(A Life Being Filled with The Spirit of God)

“Đừng say rượu, vì rượu xui cho luông tuồng; nhưng phải đầy dẫy Đức Thánh Linh.”
(Don’t be drunk with wine, which will ruin your life, but be filled with the Spirit.)
I. The Flesh and the Spirit
Last week we already set a spiritual motto for 2016, based on 1 Corinthians 10:31 scripture which focuses in everything we do, everywhere we go, every decision we make in this New Year is for no other reason then to glorify God – “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (Tuần trước c/ta đã đặt ra một khẩu hiệu cho năm 2016, dựa trên câu Kinh Thánh 1 Côrinhtô 10:31 để c/ta dùng làm một điểm nhắm, hầu cho tất cả mọi việc c/ta làm trong năm mới này, hoặc ăn hoặc uống, hay bất cứ điều gì không ngoài mục tiêu là để làm sáng danh vinh hiển của Chúa.)
> Knowing that already, but how do we achieve this goal? Is it difficult or easy to do? (Biết điều này rồi, nhưng làm sao để c/ta luôn làm sáng danh Chúa đây? Việc này khó hay dễ làm?)
> Although our heart and mind want to glorify God in everything we do, but in real life, it is NOT easy; but often we do the opposite to displease or dishonor God – Why? (Mặc dầu tâm trí và tấm lòng của c/ta luôn muốn làm sáng danh vinh hiển Chúa trong mọi việc, nhưng trên thực tế đây không phải là một việc dễ dàng; ngược lại nhiều khi c/ta lại đi làm những điều nghịch lại và làm xấu danh Chúa nữa.)
# The reason is because inside of us, we still contain the flesh, the old-self, and its desires that are hostile and rebellious to God, and therefore we could not do the things that glorify God. (Lý do là vì ở trong c/ta vẫn còn con người cũ, con người xác thịt và những tư dục xấu xa của nó, chống nghịch lại với ý Chúa, vì vậy c/ta không làm sáng danh Chúa được.)
> This inner struggle between the old self and the new created man is experienced even by the apostle Paul as he described in Romans 7:15-20: “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” (Sự tranh đấu thuộc linh bên trong này giữa con người xác thịt và con người được dựng nên mới trong Đấng Christ, mà chính sứ đồ Phaolô cũng làm chứng điều này trong Rôma 7:15-20 như sau: “Vì tôi không hiểu điều mình làm: tôi chẳng làm điều mình muốn, nhưng làm điều mình ghét. 16 Song nếu tôi làm điều mình chẳng muốn, thì bởi đó nhận biết luật pháp là tốt lành. 17 Bấy giờ chẳng phải tôi làm điều đó nữa, nhưng ấy là tội lỗi ở trong tôi. 18 Vả, tôi biết điều lành chẳng ở trong tôi đâu, nghĩa là trong xác thịt tôi, bởi tôi có ý muốn làm điều lành, nhưng không có quyền làm trọn; 19 vì tôi không làm điều lành mình muốn, nhưng làm điều dữ mình không muốn. 20 Ví bằng tôi làm điều mình không muốn, ấy chẳng phải là tôi làm điều đó nữa, nhưng là tội lỗi ở trong tôi vậy.”)
> As Christians, each of us also experiences this struggle; Many times we know what we should do, what we should say, but we end up doing what we should NOT, because we follow the desires of our flesh, and the results are that we do not glorify God. (C/ta hết thảy cũng kinh nhiệm sự tranh đấu này - nhiều khi c/ta biết mình phải làm gì, điều gì phải nên nói, nhưng rồi c/ta lại hành động những điều không nên làm, chỉ theo tư dục xác thịt ưa muốn, và không làm sáng danh Chúa.)
> How then can we overcome this inner battle between the old self and the new created man, so that in everything we do will truly glorify God? (Như vậy thì làm sao c/ta thắng được trong trận chiến thuộc linh này, để trong mọi việc mình làm thật sự làm sáng danh Chúa đây, chứ không để thỏa mãn tư dục xác thịt?)
> The answer is that we must be under the control of the Holy Spirit of God, as the Apostle Paul taught the church in Ephesus – “Don’t be drunk with wine, which will ruin your life, but be filled with the Spirit.” (Câu trả lời là c/ta phải biết đầu phục, ở dưới sự hướng dẫn, quyền điều khiển của Chúa Thánh Linh, như sứ đồ Phaolô đã dạy cho con cái Chúa ở hội thánh Êphêsô ngày xưa – “Đừng say rượu, vì rượu xui cho luông tuồng; nhưng phải đầy dẫy Đức Thánh Linh.”)
