Siêng Năng Hầu Việc Chúa
(Rôma 12:11)
Serve the Lord with All our Heart
“Hãy siêng năng mà chớ làm biếng; phải có lòng sốt sắng; phải hầu việc Chúa.”
(Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.)
I. Changing
> Those who are truly saved by the grace of God in Christ Jesus… must soon or later experience some transformation. (Những ai thật sự đã được Chúa cứu thì trước hay sau cũng phải kinh nghiệm sự biến hóa trong đời sống cá nhân của mình.)
> This can be a slow process, but continuous changes of our mind, our heart, our attitude, our will, and our behavior must be experienced. (Đây là một tiến trình có khi chậm chạp, nhưng ý tưởng, tấm lòng, thái độ sống của c/ta phải được thay đổi dần.)
> One change for sure is the acknowledge that “I am no longer in charge of my life,” because now I have a new Owner – Who is Jesus Christ. (Một điều chắc chắn phải thay đổi là sự nhận biết “cái tôi” của mình không còn làm chủ mình nữa, nhưng là Cứu Chúa Giê-xu.)
> The apostle Paul described this transformation perfectly in Galatians 2:20 – “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live (for myself), but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Trong Galati 2:20 sứ đồ Phaolô diễn tả sự biến hóa này – “Tôi đã bị đóng đinh vào thập tự giá với Đấng Christ, mà tôi sống, không phải là tôi sống (cho tôi) nữa, nhưng Đấng Christ sống trong tôi; nay tôi còn sống trong xác thịt, ấy là tôi sống trong đức tin của Con Đức Chúa Trời, là Đấng đã yêu tôi, và đã phó chính mình Ngài vì tôi.”)
> This means “I” no longer live for myself, but for Jesus Christ. (Đây có nghĩa là tôi không còn sống cho riêng mình nữa, nhưng là cho Cứu Chúa Giê-xu.)
> Everything Paul did from that day after he met Jesus on the road to Damascus to persecute Christians … must be now lined up with the teachings of Jesus, His Master and Lord. (Từ khi gặp Chúa Giê-xu trên con đường đến thành Đamách để bắt bớ các tín đồ, thì cuộc đời của Phaolô đã phải thay đổi sống đi theo những tiêu chuẩn dạy dỗ của lời Ngài.)
> Some changes may be easy for us, because they are beneficial for our life. (Một số những thay đổi từ khi được cứu rỗi thì dễ dàng, vì những điều này đem đến ích lợi cho đời sống của c/ta.)
# You quitted smoking and now your health is improving. (Sau khi tin nhận Chúa Giê-xu, bạn có khí lực để bỏ hút thuốc và nay sức khỏe của bạn được tốt hơn.)
# You begin to treat your wife and children as the Bible teaches, and now your family happiness is flourished. (Bạn bắt đầu đối xử tử tế với vợ con mình y như lời của Chúa dạy, và hạnh phúc gia đình được thêm lên.)
> But some changes can be very difficult because they go against our will of the flesh. (Nhưng sẽ có một số những thay đổi sẽ rất là khó chịu, vì đi ngược với tư dục ham muốn của xác thịt mình.)
# You must get up early on Sunday to go to prayer meeting, and the Bible study that your body resists. (Bạn phải thức dậy sớm mỗi sáng Chúa Nhật đi tỉnh nguyện và học Kinh Thánh mà thân xác mình không thích.)
# You must wake up on Saturday morning to help cleaning up the church, but your flesh rather wants to play video games. (Bạn phải thức dậy sáng thứ Bảy để đến dọn dẹp nhà Chúa, nhưng thân xác thì muốn nngủ trễ và khi thức dậy thì thích chơi video game hơn.)
# You must stop cheating on others in your business deals, and now your income shrinks. (Bạn phải ngừng sự ăn gian lường gạt người khác trong những công việc làm ăn nữa, và bây giờ túi tiền thâu vào bị giảm xuống.)
