(Ask, Seek and Knock)
Mathiơ 7:7
“Hãy xin, sẽ được; hãy tìm, sẽ gặp; hãy gõ cửa, sẽ mở cho.”
(“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”)
I. Ask
> Today is a very special Sunday because it’s also a New Year day. (Hôm nay là ngày Chúa Nhật rất đặc biệt vì cũng là đầu của một năm mới, Tết Tây.)
> Don’t you know that New Year on Sunday January 1st only happens every 6-7 year-cycle. The next New Year on Sunday January 1st will be in 2023. (Quí vị có biết là mùng 1 tháng Giêng đầu năm mới xảy ra vào ngày Chúa Nhật chỉ có mỗi 6-7 năm một lần không? Kỳ tới tháng Giêng mùng một đầu năm Chúa Nhật sẽ xảy ra vào năm 2023.)
> New Year is here, and it brings us happiness, as you can see people all over the world celebrate with fire crackers, firework shows, parties, and wish each other with blessings of weath, heath (losing weight), prosperity throughout the year; especially we as American citizens now have a new president who promises to make America great again. (Năm mới đã đến đem theo nhiều sự vui vẻ cho mọi người; ai nấy nhộn nhịp bắn pháo bông và chúc nhau luôn được khỏe mạnh (xuống cân), giàu sang, thịnh vương trong suốt năm nay; nhất là ở Mỹ c/ta có một vị tổng thống mới có hứa là sẽ tạo dựng nước Mỹ trở nên hùng mạnh lại.)
> Our Vietnamese (and probably Cambodia people) also have similar customs of wishing each other with all kinds of blessings in New year. (Đối với người Việt hay kể cả dân tộc Cambốt thì thường cũng có phong tục chúc phước nhau vào đầu năm.)
> One of the common wishings we give to each other is “You will receive all of what you have asked for throughout the year.” (Một trong những lời chúc thông thường nhất thường là “vạn sự như ý” nghĩa là “muốn gì thì được nấy” trong năm mới này.)
> Don’t you know that our great God also promises that kind of blessing to us in Matthew 7:7 through the words of Jesus, our Lord – “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Quí vị có biết Đức Chúa Trời giàu có và quyền năng cũng hứa ban cho c/ta phước giống như vậy không, qua chính môi miệng của Chúa Giê-xu trong Mathiơ 7:7 – “Hãy xin, sẽ được; hãy tìm, sẽ gặp; hãy gõ cửa, sẽ mở cho.”)
> So, what would you ask God for this New Year 2017? (Như vậy, bạn có sẽ xin Chúa điều gì trong năm mới này không?)
> Have you taken the time to really think about your needs and asked God for them because of His promise? (Ban có đã để thì giờ cẩn thận suy nghĩ những điều bạn cần, và xin Chúa cho không, bởi vì lời Ngài đã hứa?)
> There are two main reasons why we don’t have the blessings: (Có 2 lý do chính tại sao c/ta chưa được điều mình xin:)
# James 4:2-3 list these 2 reasons: “You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” (Trong Giacơ 4:2-3 có chép – “Anh em tham muốn mà chẳng được chi; anh em giết người và ghen ghét mà chẳng được việc gì hết; anh em có sự tranh cạnh và chiến đấu; anh em chẳng được chi, vì không cầu xin. Anh em cầu xin mà không nhận lãnh được, vì cầu xin trái lẽ, để dùng trong tư dục mình.”)
1) First, you do not have because you do not ask God for it. (Thứ nhất, bạn chưa được gì hết là vì bạn chưa dám xin.)
a) There are so many blessings we have missed because we didn’t care to ask God for. (Thiết nghĩ rằng có rất nhiều phước lành Chúa muốn ban cho con cái của Ngài, nhưng c/ta chưa được là vì chưa thèm xin.)