II. The Holy Spirit
To understand this truth thoroughly, we must first understand Who the Holy Spirit is. (Muốn hiểu lẽ thật này cặn kẽ, điều đầu tiên c/ta phải hiểu rõ Chúa Thánh Linh là ai.)
> The more we understand Who the Holy Spirit is, His ministries, and be submitted under His control, the more our life can glorify God – it’s that simple. (Khi c/ta càng biết rõ Chúa Thánh Linh là ai, các công việc của Ngài đang làm, và đầu phục Chúa hết lòng, thì đời sống c/ta càng làm sáng danh vinh hiển ĐCT - Điều này rất đơn giản không có gì là khó hiểu.)
1) The Holy Spirit is the full manifestation of God’s active presence in the present day. (Chúa Thánh Linh là sự bày tỏ, biểu lộ, khải thị trọn vẹn của sự hiện hữu của ĐCT trong đời sống hiện tại ngày hôm nay như chưa bao giờ hết.)
> This does not mean the Holy Spirit is not eternally present, even in the beginning as the self-existed God. (Đây không có nghĩa là Chúa Thánh Linh không có hiện diện từ lúc ban đầu, vì chính Ngài là ĐCT, Đấng tự hữu và hằng hữu.)
# In Genesis 1:2 recorded the presence of the Holy Spirit from the beginning before the creation – “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” (Trong STK 1:2, đã ghi chép lại sự hiện hữu của Chúa Thánh Linh từ lúc ban đầu trước khi mọi vật được dựng nên – “Vả, đất là vô hình và trống không, sự mờ tối ở trên mặt vực; Thần Đức Chúa Trời vận hành trên mặt nước.”)
a) In the Old Testament, the Spirit of God was present to empower God’s chosen people. (Trong thời Cựu Ước, Chúa Thánh Linh đã hiện diện và ban ơn trên dân chọn của Chúa.)
# For example in Exodus 31:1-3 some people were filled with the Holy Spirit with wisdom, knowledge, and skills to build the tarberacle – “Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.” (Chẳng hạn như một số người được đầy dẫy ĐTL có sự khôn ngoan, và năng khiếu để xây đền tạm cho ĐCT – “Đức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Môi-se nữa rằng: 2 Nầy, ta đã kêu tên Bết-sa-lê-ên, con trai của U-ri, cháu của Hu-rơ, trong chi phái Giu-đa. 3 Ta đã làm cho người đầy dẫy Thần của Đức Chúa Trời, sự khôn ngoan, sự thông sáng, và sự hiểu biết để làm mọi thứ nghề thợ, 4 đặng bày ra và chế tạo đồ vàng, bạc và đồng, 5 đặng khắc và khảm ngọc, đẽo gỗ và làm được mọi thứ nghề thợ.”)
# In Judges 14:6 Samsom was filled with the Holy Spirit to have a super strength – “The Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat. But he told neither his father nor his mother what he had done.” (Trong thời Các Quan Xét 14:6 – Tiên tri Samsôn được đầy dẫy Thần Linh Chúa có sức mạnh khủng khiếp, ngoài sức của người thường để bảo vệ dân sự Chúa – “Thần của Đức Giê-hô-va cảm động Sam-sôn rất mạnh, tuy chẳng cầm vật chi, song người xé con sư tử đó như xé con dê con vậy. Nhưng người chẳng thuật cho cha mẹ hay điều mình đã làm.”)
> But the works of the Holy Spirit was not extensive at this time; and it seemed to be focused to few people, mostly to God’s chosen people. (Nhưng công việc của Thần Linh Chúa không có rộng rãi, bao quát; nhưng chỉ giới hạn ở trên một số ít người, hầu hết là cho dân sự Chúa mà thôi.)
b) Beginning in the New Testament, the Spirit of God’s presence was clearly shown through the incarnation of His Son, Jesus Christ among men. (Trong thời Tân Ước, Thần Linh Chúa bày tỏ qua sự đầu thai của Con ĐCT là Cứu Chúa Giê-xu đến thế gian.)