# Just liked planting a seed, it should naturally grow a shoot, some branches, then leaves and produce good fruits; our new life in Christ must naturally be transformed, constantly changing to reflect the characters of our Master and Lord Jesus Christ. (Giống như trồng một hạt giống xuống đất, nó sẽ phải tự nhiên mọc nụ, ra nhánh, lá và bông trái… thì ai ở trong Đấng Christ với một đời sống mới cũng phải được biến hóa dần luôn, phản ảnh những đặc tánh của Chúa mình.)
# Have you taken a look at yourself lately and see if you are growing more like Jesus? (Bạn có hay tự xét lấy chính mình gần đây không để thấy mình có mỗi ngày càng giống Chúa Giê-xu không?)
> We must be transformed to become the “living Bible” that others surrounding us can “read” and know God. (C/ta phải được biến đổi và trở nên một cuốn sách Kinh Thánh sống để thiên hạ đọc và đến biết Chúa Giê-xu.)
# Someone said – “The New Testament has only one history book, that is the book of Acts, but actually there is another history book which is being written, and you & I are in it. (Có người nói rằng trong Tân Ước chỉ có một sách lịch sử đó là sách Công Vụ, nhưng thật ra một cuốn sách lịch sử nữa đang được chép, và trong đó có tôi và bạn.)
> Our new life now must focus on Jesus, for Him, and to Him for all His glory. (Cuộc sống mới phải chú tâm đến Chúa, sống cho Ngài và để đem mọi sự vinh hiển cho Chúa.)
> Do you understand the teachings of Paul in Romans 6:16-18? “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.” (Bạn có hiểu lời của Phaolô nói trong Rôma 6:16-18 không? “Anh em há chẳng biết rằng nếu anh em đã nộp mình làm tôi mọi đặng vâng phục kẻ nào, thì là tôi mọi của kẻ mình vâng phục, hoặc của tội lỗi đến sự chết, hoặc của sự vâng phục để được nên công bình hay sao? Nhưng, tạ ơn Đức Chúa Trời, vì sau khi anh em làm tôi mọi tội lỗi, thì đã từ lòng vâng phục đạo lý là sự đã ban làm mực thước cho mình! Vậy, anh em đã được buông tha khỏi tội lỗi, trở nên tôi mọi của sự công bình rồi.”)
> In these 3 verses, Paul repeated 5 times the word “slave.” (Chỉ có 3 câu thôi, nhưng có đến 5 lần sứ đồ Phaolô dùng chữ “tôi mọi” để diễn tả cuộc sống mới biến đổi của mỗi người c/ta.)
> Paul said we are now set free to be “slave” for God’s righteousness. (C/ta giờ được cứu để tự nguyện làm tôi mọi cho sự công bình của Chúa.)
> We used to be slaves for sins that would surely ruin our life in hell; but now we are slaves to righteousness that would bring us to the eternal glory with God one day. (Ngày xưa c/ta là tôi mọi cho tội lỗi mà chắc chắn sẽ phá hủy cuộc đời của c/ta trong lửa địa ngục; nhưng bây giờ c/ta làm tôi mọi cho sự công bình, sẽ dẫn c/ta đến sự vinh hiển đời đời của Chúa trong nước thiên đàng một ngày.)
> Our new life is a total submission to God and Jesus. (Cuộc sống mới của c/ta bây giờ phải hòan toàn đầu phục Chúa và Cứu Chúa Giê-xu.)
# Before – “I do as I please,” but now “WWJD – What Would Jesus Do?” (Ngày xưa tôi muốn làm gì thì làm tùy theo ý xác thịt mình muốn, bây giờ tôi phải tự xét coi xem Chúa Giê-xu muốn tôi làm gì?)
# Before – “I say whatever I like to say,” but now “do my words bring glory to God?” (Ngày xưa tôi muốn nói gì thì nói, nhưng bây giờ phải tự xét lời tôi sắp nói có đem sự vinh hiển về cho Chúa không?)
