yếu đuối trước thiên tai, và chắc cũng suy nghĩ đến ý nghĩa cuối cùng của cuộc sống này là gì?)
> At least one of the lessons we can learn in all disasters is to re-evaluate our life priorities. (Tối thiểu một bài học quí gía giúp c/ta qua những tai họa đó là nhận biết mình cần phải điều chỉnh lại sự ưu tiên của đời sống.)
# Standing and looking at a mountain of trash, I wonder myself – “Is that all for life? Is it how life ended? Where can I find the true purpose of life that nothing can destroy, no earth quake can shake?” (Đứng trước những đống rác đầy những vật quí gía… như là TV, tủ lạnh, máy điện toán, china cabinet… bị nước lụt làm hư hại, c/ta có lẽ thốt lên “cuộc đời có vậy thôi sao? Mục đích của cuộc sống này ở đâu mà những cơn lụt không thể phá hủy được?”)
> Tragedies help us to re-focus on what is really important in this life to pursue? (Những tai họa giúp c/ta điều chỉnh lại sự ưu tiên cho đời sống mà đeo đuổi cho đúng mục đích.)
> Well, if you ask Jesus Christ then His answer for pursuing life priority is the “Kingdom of God.” (KOG) (Nếu bạn hỏi Chúa Giê-xu là Đấng đến từ “trời” đến về câu hỏi này, thì câu trả lời của Ngài chắc chắn sẽ là “nước thiên đàng.”)
> Jesus came to this lost world more than 2,000 years ago with the two main purposes: 1) To preach about the KOG, and 2) To provide a “Way” for anyone wants to come in. (Chúa Giê-xu đến thế gian mờ tối này hơn 2,000 trước đây với 2 mục tiêu ưu tiên như sau: 1) Giảng về nước Đức Chúa Trời, và 2) cung cấp “con đường” cho bất cứ những ai muốn vào đó một ngày.)
> This is His priority… because the KOG is the “possesion” that is eternal, and the true purpose for us on why we are created. (Nước thiên đàng là mục tiêu tại sao Chúa giáng thế và muốn ban cho… vì cơ nghiệp này là đời đời, và đó cũng chính là mục đích tại sao mỗi c/ta được Chúa tạo dựng nên.)
II. Basic Beliefs
> In order to understand Jesus’ priority, we need first to have some basic beliefs that are governed by our conscience inside. (Để có thể hiểu thấu sự ưu tiên của nước thiên đàng, c/ta cần có những niềm tin căn bản, đã được thể hiện trong lương tâm của con người c/ta.)
> To me, the two most basic beliefs are: (Hai điều căn bản nhất:)
1) First, there is a great Creator Who in the beginning has begun life and time. (Phải có một Đấng Tạo Hóa chí cao, và từ chính Ngài mà mọi sự… từ thời gian cho đến sự sống của mọi loài bắt đầu.)
> Is there anything self-created… from the gasoline you put into your car tank, to the food placed on your table, so there must a great Creator Who started everything from nothing in the beginning? (Có điều gì mà tự có được không… từ thứ nhiên liệu xăng quí vị bơm xe, cho đến những thực vật c/ta có trên bàn ăn mỗi ngày; vậy thì phải có một Đấng Tạo Hóa quyền năng đã dựng nên mọi thứ lúc ban đầu từ chỗ hư không?)
# Genesis 1:1 is the most fundamental belief to answer the most important question about life’s origin - “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Trong Kinh Thánh Sáng Thế Ký 1:1 có chép niềm tin căn bản này: “Ban đầu Đức Chúa Trời dựng nên trời đất.”)
> This verse does not prove the origin of God… but to declare of a great Creator called “God” (Elohim) Who created everything from the beginning. (Câu này không có chứng mình nguồn gốc của Đấng Tạo hóa, vì Ngài tự có; nhưng là nói đến nguồn gốc của mọi vật được dựng nên do chính Chúa.)
2) Secondly, as human, we have the spiritual dimension that eyes cannot see. (Điều căn bản thứ hai c/ta cần nhận biết là loài người có phần tâm linh, mà mắt thường không thể thấy được.)