# A parable about a man who was carried to heaven and walked with Peter on the street of gold; He saw a large skyscapper building on the side of the road. Peter let him into the building and saw countless rooms with many shelves full of presents already wrapped with names on each of them. The man asked whom these presents belong to? Peter answered - these are blessings that God wants to pour down to the earth upon His children, but they have not yet asked for them. (Câu chuyện ngụ ngôn của một người đàn ông chết được lên thiên đàng đi bộ với Phiêrơ trên con đường lót bằng vàng. Anh thấy bên đường có một nhà lầu to lớn cao ngất trời thì thắc mắc hỏi. Phiêrơ cho anh vào nhà trọc trời này xem, trong đó có vô số những căn phòng đầy đẫy những kệ có chứa đủ thứ những món quà đã gói sẵn và gắn tên kỹ càng. Anh thắc mắc hỏi Phiêrơ những món quà này của ai mà nhiều vậy? Phiêrơ trả lời: “Đây là những món quà Chúa muốn ban xuống dưới đất cho con cái Ngài, nhưng là vì họ chưa xin mà thôi.”)
> The reason many people do not ask God because they already have all their needs, so they say to themselves – “why do I need God’s help for?” (Lý do khác nhiều người chưa chịu xin vì không thấy cần chi hết; Nếu tôi có đủ tất cả trên đời này thì tôi cần Chúa chi nữa.)
> This is a dangerous illusion that many people, especially those who are living in a rich and comfortable lifestyle, are no longer depending on God, because they have everything needed. (Đây là một ảo tượng mà nhiều người dễ bị rớt vào, tự nghĩ mình có thể điều khiển cuộc đời mình với tất cả những khả năng, học thức, của cải mình thâu nhặt được, thì đâu có cần lệ thuộc vào Chúa nữa mà cầu xin điều chi.)
# Prosperity is liked a “sword with two blades;” it can bless your life, but at the same time it can lure you to a life attitude of atheist or worshipping of many idols, and the biggest idol is yourself. (Sự giàu sang sản nghiệp ở đời này giống như con dao hai lưỡi, nó có thể đem phước hạnh đến cho đời sống của c/ta; nhưng nó cũng có thể dẫn c/ta đến một thái độ sống vô thần, không cần Chúa nữa mà đi thờ lạy nhiều tà thần khác, và tà thần lớn nhất là tư dục xác thịt của mình.)
i) Look at the history of God’s people, after the Israelites became strong, prosperous, and independent in the Promised land, they forgot God and followed after many foreign idols and made God angry. (Hãy xem chính dân sự của Chúa, sau khi họ được vào đất hứa, được độc lập, hùng mạnh với sản nghiệp đất đai thì lại quên Chúa, đi theo các tà thần của xứ mà thờ lạy chúng, chọc giận Đức Chúa Trời.)
ii) Don’t be surprised that the same history appears to repeat in America today, when many people begin to Edging God Out (EGO) because they become so comfotatble with what they have accomplished that they do not need God anymore in school, in government, and in public life. (Cũng đừng ngạc nhiên ngay tại Mỹ đây, lịch sử cũng sẽ tái diễn khi nhiều người trở nên giàu có, sung sướng thì lại bắt đầu muốn đẩn Chúa ra khỏi cuộc sống này, ra khỏi trường học, chính quyền và xã hội.)
iii) Jesus has even warned about this “atheist and worldly” attitude to the church in Laodicea in Revelation 3:17 – “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.” (Chính Chúa Giê-xu cũng có lời cảnh cáo hội thánh Laođicê trong Khải Huyền 3:17 về thái độ vô thần này – “Vả, ngươi nói: Ta giàu, ta nên giàu có rồi, không cần chi nữa; song ngươi không biết rằng mình khổ sở, khốn khó, nghèo ngặt, đui mù và lõa lồ.”)
> The church of Jesus Christ must be very careful NOT to be prideful of her accomplishments to the point of “I do not need a thing,” and forget to give God all the glory. (Hội thánh Chúa phải cẩn thận chớ có tự kiêu với những thành quả của mình, mà dẫn đến thái độ “không cần chi nữa,” và quên không đem mọi vinh hiển đến cho Chúa.)
2) The second reason you do not have what you have asked for because you have asked with the wrong motive, only for your own pleasures. (Lý do thứ hai c/ta không được điều mình xin, vì c/ta xin trái lẽ, chỉ theo tư dục của mình.)
> Our basic human nature if full of greed and hostile, our asking will tend to focus on self-pleasures and destruction, and not of God. (Bản chất căn bản của loài người là xấu, hung dữ và đầy sự tham lam, không nhiều thí ít, cho nên sụ cầu xin của c/ta thường nhắm đến tư dục xác thịt hơn là ý muốn của Chúa.)