# Before – “I can make any decision as I like,” but now I must open the Bible and see what does it say?” (Ngày xưa tôi muốn quyết định thế nào tùy ý tư dục mình muốn, nhưng bây giờ tôi phải dở Kinh Thánh ra coi xem lời Chúa nói gì về việc này trước khi quyết định.)
II. Serve God
> With the understanding that Jesus is “Lord of my life,” we now must love and serve God with all our heart, our mind, our body and our soul. (Với sự hiểu biết này, nay c/ta phải sống kính mến Chúa và hầu việc Ngài với hết cả tấm lòng, linh hồn và thân xác của mình.)
> In fact, Paul commanded us to serve God in Romans 12:11 – “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Vì đó mà Phaolô dạy trong Rôma 12:11 – “Hãy siêng năng mà chớ làm biếng; phải có lòng sốt sắng; phải hầu việc Chúa.”)
1) We are commanded not to be lazy that is one of the bad habits of the flesh. (Mạng lệnh cho con cái Chúa là chớ lười biếng, vì đây là một cá tánh xấu của tư dục xác thịt, con người cũ.)
# Laziness produces ignorance, indifference, passive, with the attitudes of procrastination or “shifting the blame to someone else,” when God calls us to do His works. (Tánh làm biếng dễ sanh ra thái độ tự mãn, ỷ y, thờ ơ, hờ hững và hay đổ thừa cho người khác, cho hoàn cảnh.)
# Chuyện con mèo lười biếng bị bỏ xuống địa ngục thì nó muốn Chúa cho nó có một “nốt ruồi trắng ở ngay mép?” (a white spot next to its mouth) để chuột tưởng là một hạt cơm tới gần thì con mèo chỉ cần há miệng đớp thôi, khỏi phải chạy bắt chuột?
# If we serve God the same way we do works for our company, I think many of us already get fired? (Có người nói nếu c/ta hầu việc Chúa như là làm việc cho người ta ở ngoài đời thì sau vài tuần là bị đuổi rồi?)
> Do you come to work late and go home early everyday, then why do we do that at church?
> Oh! I know now, because we get paid at work, but working for God, there is no clear benefits and many times more life troubles. (Thôi tôi biết rồi, vì làm việc ở sở c/ta được trả lương, còn việc cho Chúa chẳng có ích lợi chi hết, mà nhiều khi còn mang nợ gánh ách vào thân nữa?)
> We live in this world that offers so many comfort zones, that make us very hard to get up and serve God and others. (C/ta đang sống trong một thế giới mà dễ đưa mình vào nhiều chỗ “thoải mái, an nhàn, tiện nghi,” mà rất khó cho c/ta có thể đứng dậy để hầu việc Chúa và những người khác.)
> Our lifestyle is bounded/enclosed in the worldly culture of materialistic, the American dream, that we become so lazy to chase after the things of God. (Cuộc sống của c/ta bị “đóng khung” vào thế giới của vật chất thì dễ làm cho c/ta trở nên lười biếng trong sự đeo đuổi những điều thiêng liêng thuộc của Chúa.)