# The atheists work hard today trying to destroy these two basic beliefs that there is no God, and human life does not have a spiritual dimesion. (Nhóm vô thần làm việc sốt sắng để phá hủy 2 điều căn bản: thứ nhất là “không có Đấng Tạo Hóa,” và thứ hai con người không có phần linh hồn.)
> They go around, accusing and forcing our government to remove crosses in many historic & public places, and now the word “God and spiritual.” (Họ lên án chống đối cả chính quyền phải bỏ đi những dấu hiệu thập tự gía ở khắp nơi công cộng, và bây giờ bất cứ chỗ nào có chữ “Chúa” hay là “tâm linh.”)
# A story about a philosophy professor declared to his students that… “there is no God.” (Một giáo sư dạy về triết lý tuyên bố với các học sinh là “Không có Chúa nào hết.”) But a student raised his hand and said: “But the Bible said there is a God Who made heaven and earth.” (Một em học sinh giơ tay đính chính “Nhưng Kinh Thánh chép ban đầu có Đấng Tạo Hóa dựng nên trời và đất” mà.) The professor then asked the student: “Do you see God?” (Vị gíao sư hỏi lại em học sinh: “Em có thấy Đấng đó không?”) The student said: “No, I don’t.” (Em học sinh trả lời: “Dạ thưa không thấy.”) The professor concluded: “See! You don’t see god, so god does not exist!” (Vị giáo sư kết luật: “Em không thấy được Đấng đó, như vậy thì Đức Chúa Trời không có hiện hữu.”) The student answered: “Professor! Do you see your brain?” (Em học sinh khôn ngoan hỏi lại: “Thưa thầy! Thầy có thấy bộ óc của thầy không?”) The professor said: “No.” (Vị giáo sư trả lời: “Đâu có thấy đâu!”) The student replied: “You don’t see your brain, so that means your brain does not exist, and that may be why you don’t see God?” (Em học sinh trả lời: “Thầy không thấy bộ óc của mình, như vậy có nghĩa là thầy không có óc; có lẽ vì vậy mà thầy không thể thấy Chúa được.”)
> There is a clear distinction that human has a spiritual dimension… because we search for the mystery of life, and question about “eternity,” that you never see any animals gathering together to discuss this? (Dấu chứng rõ ràng con người có phần linh… vì c/ta thắc mắc về cõi đời sau và tìm kiếm câu trả lời cho thế giới đời đời… mà không có loài vật nào đã được dựng nên có câu hỏi đó?)
# Ecclesiastes 3:11 – “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” (Sách Truyền Đạo từ Vua Salômôm là vị vua khôn ngoan nhất đã nói: “Phàm vật Đức Chúa Trời đã làm nên đều là tốt lành trong thì nó. Lại, Ngài khiến cho sự đời đời ở nơi lòng loài người; dầu vậy, công việc Đức Chúa Trời làm từ ban đầu đến cuối cùng, người không thế hiểu được.)
III. Who is Jesus Christ?
> The bottom-line question is always Who has the power and wisdom to answer all of these questions about creation, spiritual life, and eternity? (Câu hỏi quan trọng luôn là ai có đủ sự khôn ngoan để trả lời những câu hỏi về sự sáng tạo, linh hồn con người, và cõi đời đời đây?)
> There are many who came and said that they have the answers. (Biết bao nhiêu những giáo chủ đã đến thế gian và tuyên bố mình có câu trả lời.)
> I name the few: Buddha, Mohamad, Joseph Smith, Tao… (Nào là phật tử, Môhamét, Lão, Khổng…)
> What’s about Jesus Christ? What would be His answers if you want to know? (Còn Chúa Giê-xu thì sao, câu trả lời của Ngài là gì, và bạn có muốn tìm biết để so sánh không, coi xem lời Ngài nói có lý không?)