# Story of 2 Christians open business next to each other, but one day they got into a big fight. (Câu chuyện về 2 người tín đồ làm thương mại mở tiệm bên cạnh nhau, nhưng một ngày nọ họ cãi lộn tranh chấp nhau dữ tợn.)
> An angel appeared and tried to reconcile both with a promise that each of them will have a wish, with one condition – whatever the first one wishes, the second person will have it doubled. (Một thiên sứ hiện ra và muốn làm cho 2 người hòa lại, bằng cách ban cho mỗi người một ước mơ, muốn gì được nấy, với điều kiện ai xin trước điều gì thì người kia được gấp đôi phần.)
> One man thought for few seconds then said: “I want to loose one eye.” (Một người suy nghĩ thật lâu rồi nói: “Xin thiên sứ cho tôi bị chột một con mắt.”)
# Look at the condition of the world today, and you can see the motive and desires of many evil men; if God allows them to have all the powers they have asked for then who can survive? (Hãy nhìn thế giới ngày nay thì thấy ắc tâm ở trong biết bao nhiêu người; Nếu Chúa mà cho họ quyền phép trong tay thì chắc chẳng có ai còn sống sót.)
II. Seek
> So how do I know what to ask for in order to receive? (Như vậy thì làm sao tôi biết được điều mình nên cầu xin để nhận lãnh?)
> You must seek God to know what you should ask for. (Bước thứ hai, bạn phải tìm kiếm Chúa để có sự khôn ngoan mà biết điều mình phải xin.)
> The verb “seek” expresses a desire to search for Someone you trust, who will give you what you ask for. (Động từ “tìm” diễn ý của sự quyết tâm ao ước đi kiếm cho được một Đấng, mà bạn tin cậy sẽ ban cho mình điều mình cầu xin.)
> In another word, to receive from God what you ask for, you must seek Him with faith. (Hay nói cách khác, bạn muốn Chúa ban cho bạn điều mình xin, bạn phải tìm kiếm Ngài bằng đức tin.)
# James 1:5-7 – “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” (Sự tìm kiếm với lòng tin cậy thì mới nhận được, như trong Giacơ 1:5-7 có chép – “Ví bằng trong anh em có kẻ kém khôn ngoan, hãy cầu xin Đức Chúa Trời, là Đấng ban cho mọi người cách rộng rãi, không trách móc ai, thì kẻ ấy sẽ được ban cho. Nhưng phải lấy đức tin mà cầu xin, chớ nghi ngờ; vì kẻ hay nghi ngờ giống như sóng biển, bị gió động và đưa đi đây đi đó. Người như thế chớ nên tưởng mình lãnh được vật chi từ nơi Chúa:”)
> First, faith must have the Object in a Person that we know about. That Person is God the Almighty. (Thứ nhất, đức tin phải có một đối tượng, “Nguồn” tiếp trợ mà mình nhờ cậy và tin rằng Ngài có thể ban cho mình điều mình xin. Đấng đó chính là Đức Chúa Trời quyền năng.)
> What do you know about God… that makes you dare to ask Him for a blessing? (Bạn biết gì về Chúa để mà dám xin Ngài không?)
a) God is good! As the song our children often sing – “God is so good!” (Chúa là Đấng tốt lành, như bài hát các em thiếu nhi hay hát “God is so good!”)
> God is good that’s why He created us in His own image. (Chúa tốt lành vì Ngài dựng nên loài người giống hình ảnh của Ngài.)
> God is good that’s why He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins. (Chúa tốt lành vì Ngài sai Con một của mình đến thế gian chịu chết chuộc tội thay thế cho mỗi người c/ta.)
> God is good that’s why He promised a kingdom of heaven for all who believe in His Son without any condition. (Chúa tốt lành vì Ngài hứa ban cho mỗi kẻ tin được nước thiên đàng của Ngài một ngày mà không đòi một gía nào phải trả.)
b) God is almighty above all gods means that He knows all the details of our life needs, as a loving Father who loves and cares for all His sons and daughters. (Chúa là Cha Thiên Thượng quyền năng, trên tất cả mọi thần – Ngài biết rõ mỗi nhu cầu chi tiết của đời sống c/ta, điều gì tốt nhất cho c/ta, và biết rõ khi nào c/ta cần, kể cả trước khi c/ta xin.)