# Last Sunday, I and my wife went and heard a testimony from a Baptist missionary family named Nick Ripkens. He shared about a Chinese underground church where he saw the leaders teared out a Bible. (Tối Chúa Nhật tuần trước, tôi và cô Huyền có cơ hội đi nhóm và nghe lời làm chứng của một gia đình truyền giáo tên Nick Ripken; khi qua thăm một Hội Thánh ngầm bên Tàu, ông thấy các người lãnh đạo trong một buổi nhóm thay phiên nhau xé một cuốn sách Kinh Thánh.) He was surprised but later found out that the reason they did that to distribute each book of the Bible to many of their leaders to study and lead their small groups, because they had only one Bible; it was sad for the leaders who had the books of Obadiah, Philemon, 2 John, 3 John and Jude that have only one chapter. (Vài phút sau ông mới khám phá ra lý do họ xé Kinh Thánh ra từng sách một để phát cho những người lãnh đạo các nhóm nhỏ có bổn phận đem về học trước, sau đó dạy cho nhóm của mình, là vì họ chỉ có một cuốn sách Kinh Thánh thôi.) When the American missionary explained to them that churches in America has many Bible with over 10 different Bible versions, leaders in China were just amazed and could not believe it. (Khi nhà truyền giáo Nick giải thích cho những người lãnh đạo này ở bên Mỹ các nhà thờ nhóm lại xử dụng có đến hơn 10 loại cách dịch Kinh Thánh khác nhau, thì những người lãnh đạo này không thể tưởng tượng được.) The Chinese wonder why God loves the Christians in America more than them? (Họ ngạc nhiên và hỏi tại sao Chúa thương những người cơ đốc ở Mỹ hơn là ở bên Tàu?)
> We are living so convenient, so comfort to have as many Bible as we want, any versions we choose to read, not to mention the available of Iphone, but many don’t even care to read, simply because we are lazy? (C/ta sống trong một thế giới quá tiện nghi, quá thoải mái; c/ta muốn có bao nhiêu Kinh Thánh cũng được, bản dịch nào cũng được, chưa kể có máy Iphone để đọc, nhưng c/ta lại không chăm chỉ đọc, hay thèm đọc, là bởi vì c/ta lười biếng?)
2) Our service to God must be pure. (Phải hầu việc với một lương tâm thánh sạch.)
> What does this mean to you? (Đây có nghĩa là sao?)
# Do you remember the parable of Talents in Matthew 25 that Jesus taught? (Bạn có nhớ ẩn dụ “talent” Chúa Giê-xu dạy trong Mathiơ 25 không?)
# A man was going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability, and what did the boss say to his “good stewards” after he returned? (Vả, nước thiên đàng sẽ giống như một người kia, khi đi đường xa, gọi các đầy tớ mà giao của cải mình. Chủ đó cho người nầy năm ta-lâng, người kia hai, người khác một, tùy theo tài mỗi người; đoạn, chủ lên đường; Khi trở về thì người chủ đã khen thưởng gì cho đầy tớ giỏi?)
# v. 21 - “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (c. 21 - Chủ nói với người rằng: Hỡi đầy tớ ngay lành trung tín kia, được lắm; ngươi đã trung tín trong việc nhỏ, ta sẽ lập ngươi coi sóc nhiều; hãy đến hưởng sự vui mừng của chúa ngươi.”
> “Good” means pure; it is the service wholly/exclusively for God, and nothing of the flesh is added. (Ngay lành đây nghĩa là thánh sạch, nghĩa là mọi sự làm vì cho sự vinh hiển của Chúa mà thôi, chứ không cho có ý đồ riêng nào khác cộng vào.)
# In Romans 16:18, the apostle Paul corrected some Christians in the church of Rome – “For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.” (Phaolô có lần cáo trách một số người trong Rôma 16:18 - “vì những kẻ đó chẳng hầu việc Đấng Christ, Chúa chúng ta, song hầu việc cái bụng họ, và lấy những lời ngọt ngào dua nịnh dỗ dành lòng kẻ thật thà,” cho ích lợi riêng của mình mà thôi.)