> If you really want to know about Jesus and His anwers, you must remember 2 basic points: (Để tìm hiểu về câu trả lời của Chúa Giê-xu, trước hết bạn cần dựa trên 2 điểm căn bản:)
1) What did Jesus claim about Himself… that others never said? (Chúa Giê-xu đã tự xưng gì về chính Mình… mà không có chủ giáo nào đã dám xưng?)
2) Why did He come to this earth? (Mục đích Chúa hiện hữu trên thế gian này là để làm gì?)
> First, Jesus declared something about Himself… that no one on this earth ever said, in John 10:30 He said – “I and the Father are one.” (Một điều hết sức lạ là chỉ có Chúa tự xưng đó là… Ngài với Đức Chúa Cha ở trên Trời là một.)
> For this reason, the Jews tried to find opportunities to kill Jesus… because of the sin of blasphermy to call Himself equal to God. (Bởi chính lời tuyên bố này mà những người lãnh đạo Do Thái đã tìm mọi cớ giết Ngài, cán cho Chúa tội phạm thượng, xưng mình với Đức Chúa Trời là một.)
# John 10:33 it was not about His good works, but because of His claim - “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.” (Trong Giăng 10:33 có chép không phải vì những việc lành Chúa làm, nhưng lời Ngài đã tự xưng về mình – “Người Giu-đa trả lời rằng: Ấy chẳng phải vì một việc lành mà chúng ta ném đá ngươi, nhưng vì lỗi lộng ngôn: ngươi là người, mà tự xưng là Đức Chúa Trời.”)
# Go back to the time near the cross, what was the main accusation of the Jewish leaders to crucify Him in John 19:6-7 – “As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!” But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.” 7 The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.” (Trở lại lúc Chúa bị xử hình thì lý do chính họ lên án Ngài là gì có chép trong Giăng 19:6-7? “Nhưng khi các thầy tế lễ cả và các kẻ sai thấy Ngài, thì kêu lên rằng: Hãy đóng đinh hắn trên cây thập tự, hãy đóng đinh hắn trên cây thập tự! Phi-lát nói cùng chúng rằng: Chính mình các ngươi hãy bắt mà đóng đinh người; bởi vì về phần ta không thấy người có tội lỗi chi hết. 7 Dân Giu-đa lại nói rằng: Chúng tôi có luật, chiếu luật đó hắn phải chết; vì hắn tự xưng là Con Đức Chúa Trời.)
> What does it really mean when Jesus said: “I and the Father are one?” (Ý nghĩa là sao khi Chúa Giê-xu tự xưng rằng Ngài và Đức Chúa Cha là một?”)
> What Jesus meant was that He is the great Creator in the flesh, the Son of God. (Nghĩa là Chúa là Đấng Tạo Hóa chí cao dựng nên muôn loài… trong thân xác của loài người.)
> Anyone of us can claim what Jesus did… but where are the facts to prove our claims is a different story. (Ai trong c/ta cũng có thể tuyên xưng giống như Chúa Giê-xu vậy, nhưng bằng cớ ở đâu làm chứng lời tuyên xưng của mình là một chuyện khác?)
> What did Jesus do to prove what He has claimed? (Chúa Giê-xu đã làm những gì để chứng tỏ lời tuyên xưng về mình?)
1) His virgin birth that the world celebrates Christmas every years. (Sự sanh ra đời từ một người nữ đồng trinh có một không hai, mà thế giới hằng năm ăn mừng đại lễ Giáng Sinh.)
> His root was not from Adam & Eve. (Chứng tỏ “nguồn gốc” của Ngài không từ 2 kẻ tội nhân Ađam & Êve đầu tiên mà ra.)
# In John 8:23, Jesus claimed - “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.” (Trong Giăng 8:23, Chúa Giê-xu tuyên bố với những người lãnh đạo Do Thái - “”)
2) His miracles above all kinds of sicknesses, nature, demon-possed, and raising the death to life. (Những phép lạ Chúa đã làm ở trên mọi bệnh tật, người bị quỉ ám, thiên tai, và kể cả làm kẻ chết sống lại.)
3) His power to forgive sins that only God can do, because only God is perfect and sinless. (Chúa phán rằng Ngài có quyền tha tội, mà người Do Thái biết rõ chỉ có Đức Chúa Trời toàn vẹn mới làm được điều này.)