# Matthew 6:8 – “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (… như có chép trong Mathiơ 6:8 – “Vậy, các ngươi đừng như họ; vì Cha các ngươi biết các ngươi cần sự gì trước khi chưa xin Ngài.”)
# A kid before dinner time asks his mom for candy and ice cream, but she gives him brocolli and bread instead; The boy may feel unloved, but his mom knows what best for him, more than what the kid wants. (Một đứa bé trước bữa cơm chiều đòi má nó cho ăn kẹo và càrem, nhưng bà lại cho nó ăn cơm và rau; thằng bé cảm thấy má nó không thương nó, nhưng má nó biết rõ nhu cầu nó cần hơn là những điều nó muốn.)
3) God is faithful; He will keep His promises even when we don’t, because God cannot lie. (Chúa là Đấng thành tín, Ngài sẽ luôn giữ lời hứa kể cả lúc c/ta thất hứa, vì Chúa không thể nói dối được.)
> Didn’t God promise a Savior and that’s why we have Christmas? (Có phải Chúa đã hứa ban cho một Đấng Cứu Thế, và bởi vì đó mà c/ta mừng đại lễ Chúa Giáng Sinh?)
# In 1 John 5:14-15 there is a beautiful promise from God – “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” (Trong 1 Giăng 5:14-15 có lời hứa của Chúa – “Nầy là điều chúng ta dạn dĩ ở trước mặt Chúa, nếu chúng ta theo ý muốn Ngài mà cầu xin việc gì, thì Ngài nghe chúng ta. Nếu chúng ta biết không cứ mình xin điều gì, Ngài cũng nghe chúng ta, thì chúng ta biết mình đã nhận lãnh điều mình xin Ngài.”)
> As you seek God with faith, knowing His characters and His wills, you will know what to ask for, and surely you will receive them, “and all other things will be given to you as well.” (Khi c/ta tìm kiếm Chúa với đức tin, nhận biết những thần tánh của Chúa và ý Ngài, thì điều c/ta cầu xin Chúa chắc chắn sẽ được, và Ngài sẽ cho thêm c/ta mọi điều khác nữa.”)
# Even more than that, Jesus gave us His Holy Spirit to help us in knowing what to ask according to God’s will as said in Romans 8:26-27 – “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” (Hơn nữa, Chúa Giê-xu đã ban cho Thánh Linh ở trong mỗi kẻ tin để giúp đỡ c/ta biết cầu xin những điều theo ý Chúa như có chép trong Rôma 8:26-27 – “Cũng một lẽ ấy, Đức Thánh Linh giúp cho sự yếu đuối chúng ta. Vì chúng ta chẳng biết sự mình phải xin đặng cầu nguyện cho xứng đáng; nhưng chính Đức Thánh Linh lấy sự thở than không thể nói ra được mà cầu khẩn thay cho chúng ta. Đấng dò xét lòng người hiểu biết ý tưởng của Thánh Linh là thể nào, vì ấy là theo ý Đức Chúa Trời mà Ngài cầu thế cho các thánh đồ vậy.”)
> So, take the command of the apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:18 – “Don’t be drunk with wine, which will ruin your life, but be filled with the Spirit, (be under His control)” to know what you should ask for in 2017. (Như vậy, c/ta hãy lắng nghe mạng lệnh của sứ đồ Phaolô có chép trong Êphêsô 5:18 – “Đừng say rượu, vì rượu xui cho luông tuồng; nhưng phải đầy dẫy Đức Thánh Linh (để Ngài điều khiển cuộc sống mình” hầu cho c/ta biết được điều mình phải cầu xin theo ý Chúa mà sẽ nhận được.)
III. Knock
> Not just ask, and seek God with faith, but there are times you have to knock to receive of what you ask for. (Không chỉ xin và tìm Chúa với đức tin mà thôi; nhưng có những lúc c/ta phải kiên nhẫn “gõ” cửa, nài xin Ngài luôn cho đến khi nhận được.)
> “Knock” is an action that expresses a present participate. (Động từ “gõ” ở đây trong trạng thái dự phần ngay.)