> Don’t you know each of us will be judged by Jesus one day, and our works will be tested with fire to see if they are pure, as said in 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 - “By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.” (Đừng quên là mỗi người c/ta sẽ một ngày đứng trước mặt Chúa Giê-xu để xét xử mà được phần thưởng, tùy theo những công việc của mình đã làm có ngay lành hay không, như có chép trong 1 Côrinhtô 3:10-15 – “Theo ơn Đức Chúa Trời ban cho tôi, tôi đã lập nên như một tay thợ khéo, mà có kẻ khác cất lên trên; nhưng ai nấy phải cẩn thận về sự mình xây trên nền đó. 11 Vì, chẳng ai có thể lập một nền khác ngoài nền đã lập, là Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ. 12 Nếu có kẻ lấy vàng, bạc, bửu thạch, gỗ, cỏ khô, rơm rạ mà xây trên nền ấy, 13 thì công việc của mỗi người sẽ bày tỏ ra. Ngày đến sẽ tỏ tường công việc đó; nó sẽ trình ra trong lửa, và công việc của mỗi người đáng giá nào, lửa sẽ chỉ ra. 14 Ví bằng công việc của ai xây trên nền được còn lại, thì thợ đó sẽ lãnh phần thưởng mình. 15 Nếu công việc họ bị thiêu hủy, thì mất phần thưởng. Còn về phần người đó, sẽ được cứu, song dường như qua lửa vậy.”
> We will not be judged by the standards or opinions of the person sits next to you, but by the fire of the Holy Spirit who knows all heart and motives. (C/ta sẽ không bị xử xét theo tiêu chuẩn của người ngồi bên cạnh mìnhd đâu, nhưng là “lửa” của Thánh Linh Chúa là Đấng biết rõ mọi lòng.)
> Then would any of our works have anything left for rewards? (Như vậy công việc của mình có còn lại gì… để lãnh phần thưởng không, nếu chưa phải là “ngay lành?”)
> We know our works are good if they are done according to His ways. (C/ta biết công việc của mình ngay lành, nếu làm y theo như đường lối của Chúa đã định trong lời của Ngài.)
# In John 12:26a Jesus said – “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.” (Ai muốn hầu việc Chúa thì phải làm theo điều Chúa dạy, chứ không theo con người nói; như chính Chúa Giê-xu đã phán trong Giăng 12:26a – “Nếu ai hầu việc ta, thì phải theo ta, và ta ở đâu, thì kẻ hầu việc ta cũng sẽ ở đó;”)
> You cannot serve God your ways, just liked the Pharisees in Jesus’ time. (C/ta không thể nào hầu việc Chúa theo lối của riêng mình, như những người Pharasi ngày xưa.)
# They prayed, fasted, gave arms to the poor… just for their own prestige, power, and better seats in the house. (Họ cầu nguyện, kiêng ăn, giúp đỡ kẻ nghèo chỉ để thêm uy tín, danh dự, quyền lực, sự ảnh hưởng mạnh, được chỗ đứng cao, chỗ ngồi tốt cho riêng mình mà thôi.)
> To know His ways, we must learn to know Him, His words, and having a close relationship with God. (Muốn biết đường lối của Chúa, c/ta phải học biết Kinh Thánh, phải biết Chúa càng hơn trong mối liên hệ mật thiết mỗi ngày.)
# I know my wife by just listening to her tone of voice, her facial to know if she is happy or I am about to be in trouble? (Tôi biết rõ vợ mình chỉ nghe dọng nói thôi, hay nhìn gương mặt thì biết cô đang lo lắng, vui vẻ hay là tôi đã làm điều gì sai?)
> How do I know that? By spending a lot of time with her every day. (Tại sao tôi nhạy bén được điều này? Là vì tôi sống chung và để nhiều thì giờ với vợ mình.)
> The same principle is applied for our relationship with Jesus – time to spend in prayer and in His words. (Yếu tố đó cũng áp dụng cho mối liên hệ của c/ta với Chúa Giê-xu, nó đòi hỏi thì giờ c/ta cầu nguyện và học lời Ngài mỗi ngày.)
3) Our service to God must be fervent, never be lacking in zeal. (C/ta phải hầu việc Chúa với lòng nhiệt huyết, hăng hái, cảm xúc say mê.)