4) His resurrection after buried in the tomb for 3 days because the eternal God Himself cannot die. (Sự sống lại của Chúa sau 3 ngày bị chôn trong mộ đá, bởi vì Đức Chúa Trời quyền năng thì không thể chết mãi được.)
> I believe that the great Creator gives human not just the conscience to know the truth, but also wisdom to discern the truth. (Đấng Tạo Hóa không phải ban cho c/ta có lương tâm để tìm biết lẽ thật, nhưng còn trí khôn để biết phân biệt lẽ thật khỏi những điều sai lầm.)
> Can you discern that - Is there anyone in the history of mankind that has such claims and proofs as Jesus Christ? (Hãy tự hỏi, trên thế giới này có chủ giáo nào đã tuyên bố với những chứng cớ rõ ràng như vậy?)
# You may have to answer it youself; I did mine and found Jesus is the truth and that’s why I gave my life to Him. (Bạn phải tự xét và trả lời cho mình; Tôi đã cẩn thận làm phần của mình và tìm biết Chúa Giê-xu là lẽ thật, vì đó mà tôi tin nhận Ngài làm Cứu Chúa của đời mình.)
IV. His Focused Priority – The Kingdom of God
> Why did Jesus come to this earth? (Tại sao Chúa Giê-xu đến thế gian này? Mục đích ưu tiên của Ngài là gì?)
# Just as an athele enters an Olympic race, his/her goal is the gold medal; when Jesus entered this world, His focus is to preach the kingdom of God (KOG), and provide a way for anyone wanting to go there. (Như một lực sĩ thể thao bước vào trận đấu thế vận hội, chú tâm của họ là “huy chương vàng,” thì chú tâm của Chúa Giê-xu đến thế gian là để giảng về nước thiên đàng, và ban phát “con đường” cho những ai muốn vào đó một ngày.)
a) When Jesus started His ministry after 40 days/nights up in the mountain to be tested, He began to preach about the KOG, as recorded in Matthew 4:17 – “From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” (Khi Chúa Giê-xu bắt đầu đi ra giảng đạo, Ngài bắt đầu bằng những bài giảng nhắm về nước thiên đàng, như có chép trong Mathiơ 4:17 – “Từ lúc đó, Đức Chúa Jêsus khởi giảng dạy rằng: Các ngươi hãy ăn năn, vì nước thiên đàng đã đến gần.”)
b) The sermons on the Mount in Matthew 5:3 Jesus preached about the KOG – “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Trong bài giảng trên núi, Chúa giảng về nước thiên đàng – “Phước cho những kẻ có lòng khó khăn, vì nước thiên đàng là của những kẻ ấy!”)
c) His invitation to the crowd focused all about the KOG priority, as in Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Trong lời kêu gọi mọi người, Chúa nhắm đến sự ưu tiên tìm kiếm nước Đức Chúa Trời trước tiên – “Nhưng trước hết, hãy tìm kiếm nước Đức Chúa Trời và sự công bình của Ngài, thì Ngài sẽ cho thêm các ngươi mọi điều ấy nữa.”)
d) The majority of His teaching parables was about the KOG, starting with the phrase “The kingdom of heaven is liked…” (Số đông những ẩn dụ Chúa Giê-xu dùng đều nói về nước thiên đàng, và bắt đầu bằng những chữ như sau: “Nước thiên đàng giống như…”)
e) Even after resurrected from the death and appeared to His disciples in 40 days, Jesus talked about the KOG as in Acts 1:3. (Kể cả sau khi sống lại và hiện ra với các môn đồ của mình 40 ngày, Chúa Giê-xu nói với họ về nước thiên đàng.)
# If Jesus goes with FEMA (cơ quan trợ giúp của chính phủ), He will speak about the KOG; If He works with Tzu Chi (Hội từ thiện phật giáo), He will share about the KOG: If He gives out food to the community with VHBC, He will preach about the KOG.