> The Holy Spirit worked in the conception of baby Jesus in the virgin Mary’s womb, and not by human effort as recorded in Matthew 1:20 – “But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” (Thần Linh Chúa làm việc qua sự thụ thai của Chúa Giê-xu trong cô trinh nữ Mari, chứ không do sức người làm nên, có chép trong Mathiơ 1:20 – “Song đang ngẫm nghĩ về việc ấy, thì thiên sứ của Chúa hiện đến cùng Giô-sép trong giấc chiêm bao, mà phán rằng: Hỡi Giô-sép, con cháu Đa-vít, ngươi chớ ngại lấy Ma-ri làm vợ, vì con mà người chịu thai đó là bởi Đức Thánh Linh”)
> When Jesus did the miracles of casting out demons, He was done by the Spirit, as in Matthew 12:28 – “But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.” (Khi Chúa Giê-xu làm phép lạ đuổi quỉ, thì Ngài xác nhận là bởi Thần Linh Chúa mà làm, có chép trong Mathiơ 12:28 – “Mà nếu ta cậy Thánh Linh của Đức Chúa Trời để trừ quỉ, thì nước Đức Chúa Trời đã đến tận các ngươi.”)
c) After Jesus resurrected and ascended into heaven, and starting at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit manifested extensively and fully of God’s presence, not limited to few people, but through all of God’s people in the world, and especially in the church. (Sau khi Chúa Giê-xu sống lại và thăng thiên về trời, và vào lúc lễ Ngũ Tuần, là thời điểm Thánh Linh Chúa bắt đầu bày tỏ trọn vẹn, bao quát rộng rãi sự hiện hữu và quyền năng của ĐCT ở trên thế gian, nhất là trong hội thánh của Chúa.)
> Countless activitives in our present time that are under the works of the Holy Spirit such as the empowerment, sanctification, witnessing, praying, performing miracles, giving spiritual gifts for the benefit of the body of Christ, the church. (C/ta không thể kể hết được tất cả những hoạt động của Thánh Linh Chúa trong thời hiện tại này, từ chỗ Ngài ban cho quyền phép, thánh hóa, làm chứng đạo, cầu thay, làm phép lạ, ban cho mọi ơn tứ khác nhau để xây dựng thân thể của Đấng Christ.)
> The Holy Spirit is God in the third Person, Who is equally to the Father and the Son; He is present liked never before and works extensively in the world, in God’s church at our present time. Thanks God for the precious gift. (Thánh Linh là ĐCT Ngôi Ba, Ngài ngang hàng với Ngôi Đức Chúa Cha và Chúa Con; Ngài đang hiện diện và hành động rộng rãi trên khắp thế giới ngày nay, và trong hội thánh của Chúa. Cảm tạ Chúa ban cho món quà không thể diễn tả hết được.)
> What I am telling you is that the Holy Spirit is here today, and we, the church need Him to help us living and displaying a life that would glorify God. (Điều tôi muốn nhấn mạnh cho c/ta hiểu là Thần Linh Chúa đang hiện diện trong thời đại c/ta một cách rõ rệt và bao quát như chưa bao giờ hết; C/ta, hội thánh Chúa cần có Ngài giúp đỡ để có thể sống làm sáng danh Chúa trong thế giới này.)
2) How does the Holy Spirit help us? We do not have enough time to cover all of His ministries, just focus on His three important works in the church: The empowerment of life, purification, and life guiding. (Thánh Linh Chúa giúp c/ta như thế nào? Không đủ thì giờ để nói hết về những công việc Ngài làm, chỉ chú ý đến 3 công việc quan trọng của Ngài làm trên hội thánh, con cái Chúa: Quyền năng ban cho sự sống và sức sống, công việc thánh hóa hội thánh, và sự hướng dẫn của Chúa trên đời sống của mỗi con cái Ngài.)
a) First, the Holy Spirit gives power to life. (Chúa Thánh Linh ban cho sức sống.)
i) Today we live and move around is because the power of life given by the Holy Spirt. (Ngày nay mỗi người c/ta còn có năng sức sống là bởi Thánh Linh ban cho.)
# In Job 34:14-15 reminds us what happen if God decides to take back His Spirit? “If it was his intention and he withdrew his spirit and breath, 15 all humanity would perish together and mankind would return to the dust.” (Trong sách Giốp 34:14-15 nhắc c/ta nhớ nếu Thần Linh của Chúa ra khỏi loài người c/ta thì chuyện gì sẽ xảy ra? “Nếu Ngài chỉ lo tưởng đến chính mình Ngài, Thâu lại về mình thần linh và hơi thở của Ngài, 15 Thì các loài xác thịt chắc chết chung nhau hết, và loài người trở vào bụi đất.”)