1) There are times we will not receive what we have asked for until we participate of doing our parts. (Có những lúc c/ta sẽ không nhận được phước cho đến khi c/ta làm phần của mình.)
> I believe that every church members want the church to grow, to expand, to flourish; but how many people are willing to give in some effort and time to help making it matured and strong? (Tôi tin rằng ai là con cái Chúa cũng mong hội thánh của Ngài được phát triển, tấn tới; nhưng có bao nhiều người sẽ sẵn sàng hy sinh phần của mình và thời gian để giúp hội được lớn lên?)
> In 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 – Paul said “I planted the seed and Apollos watered it. But God is the one who made the seed grow. So the one who plants is not important, and the one who waters is not important. Only God is important, because he is the one who makes things grow.” (Trong 1 Côrinhtô 3:6-7 sứ đồ Phaolô nói: “Tôi đã trồng, A-bô-lô đã tưới, nhưng Đức Chúa Trời đã làm cho lớn lên. Vậy, người trồng kẻ tưới, đều không ra gì, song Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng làm cho lớn lên.”)
# We as members of VHBC want God’s church to grow, but is each of us willing to do the “knocking” works of planting and watering? Là hội viên của hội thánh Chúa ở đây, chắc rằng ai cũng muốn hội thánh phát triển, lớn lên; nhưng mỗi người c/ta có nhận biết và làm phần “trồng và tưới” của mình không?)
> The effort we are just here every Sunday to worship is not as important as the effort AFTER the worship when we leave this place and “what we should do, how we should live” with what we have heard, so that the church of God can grow and God be glorified? (Sự cố gắng của mỗi người c/ta đến nhóm thờ phượng mỗi Chúa Nhật không quan trọng bằng sự cố gắng của c/ta sau buổi thờ phượng c/ta ra về sẽ làm gì, sống như thế nào với những gì c/ta đã nghe để hội thánh Chúa được tăng trưởng và Chúa được vinh hiển.)
> How much of my effort each day in 2017 involving in sharing the Goodnews (planting) and caring for the church people (watering) will define the growth of VHBC. (Công khó của mỗi người c/ta trong năm 2017 để chia xẻ tin lành và chăm sóc nhau như thế nào là một yếu tố quan trọng thì sẽ định sự lớn lên của VHBC?)
# A survey done at VHBC with a question – “If you ask God to give this church one thing in 2017, what would that be?” (Một thống kê vừa làm với câu hỏi: “Nếu bạn xin Chúa ban cho VHBC một điều trong năm 2017, thì điều bạn xin đó sẽ là gì?)
> Here are some of the answers: (Đây là những uớc vọng của một số con cái Chúa:)
a) A passion to serve one another (Một tâm tình nóng cháy hầu hạ nhau)
b) A dedicated youth pastor (vị mục sư cho thanh thiếu niên)
c) A faithful youth leader (người lãnh đạo hết tâm tình cho các bạn trẻ)
d) A musical director to lead and motivate talented children & youths in playing musical intruments and leading singing (người lãnh đạo nhạc lý hướng dẫn các con em, bạn trẻ xử dụng năng khiếu nhạc lý để hướng dẫn ca ngợi)
e) A unified church (một hội thánh hòa thuận và hiệp nhất)
f) More prayer warriors (thêm các chiến sĩ anh dũng cầu nguyện)
g) Increase in the knowledge of God’s words and wills; and commit to follow through/obey (Con cái Chúa thêm sự hiểu biết lời Chúa và ý Ngài, cùng quyết tâm vâng lời sống làm theo y như vậy)
h) More Christians become true disciples of Jesus (Nhiều người cơ đốc trở nên môn đồ thật của Đấng Christ)
i) The power and boldness to witness for Jesus Christ (Quyền phép và sự dạn dĩ làm chứng đạo tràn đầy trên con cái Chúa, mỗi người)
j) God raises more leaders to care for church ministries (Chúa ban thêm người lãnh đạo đứng lên nhận trách nhiệm của những mục vụ cần thiết)
> All of these are very nice wishes, but the question is - how much effort each of us is willing to commit in making all of these requests come true in 2017? (Tất cả đây là những ước vọng tốt cho VHBC, nhưng mỗi người c/ta có sẽ sự cố gắng và cam kết như thế nào để mọi điều cầu xin thành sự thật?)