> Why is KOG so important? (Tại sao nước thiên đàng phải là ưu tiên?)
a) Because there is an alternate destination that you do not want to go there, it is called hell. (Lý do là vì có một định mệnh nữa gọi là địa ngục.)
# Jesus also taught about this destimation as a lake of fire killing both soul and body of a person, eternal suffering and separation from God and His mercy, eternal darkness that has no more chance to escape. (Chúa Giê-xu cũng nói rõ đây là hồ lửa địa ngục là nơi cả hồn lẫn xác của một người đời đời bị xa cách khỏi Đức Chúa Trời, triền miên trong sự đau đớn, và không còn có cơ hội thoát lần nữa.)
b) God created human in the beginging was NOT for this purpose to perish eternally in hell. (Lúc ban đầu ĐCT dựng nên loài người không phải cho mục đích của địa ngục.)
> But to live in God’s house and His presence forever. (Nhưng để được tương giao trực tiếp và hưởng nước thiên đàng của Chúa đời đời.)
# Someone said correctly: “We are created with a purpose to enjoy God forever.” (Có người nói đúng: “C/ta được dựng nên để được liên hệ tương giao, vui thỏa, thưởng thức Chúa.”)
> That is the only thing that can satisfy our souls eternally. (Đó chỉ là điều có thể thỏa mãn phần tâm linh của con người c/ta, đã được dựng nên giống hình ảnh của Chúa vậy.)
c) It sounds good, but how can we get to the KOG… when God is holy and we are sinners? (Nghe tin tốt lắm, nhưng làm sao c/ta vào đó được, khi Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng thánh khiết vẹn toàn, còn c/ta hết thảy là những kẻ tội nhân đáng chết?)
# Just like a doctor has examed you and said: “You have cancer.” That’s good to know the root of the problem, but the question is always “Is there a cure for it?” (Giống như là có một vị bác sĩ chuẩn bịnh cho bạn và nói: “Anh bị ung thư.” Nhưng câu hỏi quan trọng hơn là có cách gì chữa được không?)
> God is perfect and sinless, so the basic condition for those who wants to live in His kingdom must also be perfect. (Vì Chúa là Đấng thánh khiết vẹn toàn cho nên ai muốn vào tương giao với Ngài thì cũng phải vẹn toàn.)
> Well, if that is the requirement then I am sorry to say that none of us can go there, because “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Nếu đây là điều kiện thì trong c/ta không ai có thể vào được, bởi vì “mọi người đã phạm tội, thiếu mất sự vinh hiển của Đức Chúa Trời.”)
> “Perfectness” of God is not about doing more good deeds to cover up for the bad ones, but is “sinless” liked NEVER commit a sin at all. (Sự vẹn toàn theo tiêu chuiẩn của Chúa không phải là làm nhiều điều thiện bù đắp những việc ác, nhưng là vô tội, như chưa hề vi phạm một điều ác chi.)
# James 2:10 – “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” (Trong Giacơ 2:10 định tiêu chuẩn vẹn toàn này – “Vì người nào giữ trọn luật pháp, mà phạm một điều răn, thì cũng đáng tội như đã phạm hết thảy.”)
> How can I get to heaven when God is so holy? (Như vậy thì làm sao tôi được vào nước thiên đàng mà Chúa Giê-xu đã đến giảng dạy đây?)
d) But Jesus came not just to preach about the KOG, but He is also “the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes through the Father (entering the KOG) without Him.” (Nhưng Chúa Giê-xu đến không chỉ giảng về nước thiên đàng, nhưng Ngài còn cung cấp, “con đường” dẫn bất cứ ai muốn vào nơi đó.)
> How did Jesus do it that makes us becoming “perfect” and accepted by God? (Chúa Giê-xu đã làm gì để “biến hóa” c/ta trở nên vẹn toàn đây?)
# Through His sinless blood that can wash away all our sins, making us “sinless & perfect” before the Father. (Qua chính sự đổ huyết thánh của Chúa trên thập tự rửa sạch mọi tội của những kẻ tin, làm c/ta trở nên vẹn toàn trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời.)