> Not just life, but the Spirit of God gives new life in Christ as in John 3:6-7 – “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.” (Không chỉ sức sống phần thuộc thể thôi, nhưng còn là sự sống mới trong Đấng Christ, được làm con cái ĐCT bởi sự sanh lại do quyền năng của Chúa Thánh Linh, có chép trong Giăng 3:6-7 – “Hễ chi sanh bởi xác thịt là xác thịt; hễ chi sanh bởi Thánh Linh là thần. 7 Chớ lấy làm lạ về điều ta đã nói với ngươi: Các ngươi phải sanh lại.”)
> Even more, when Jesus Christ returns, the Holy Spirit will raise us up with a glorious & new body to the eternal life with the same resurrection power that He did on Jesus’ body almost 2,000 years ago, as in Romans 8:11 – “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” (Hơn nữa, khi Chúa Giê-xu trở lại, Thần Linh Chúa sẽ làm c/ta sống lại để hưởng sự sống đời đời, cùng một quyền năng Ngài đã làm Chúa Giê-xu sống lại với một thân thể mới vinh hiển – “Lại nếu Thánh Linh của Đấng làm cho Đức Chúa Jêsus sống lại từ trong kẻ chết ở trong anh em, thì Đấng làm cho Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ sống lại từ trong kẻ chết cũng sẽ nhờ Thánh Linh Ngài ở trong anh em mà khiến thân thể hay chết của anh em lại sống.”)
ii) In Acts 1:8 reminds us that the Holy Spirit gives power to the church to witness effectively throughout the world, even in the most hostile environment – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Trong Công Vụ 1:8 – Thánh Linh ban cho hội thánh quyền phép, the dynamite, để làm chứng Tin Lành hữu hiệu đến cùng trái đất, kể cả những lúc đạo bị bắt bớ kinh khủng – “Nhưng khi Đức Thánh Linh giáng trên các ngươi, thì các ngươi sẽ nhận lấy quyền phép, và làm chứng về ta tại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, cả xứ Giu-đê, xứ Sa-ma-ri, cho đến cùng trái đất.”)
iii) He gives gifts to empower the individual believers to serve as in 1 Corinthians 12:11 – “All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.” (Chúa Thánh Linh ban quyền năng cho con cái Ngài qua những ân tứ, giống như ngày xưa trong Cựu Ước vậy.)
> He gives the gift of discernment to know the right thing to do that glorifies God. (Ngài ban cho c/ta ơn phân biệt để biết phải làm những điều nào để sáng danh Chúa.)
iv) The Holy Spirit provides a powerful weapon for us to fight against the forces of satan and demonic darkness, becoming victorious over the influence of sin, as said in Ephesians 6:17 – “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Thánh Linh ban cho vũ khí thuộc linh để chiến đấu với mọi quyền lực của ma quỉ, chiến thắng sức mạnh cám dỗ của tội lỗi, như có chép trong Êphêsô 6:17 – “Cũng hãy lấy sự cứu chuộc làm mão trụ, và cầm gươm của Đức Thánh Linh, là lời Đức Chúa Trời.”)
> And when we live a victorious life with powers given by the Spirit of God, we will surely glorify Him. The world will come to know our God is NOT small as other gods. (Và khi c/ta sống một đời sống chiến thắng tư dục, và quyền lực của ma quỉ bởi quyền năng của Thánh Linh, c/ta làm sáng danh Chúa, và thế gian sẽ biết Chúa của c/ta không “nhỏ” như các thần khác.)
b) Another important of the His works is that the Holy Spirit purifies us to be more liked Christ. (Một trong công việc quan trọng của Đức Thánh Linh nữa đó là Ngài thánh hóa đời sống của c/ta mỗi ngày trở nên giống như Đấng Christ hơn.)
# In 1 Corinthians 6:11 speaks about His sanctification ministry – “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (Trong 1 Côrinhtô 6:11 chép công việc thánh hóa này của Chúa Thánh Linh – “Trước kia anh em ít nữa cũng có một đôi người như thế; nhưng nhơn danh Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, và nhờ Thánh Linh của Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta, thì anh em được rửa sạch, được nên thánh, được xưng công bình rồi.”)