a) Let’s say that we want VHBC has a unity, and how much effort are we willing to control our mouth, not gossiping one another in 2017? (Chẳng hạn như c/ta thật muốn hội thánh được hòa thuận, yên vui, thì mỗi người c/ta có sẽ cam kết giữ gìn miệng lưỡi của mình, không nói xấu nhau không trong năm nay?)
b) You want to increase in the knowledge of God’s words, but how much effort are you willing to have daily devotions, attending Sunday School and worship each week on time? (Chẳng hạn như anh chị em muốn tăng trưởng sự hiểu biết lời Chúa hơn trong năm 2017 thì sẽ cam kết gì trong việc tĩnh tâm học lời Chúa mỗi ngày, đi học Kinh Thánh và nhóm thờ phượng trọn buổi sáng Chúa Nhật.)
c) You want VHBC to have an associate pastor, a youth leader, and a musical director; but how much time do you beg God for these leadership each day? (C/ta muốn có những lãnh đạo mới cho hội thánh, cho các bạn trẻ, cho việc hướng dẫn ca ngợi; nhưng c/ta có đang nài xin Chúa mỗi ngày không?)
> It will cost more financial to support these leaders, are you willing to share in the costs? (Để có được những lãnh đạo này, hội thánh sẽ cần thêm tài chánh, c/ta có sẽ sẵn sàng dâng hiến trọn đủ phần 10 và hơn nữa không?)
d) You want to see more Christians becoming Jesus’ disciples; but how much effort you have to encourage and mentor the new Christians, even your own kids at home? (C/ta muốn nhiều người tín hữu trở nên tín đồ của Chúa Giê-xu; nhưng mỗi người có sẽ bằng lòng cam kết khích lệ nhau, dạy dỗ lời Chúa với nhau, làm gương cho nhau không?)
e) You want to church to expand and be strong, but what was the last time you invite someone to church, to pass out a Christian tract and guide someone to Jesus? (Nếu c/ta muốn hội thánh phát triển trong năm nay, thêm người vào hội thánh, đâu là lần cuối c/ta đã cố gắng mới những người khách đến nhà thờ nghe giảng đạo?)
2) The last thing to remember about “knock” is that it is a progressive tense (developing gradually), this means you just keep on knocking until the door is opened. (Điều cuối cùng về sự “gõ” mà c/ta cần biết đó là động từ này nói lên một thể liên tục, quí vị phải cứ gõ cho đến khi cửa mở.)
# There were times I came over my dad’s house to look for him and my mom and no one opened the door. I was worry, and I just didn’t ring the bell or knock once, I knocked the door several times louder and louder, I went to the window and kept knocking until he came to open the door. (Có nhiều lần khi đến thăm ông bà cụ, bấm chuông hoài mà không ai ra mở cửa làm tôi rất lo. Tôi phải gõ cửa trước, gõ cửa sổ, càng ngày càng gõ lớn hơn, cho đến khi ông cụ nghe và ra mở cửa cho.)
> Don’t give up if you asked for one time and didn’t get it; Keep knocking until the door is opened. (Đừng bỏ cuộc khi bạn xin Chúa một lần mà không được; cứ hãy gõ cho đến khi cửa mở cho mình.)

# Because she really wants to see justice be done against her adversary. (Vì bà thật muốn được xét lẽ công bình của mình với kẻ nghịch cùng người.)
> With a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought had done it, would our loving Father do more for us? (Nếu một quan tòa không kính sợ Chúa mà còn làm, thì huống gì Cha yêu thương của c/ta sẽ làm ít hơn sao?)
> Do you really really really want all the wishes to come true for VHBC in 2017? (Quí vị có thật muốn mọi điều ước mơ sẽ xảy ra cho VHBC trong năm 2017 không?)
> Then just “Ask God and they will be given to you; seek Him with faith, do not doubt and He will grant them to you; keep on knocking until God opens the opportunities for you,” And then you will know God is good, God is almighty, and God is faithfull. Amen! (Hãy cứ xin thì sẽ được; hãy lấy đức tin mà hết lòng tìm cầu Chúa thì sẽ gặp; hãy cứ luôn gõ cửa, thì cơ hội sẽ mở ra cho c/ta,” để rồi c/ta thật biết được Chúa là Đấng tốt lành, Đấng quyền năng, và là Đấng Thành Tín luôn giữ lời Ngài hứa ban cho c/ta, cho VHBC. > Will your wishes come true?