# We cannot sing praise to God with a gloomy face, because this is not a funeral home, even though our life faces many challenges and problems, but our God is bigger than all of those troubles. (C/ta không thể nào hát ngợi khen Chúa với gương mặt buồn bã được, vì đây không phải là một nhà tang; mặc dầu trong đời sống của c/ta có nhiều khó khăn trở ngại, nhưng Chúa của c/ta lớn hơn những nan đề này.)
> Fervor means serve God diligently, with intense passion and enthusiasm. (Hầu việc Chúa “siêng năng, sốt sắng” nghĩa là chăm chỉ, làm cẩn thận, kỹ càng từ đầu đến cuối, không bỏ cuộc giữa chừng mà không báo cho ai biết hết, chuẩn bị sẵn sàng, không bảo cũng làm thêm, có người biết hay không khen cũng làm, ít người cũng làm, không có lương cũng làm… bởi vì làm cho Chúa.)
# Do you remember the time you get your first job for the first day? You work hard, and work late to impress your boss? (Bạn có nhớ ngày đầu tiên mình đi làm không? C/ta hăng say, chăm chỉ làm để lấy lòng ông bà chủ, phải không?)
> There was no “NO answer” when the boss asks us to do anything. (C/ta không bao giờ từ chối, chậm trễ, trì hoãn, khi ông bà chủ sai mình làm việc gì đó.)
> That should also be the attitude of serving God. (Đó cũng phải là thái độ c/ta hầu việc Chúa vậy.)
4) We must faithfully serve God in the reverent fear of Him. (Hầu việc Chúa một cách trung tín với sự kính sợ Ngài.)
> Remember the parable of talents again, the second thing that the boss said to his well-done stewards – “good and faithful servants.” (Nhớ ẩn dụ “Talents” không, điều thứ hai người chủ khen đầy tớ tốt của mình là “trung tín.”)
> What does it mean to serve God faithfully? (Hầu việc Chúa trung tín nghĩa là sao?)
# In 2 Timothy 4:2 Paul taught Timothy to be faithful in what? “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.” (Trong 2 Timôthê 4:2, Phaolô khuyên Timôthê hầu việc Chúa trung tín như thế nào? “hãy giảng đạo, cố khuyên, bất luận gặp thời hay không gặp thời, hãy đem lòng rất nhịn nhục mà bẻ trách, nài khuyên, sửa trị, cứ dạy dỗ chẳng thôi.”)
> “In season or out of season” means to keep on preaching and serving until Jesus comes again. (Có thuận thời hay nghịch cảnh vì bị những lời phê bình của những người xung quanh đi nữa, con số ít ỏi đi nữa thì cũng không mệt mỏi trong sự hầu việc Chúa, chứ không có làm cho người ta, cho đến khi Chúa Giê-xu trở lại.)
> In this verse, Paul also mentioned an important ingredient to serve God faithfully is “patience” to endure in serving. (Trong câu Kinh Thánh này, sứ đồ Phaolô cũng nhắc đến một điều cần có để hầu việc Chúa cách trung tín đó là sự chịu nhục, chịu đựng thì mới làm được.)
# At work, do you have a lot of patience with your bosses? Do you always endure your boss’ rebuke? Then the same principle applied, you must be patient in serving God and caring for God’s people. (Ở sở làm, c/ta rất là kiên nhẫn với ông bà chủ? C/ta luôn chịu đựng sự sửa trị của người chủ mình, thì cũng vậy, c/ta phải kiên nhẫn, chịu đựng để có thể hầu việc Chúa và chăm sóc Hội Thánh của Ngài.)