# 2 Corinthians 5:21 – “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (Trong 2 Côrinhtô 5:21 - sứ đồ Phaolô nói: “Đức Chúa Trời đã làm cho Đấng vốn chẳng biết tội lỗi trở nên tội lỗi vì chúng ta, hầu cho chúng ta nhờ Đấng đó mà được trở nên sự công bình của Đức Chúa Trời.”)
> When you want to know Jesus, you must recognize He came for the purpose of preaching about the KOG, and provide the way to enter the KOG, through His blood. (Nếu bạn muốn biết Chúa Giê-xu, bạn phải hiểu mục đích Ngài đến thế gian này là để giảng về nước thiên đàng, và cung cấp con đường cứu chuộc cho mọi người, cho bất cứ ai muốn vào đó.)
V. Trust Christ Today
> There are few other truths that you need to know: (Có những lẽ thật nữa bạn cần biết:)
1) It’s NOT automatic for everyone to have the KOG; each of us must make our own choice; just as we make our own choice to sin against Him. (Không tự nhiên mà mọi người ai nấy đều được vào nước thiên đàng đâu; mỗi người c/ta phải tự chọn tiếp nhận món quà này, như mỗi người đã tự ý phạm tội vậy.)
> I cannot make the decision for you; I only can make for myself. (Tôi không thể quyết định cho quí vị; tôi chỉ có thể chọn cho riêng mình mà thôi.)
# FEMA visits you to do an assessment and wrote a check 20k$ with your name on it, you have a choice? (FEMA đến thăm nhà quí vị bị lụt, sau khi kiểm kê, họ viết cái check 20k$ có tên quí vị ở trên đó, bây giờ quí vị có sự quyết định.)
> You either reject the check or accept it? The money only belongs to you… if you receive the check and deposit to your bank account. (Một là bạn không thèm lấy, hay hai là bạn bằng lòng nhận và bỏ vào nhà bank của mình.)
> I want to accept it for you – but I can’t; the check does NOT have my name. (Tôi cũng muốn lấy thế cái check cho bạn, nhưng không được, vì không phải tên của tôi.)
2) The time to believe in Jesus to enter the KOG is NOT always available; you have to receive the KOG by faith in Jesus before your last breath. (Cơ hội để nhận nước thiên đàng không phải lúc nào cũng có, nhưng bạn phải nhận trước khi trút hơi thở cuối cùng ở trên đời này.)
# Since no one can be sure about “tomorrow,” the best time to trust Christ and secure your place in the KOG is right now. The Kingdom of God
Acts 1:3
“After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.”
Life is full of suffering that none of us wants to deal with. Headaches and suffering often come from tragedies such as the 2016 historic flood in Louisiana. Most of these disasters come suddenly without any warnings, likes a “thief” in the night, when we do not have time to prepare for them. Facing these natural disasters, we as human feel so small and weak, and may wonder about the purpose of life? Standing and looking at mountains of trash as the result of the flood destruction, I wonder myself – “Is that all for life?” At least one of the lessons we can learn in all disasters is to re-evaluate our life priority of what is really important.
If you ask Jesus Christ then His answer for pursuing life priority is the “Kingdom of God (KOG).” Jesus came to this lost world more than 2,000 years ago with the two main purposes: 1) To preach about the KOG, and 2) To provide a “Way” for anyone wanting to come in. This is His priority because the KOG is the “possession” that is eternal, and the true purpose for us on why we are created.
In order to understand Jesus’ priority, we need to have some basic beliefs that are governed by our conscience inside. The two most basic beliefs are: First, there is a great Creator Who in the beginning has begun life and time. Is there anything self-created; so there must a great Creator Who started everything from nothing in the beginning? Genesis 1:1 is the most fundamental belief to answer the most important question about life’s origin - “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” This verse does not prove the origin of God, but to declare of a great Creator called “God” (Elohim) Who created everything from the beginning. Secondly, as human, we have the spiritual dimension that eyes cannot see. There is a clear distinction that human has a spiritual dimension, because we search for the mystery of life, and question about “eternity,” that you never see any animals gathering together to discuss this.