> I know one of the wishes will always come true if you ask God for it, seek Him will all your heart and keep on knocking at His door.
> But you first need to know Him to not asking for anything outside of His good will.
# God is good, God is almighty, and God is faithful.
> God knows the best for your life.
> Also remember many of our wishes will only come true with our participation.
> We must do our parts of planting and watering.
> The problem is not whether God will not answer our prayers; the problem is our commitment to ask, seek Him and knocking until the door is opened.

Ask, Seek and Knock
Matthew 7:7
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Today is a very special Sunday because it’s also a New Year day. New Year brings us happiness as people all over the world celebrate with firework shows, parties, and wish each other with blessings of wealth, heath, and prosperity; especially Americans now have a new president who promises to make America great again. One of the common wishing we give to each other is “You will receive all of what you have asked for throughout the year.” Don’t you know that our Lord Jesus also promises that kind of blessing to us in Matthew 7:7– “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” So, what would you ask God for this New Year 2017?
James 4:2-3 list two main reasons why we don’t have the blessings - “You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” First, you do not have because you do not ask God for it. The reason many people do not ask God because they already have all their needs, so they say to themselves – “why do I need God’s help for?” This is a dangerous illusion that many people, especially those who are living in a rich and comfortable lifestyle, are no longer depending on God, because they have everything needed. Look at the history of God’s people, after the Israelites became strong, prosperous, and independent in the Promised Land, they forgot God and followed after many foreign idols. Don’t be surprised that the same history appears to repeat in America today, when many people become so comfortable with what they have accomplished that they begin to Edging God Out (EGO) in school, in government, and in public life. Jesus even warned about this “atheist and worldly” attitude to the church in Laodicea in Revelation 3:17 – “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.” The second reason you do not have what you have asked for because you have asked with the wrong motive, only for your own pleasures. Look at the condition of the world today, and you can see the motive and desires of many evil men; if God allows them to have all the powers then who can survive?
So how do I know what to ask for to receive? You must seek God to know what you should ask for. The verb “seek” expresses a desire to search for Someone you trust, who will give you what you ask for. In another word, to receive anything from God, you must seek Him with faith. First, faith must have the Object in a Person that we know about. That Person is God the Almighty. What do you know about God that makes you dare to ask Him for a blessing? God is good! God is good that’s why He created us in His own image. God is good that’s why He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins. God is good that’s why He promised a kingdom of heaven for all who believe in His Son without any condition. God is almighty means that He knows all the details of our life needs, as a loving Father who loves and cares for all His sons and daughters, even before they ask Him. God is faithful that He will keep His promises even when we don’t, because God cannot lie. Didn’t God promise a Savior and that’s why we have Christmas? As you seek God with faith, knowing His characters and His wills, you will know what to ask for, and surely you will receive them, “and all other things will be given to you as well.” Even more than that, Jesus gave us His Holy Spirit to help us in knowing what to ask according to God’s will as said in Romans 8:26-27 – “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” So, our life should not “be drunk with wine, which will ruin our life, but be filled with the Spirit,” (be under His control) in 2017 as the apostle Paul taught in Ephesians 5:18.
Not just ask, and seek God with faith, but there are times we have to knock to receive of what we ask for. “Knock” is an action that expresses a present participate. There are times we will not receive what we have asked for until we participate of doing our parts. I believe that every church members want the church to grow, to expand, to flourish; but how many people are willing to sacrifice some effort and time to help making it matured and strong? In 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 – Paul said - “I planted the seed and Apollos watered it. But God is the one who made the seed grow. So the one who plants is not important, and the one who waters is not important. Only God is important, because he is the one who makes things grow.” As members of VHBC, we all want God’s church to grow, but is each of us willing to do the “knocking” works of planting and watering? The effort we are just here every Sunday to worship is not as important as the effort AFTER the worship when we leave this place and “what should we do, how should we live” with what we have heard, so that the church of God can grow and God be glorified? The last thing to remember about “knock” is that it is a progressive tense, this means you just keep on knocking until the door is opened. Don’t give up if you asked for one time and didn’t get it; keep on knocking until the door is opened.