# One time I went to a camp, the first room I entered – there was a big mirror so you can see yourself, and under it has a question – “Do you see Jesus?” (Nhớ ngày xưa có lần đi dự trại, bước vào phòng sinh hoạt đầu tiên có treo một tấm gương soi mặt lớn để ai nhìn vào thì thấy chính mình, và ở dưới có hàng chữ “Bạn có thấy Chúa Giê-xu không (ở trong bạn)?”)
# Have you look at yourself lately and compared from the past when you did not know Jesus? (Quí vị có bao giờ soi mặt trong gương và so sánh con người mới của mình ngày hôm nay với cuộc đời trong quá khứ trước khi tin nhận Chúa không?)
> Can you count how many bad habbits that you have gotten rid off since the day you were born again? (Quí vị có thể đếm được bao nhiêu tật hư nết xấu c/ta đã từ bỏ từ khi đến tin nhận Chúa không?)
> Where do the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control… in you come from? (Những trái tốt như là sự yêu thương, vui mừng, bình an, nhịn nhục, nhân từ, hiền lành, trung tín, mềm mại, tiết độ… ở trong quí vị từ đâu có vậy?)
> All is the result of works of the Holy Spirit in you. (Tất cả là việc làm của Chúa Thánh Linh ở trong c/ta.)
> We begin to think like Christ, talk like Christ, walk like Christ because of the Holy Spirit, and this “Christ-like” glorifies God. (C/ta bắt đầu có sự suy nghĩ như Chúa Giê-xu, nói như Ngài, sống theo đạo Chúa là bởi vì Thần Chúa thánh hóa đời sống mình, và điều này chiếu sáng danh Chúa.)
c) The third important work of the Spirit of God is that He teaches, guides and reminds us the Word of God. (Chúa Thánh Linh còn dạy dỗ, hướng dẫn, và nhắc nhở c/ta lời của Chúa luôn để c/ta biết bước đi trong ý Ngài mà làm sáng danh Chúa.)
# In John 16:13 said that the Spirit of God guides us – “in all the truth” that we were blinded by the demonic darkness for so long. (Trong Giăng 16:13 chép Chúa Thánh Linh dẫn c/ta vào mọi lẽ thật, mà c/ta đã bị làm mù quáng che đậy, trói buộc bởi quyền lực đen tối lâu năm rồi.)
# Can you count things that you had done blindly in the past that were not in agreement with God and His word, until the Spirit of God opens your eyes and heart to see the truth? (Quí vị có thể đếm biết bao nhiêu điều xấu xa c/ta đã làm trong quá khứ mà không theo lời Chúa dạy, cho đến khi Thần Linh Chúa mở mắt và mở lòng c/ta ra để thấy được lẽ thật, và lẽ thật dẫn c/ta đến sự tự so thật?)
# Can you count how many occasions that the Holy Spirt reminds you the scriptures you just learned from the Bible study or sermons and guides you to make a wise decision that is pleasing to God? (Quí vị có thể đếm hết được những trường hợp Thánh Linh Chúa nhắc nhở mình những câu Kinh Thánh mình đã học đã nghe vừa qua để hướng dẫn mình có sự quyết định đẹp lòng Chúa không?)
> It is suprising how many activities are said in the New Testament be done “in” the Holy Spirit, eventhough we don’t see Him. (Quí vị có ngạc nhiên chưa, khi thấy rất nhiều những hoạt động trong thời Tân Ước và hiện tại là do Chúa Thánh Linh hành động bao quát, mặc dầu c/ta không thấy Ngài bằng mắt trần không?)
# You do not see your heart, your lungs, your stomach, but you know they are all there inside of you to keep on functioning so you can be alive and healthy? (Quí vị không có thấy trái tim, hai lá phổi, bao tử của mình, nhưng quí vị biết chắc rằng tất cả những bộ phận này đang nằm trong thân thể của mình và hoạt động để giữ mình còn sống và khỏe mạnh?)
III. A Controlled Spirit Life
It’s good to know all the truth about the Holy Spirit, but the “bottom line” is how can He actually help me, or asking a different question – why I don’t see His working powers in my life? (Điều rất tốt c/ta học biết về Thần Linh Chúa là ai và những việc Ngài làm, nhưng thực tế làm sao Chúa Thánh Linh giúp đỡ c/ta được?)
1) First, we must believe that the Spirit dwells inside all who believe in God. God’s Spirit is in you and me for all who believe in Jesus. (Trước hết, c/ta phải hiểu và tin rằng Thần Linh Chúa đang hiện diện ở trong lòng mọi kẻ tin đã tin nhận Chúa Giêsu.)