# A young man (pastor) came to the head pastor and wanted to quit. (Có một vị mục sư trẻ đến mục sư trưởng một ngày mà xin từ chức vì con cái Chúa chê trách, than phiền nhiều quá.) The senior pastor asked – Did they spit, beat, mock, and nail Jesus on the cross? And did Jesus quit? So if He didn’t give up, then He will give you the strength not to quit. (Vị mục sư trưỏng sau khi nghe anh bày tỏ tấm lòng xong thì hỏi: “Có phải người ta đã đánh đập Chúa, sỉ nhục Ngài, nhổ nước miếng vào mặt Chúa và rồi đóng đinh Ngài trên cây thập tự không? Nhưng rồi Chúa có đã bỏ cuộc không?”) Get up young man and follow Jesus, and don’t quit. Get back to your church and serve His people. (Như vậy thì anh hãy đứng dậy trở lại chăn bày Hội Thánh của Chúa là bời vì Chúa của anh đã không bỏ cuộc và Ngài sẽ thêm sức cho anh có sức chịu đựng được cho đến cùng.)
# Sometimes I think we pray incorrectly – “Please Lord, heal my brother from that sickness, rescue my sister from that trouble” when God is trying to train His children to have strength and patience to endure, in preparation for us to do a greater task later? (Tôi thiết nghĩ có khi c/ta cầu nguyện không đúng mục đích – “Ôi xin Chúa chữa lành bệnh cho anh chị em con, xin Ngài giải cứu họ ra khỏi sự khó khan này, trong lúc Chúa đang muốn rèn luyện người đó để có sức chịu đựng làm những việc lớn và khó hơn?)
> When President Trump tries to pick & choose those who will work under his cabinet, do you think he would choose the best or the worst? (Thử hỏi khi tổng thống Trump đi tìm những người làm việc cho mình thì kiếm ai, người giỏi nhất hay là dở nhất?)
# Then why can’t you understand that God want us to be the best for Him, although we saved us the way we are; and one of the ways He makes us the best is to put us through a lot of troubles in life, so we know the power of His grace. (Vậy thì sao c/ta không hiểu Chúa muốn c/ta trưởng thành và giỏi nhất, mặc dầu Ngài cứu c/ta không điều kiện, và một cách Ngài giúp c/ta thật giỏi là cho phép những khó khăn xảy đến trong đời sống của mình, để c/ta kinh nghiệm được quyền năng của ân điển Ngài.)
> Paul learned this with his own physical problem to endure the pains to be stronger as in 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 – “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. III. Never Wasted
> Last thing - In 1 Corinthians 15:58 reminds us that our service to God will not be in vain – “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (Điều cuối cùng, sự hầu việc Chúa của c/ta không phải là vô ích đâu, như có chép trong 1 Côrinhtô 15:58 – “Vậy, hỡi anh em yêu dấu của tôi, hãy vững vàng, chớ rúng động, hãy làm công việc Chúa cách dư dật luôn, vì biết rằng công khó của anh em trong Chúa chẳng phải là vô ích đâu.”)
> What does this mean to you and me? (Đây nghĩa là sao?)
# It means our service for God will be rewarded. (Sự hầu việc của c/ta sẽ có phần thưởng đời đời.)
> You may wonder how much? (Được thưởng bao nhiêu?)
# In Matthew 19:28-30 His disciples got some doubts about “is it worth to lose all their possession to follow Jesus,” but Jesus encouraged them – “Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. > It is not wasted to serve God, but 100 folds blessings in the eternal life, you cannot find any investments liked this in this world. (Không có phí công trong sự hầu việc Chúa đâu, nhưng phần thưởng Chúa hứa ban đến gấp 100 lần.)
# There is a beautiful Vietnamese hymn that I hope one day we have the translation for it; the name is a challenging question: “Would you come to meet Jesus your Lord one day with empty hands?” (Trong Thánh Ca tiếng Việt có bài hát với tựa đề là một câu hỏi mà mỗi lần ai hát phải tự xét lấy chính mình: “Một ngày, tôi đến gặp Chúa với tay trắng thôi sao?”)
> I hope the message this morning will challenge each of us to re-arrange our lifestyle to love and to serve God with all our heart, our mind, and our soul, because we don’t want “empty hands” when Jesus returns one day. (Tôi mong rằng sứ điệp sáng nay cảm động lòng và thách thức mỗi người c/ta biết tự xét, điều chỉnh nếp sống của mình, để kính mến và hầu việc Chúa hết lòng, hết sức, hết linh hồn mình, vì c/ta không muốn “tay trắng” khi Chúa Giê-xu trở lại lần nữa tiếp đón c/ta, tiếp đón VHBC.)