The bottom-line question is always Who has the power and wisdom to answer all of these questions about creation, spiritual life, and eternity? Many have came and said that they have the answers. I name the few: Buddha, Mohammad, Joseph Smith, Tao… What’s about Jesus Christ? What would be His answers if you want to know? If you really want to know about Jesus and His answers, you must remember two basic points: First, what did Jesus claim about Himself that others never said? and secondly, why did He come to this earth? Jesus declared something about Himself that no one on this earth ever said. In John 10:30 He said – “I and the Father are one.” For this reason, the Jews tried to find opportunities to kill Jesus, because of the sin of blasphemy to call Himself equal to God. What does it really mean when Jesus said: “I and the Father are one?” What Jesus meant was that He is the great Creator in the flesh, the Son of God. Anyone of us can claim what Jesus did but where the facts to prove our claims is a different story. What did Jesus do to prove what He has claimed?
1) His virgin birth that the world celebrates Christmas every year. His root was not from Adam & Eve. In John 8:23, Jesus claimed - “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world;”
2) His miracles above all kinds of sicknesses, nature, demon-possed, and raising the dead to life;
3) His power to forgive sins that only God can do, because only God is perfect and sinless;
4) His resurrection after buried in the tomb for three days because the eternal God Himself cannot die.
I believe that the great Creator gives human not just the conscience to know the truth, but also wisdom to discern the truth. Can you discern that there is no one in the history of mankind that has such claims and works as Jesus Christ? You may have to answer it yourself; I did mine and found Jesus is the truth and that’s why I gave my life to Him.
Why did Jesus come to this earth? Just as an athlete enters an Olympic race, his/her goal is the gold medal; when Jesus entered this world, His focus is to preach the kingdom of God, and provide a way for anyone wanting to go there.
a) When Jesus started His ministry, He began to preach about the KOG, as recorded in Matthew 4:17 – “From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near;”
b) The sermons on the Mount in Matthew 5:3 Jesus preached about the KOG – “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven;”
c) His invitation to the crowd focused all about the KOG priority, as in Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well;”
d) The majority of His teaching parables were about the KOG, starting with the phrase “The kingdom of heaven is liked…”
e) Even after resurrected from the death and appeared to His disciples in 40 days, Jesus talked about the KOG as in Acts 1:3.
Why is KOG so important? Because there is an alternate destination that you do not want to go there, it is called hell. Jesus also taught about this destination as a lake of fire, killing both soul and body of a person, eternal suffering and separation from God and His mercy, and the eternal darkness that has no second chance to escape. God created human in the beginning was NOT for this purpose to perish eternally in hell; But to live in God’s house and His presence forever. It sounds good, but how can we get to the KOG when God is holy and we are sinners? God is perfect and sinless, so the basic condition for those who wants to live in His kingdom must also be perfect. If that is the requirement then I am sorry to say that none of us can go there, because “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Remember “perfectness” of God is not about doing more good deeds to cover up for the bad ones, but is “sinless” liked never commit a sin at all. How can I then get to heaven? Remember that Jesus came not just to preach about the KOG, but He is also “the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes through the Father (entering the KOG) without Him.” How did Jesus do it that makes us becoming “perfect” and accepted by God? Through His sinless blood from the cross, Jesus can wash away all our sins, making us “perfect” before the Father.
There are other truths that you also need to know. It’s NOT automatic for everyone to enter the KOG; each of us must make our own choice; just as we make our own choice to sin against Him. I cannot make the decision for you; I only can make for myself. Let’s say FEMA visits you to do a flood assessment and wrote a check 20k$ with your name on it. Now you have a choice? You either reject the check or accept it? The money only belongs to you if you receive the check and deposit to your bank account. I want to accept it for you – but I can’t; the check does not have my name. Also, the chance to believe in Jesus to enter the KOG is not always available; you have to receive the KOG by faith in Jesus before your last breath. Since no one can be sure about “tomorrow,” the best time to trust Christ and secure your place in the KOG is right now.