> You may say – God’s standards are too high for me. I cannot serve God like that.
> Don’t forget God is above all spirits; He demands our best service with highest standards, for “How Great Thou Art.”
1) We don’t love and serve God with all our heart and mind yet, may be we are far from the cross where the blood once poured down to wash away our sins?
# Do you feel anything when you sang the song “Near the Cross” this morning?
> Our love and gratitude for what God had done for us in Jesus Christ should help us to serve our loving God.
> Jesus gave Himself for us; at least we can serve Him to express our gratitude for His sacrifice.
> We can live for the One Who died for us on the cross!
2) May be you are comparing youself with others, and having excuses not to serve God?
3) May be you still trust yourself to serve and not “I can do all things for Him Who gives me strength?”
4) Are your sins worth more than the eternal rewards in heaven?
> Settle your heart down, think about the message, and make adjustments now.
> Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor in serving the Lord, until He returns to give rewards of your good and faithful works.
> Practice something each week - bring a bulletin with you home every Sunday, put on your desk or place it inside your book, and each day ask yourself – what can I do to care for your church Lord?
Serve the Lord with All our Heart
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”
Those who are truly saved by the grace of God in Christ Jesus must soon or later experience some transformation. One change for sure is the acknowledge that “I am no longer in charge of my life,” because now I have a new Owner – Who is Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul described this transformation perfectly in Galatians 2:20 – “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live (for myself), but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Everything Paul did from that day after he met Jesus on the road to Damascus to persecute Christians must be now lined up with the teachings of Jesus, His Master and Lord. Some changes may be easy for us, because they are beneficial for our life. But some changes can be very difficult because they go against our will of the flesh. We must be transformed to become the “living Bible” that others surrounding us can “read” and know God. Our new life now must focus on Jesus, for Him, and to Him for all His glory.
With that understanding that Jesus is “Lord of my life,” we now must love and serve God with all our heart, our mind, our body and our soul. In fact, Paul commanded us to serve God in Romans 12:11 – “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” We are commanded not to be lazy that is one of the bad habits of the flesh. Laziness produces indifference, passive, with the attitudes of procrastination or “shifting the blame to someone else,” when God calls us to do His works. We live in this world that offers so many comfort zones, that make us very hard to get up and serve God and others. Our lifestyle is bounded/enclosed in the worldly culture of materialistic (e.g. The American dreams) that we become so lazy to chase after the things of God. Our service to God must be pure. Do you remember the parable of Talents in Matthew 25 that Jesus taught? What did the boss say to his “good stewards” after he returned? In verse 21 - “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” “Good” means pure; it is the service wholly for God, and nothing of the flesh is added. Don’t you know each of us will be judged by Jesus one day, and our works will be tested with fire as said in 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. We will not be judged by the standards or opinions of the person sits next to you, but by the fire of the Holy Spirit who knows all heart and motives. Then would any of our works have anything left for rewards? We know our works are good if they are done according to His ways. You cannot serve God your ways, just liked the Pharisees in Jesus’ time. To know His ways, we must learn to know Him, His words, and have a close relationship with God by spending time to pray and read His words. Our service to God must be fervent, never be lacking in zeal. Fervor means serve God diligently, with intense passion and enthusiasm. We must faithfully serve God in the reverent fear of Him. Remember the parable of talents again, the second thing that the boss said to his well-done stewards – “good and faithful servants.” In 2 Timothy 4:2 Paul taught Timothy to be faithful in what? “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.” “In season or out of season” means to keep on preaching and serving until Jesus comes again. In this verse, Paul also mentioned an important ingredient to serve God faithfully is “patience” to endure in serving.