# In 1 Corinthians 6:19 the apostle Paul declared this truth to the church – “You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you.” (Trong 1 Côrinhtô 6:19, sứ đồ Phaolô khẳng định lẽ thật này – “Anh em há chẳng biết rằng thân thể mình là đền thờ của Đức Thánh Linh đang ngự trong anh em, là Đấng mà anh em đã nhận bởi Đức Chúa Trời, và anh em chẳng phải thuộc về chính mình sao?”)
> You do not need to have the gift of speaking in tongue or any gifts for Him to be in you. (C/ta không cần phải có ân tứ nói tiếng lạ thì mới có Thần Linh Chúa ở trong mình.)
# Our Christian life begins at the conversion when we repent our sins and receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior; and at that moment you are born again is when the Holy Spirit resides in you. (Đời sống tâm linh của c/ta bắt đầu từ giây phút c/ta được sanh lại khi ăn năn tội và tiếp nhận Cưú Chúa Giê-xu thì cũng là lúc Chúa Thánh Linh bắt đầu ngự và sống trong c/ta.)
2) However, a believer will not begin the process of maturity until that person is filled by the Holy Spirit Who promises and provides all powers to live a purposeful life for God. # That is exactly what the apostle Paul said in Ephesians 5:18 – “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” (Đó là điều mà sứ đồ Phaolô đã nói trong Êphêsô 5:18 – “Đừng say rượu, vì rượu xui cho luông tuồng; nhưng phải đầy dẫy Đức Thánh Linh.”)
> So what does the “filling of the Holy Spirit” mean? (Như vậy từ ngữ “phải đầy dẫy Đức Thánh Linh nghĩa là sao?)
# It does not mean you have more of the Holy Spirit, but to be more under His control or Lordship. (Đây không có nghĩa lá c/ta có them Thần Linh Chúa, nhưng có nghĩa là càng ở dưới quyền điều khiển, tể trị của Chúa Thánh Linh trong mọi việc c/ta làm hằng ngày.)
a) This is a present tense “be filling” indicating a continuous process, being filled day-by-day, moment by moment, thought by thought… (Động từ “đầy dẫy” này trong thể liên tục, nói đến một tiến trình luôn xảy ra trong mỗi ngày, mỗi lúc, mỗi tư tưởng của cuộc sống mình.)
b) As a strong drink influences or controlled the person, a person is being filled with the Spirit of God is continuously being controlled/influenced by the Holy Spirit in everything he does. (Như một người say rượu thì bị ảnh hưởng, điều khiển bởi chất rượu, thì hình ảnh tương phản của một người được đầy dẫy Thánh Linh cũng luôn bị ảnh hưởng ở dưới quyền điều khiển của Thần Linh Chúa.)
# Example in Scott’s life who is being experiencing of the filling – how?
> He is constantly thirsty for His word. (Thường xuyên thèm khát được học lời Chúa.)
> Every decision in his life, including making business deals are with prayers, asking the Holy Spirit guidance. (Mọi sự quyết định trong cuộc sống, kể cả công ăn việc làm, anh nhận biết sự dự phần và quyền điều khiển của Chúa trong lời cầu nguyện.)
> He has more concern with his family than ever before. (Anh chú tân nhiều hơn cho gia đình mình.)
> He has concern of lost people and sometimes boldly share the Gospel to them. (Anh chú tâm nhiều hơn đến những người đang hư mất, nhất là những người thân yêu của mình mà làm chứng cho.)
> The Spirit of God cannot fill us, until we are willing to do the following things: (Thần linh Chúa sẽ không thể bắt phục, làm Chủ c/ta, cho đến khi c/ta bằng lòng làm những điều sau đây:)
1) We must sense, and being aware of His presence. (C/ta phải cảm nhận sự hiện diện của Chúa trong đời sống mình.)
> Does your body sense the hunger by the grounching of the stomach few times a day? (Thân thể của quí vị có cảm nhận sự đói khát khi bao tử mình rên không?)
# Have you sensed that the Holy Spirit is speaking to you during a sermon or a Bible study? (Quí vị có cảm nhận gì cho chính mình khi học Kinh Thánh hay nghe giảng không?)
# In everything you do, are you sensing the conviction of the knowledge of the scriptures? (Trong mọi việc quí vị làm hằng ngày, có sự cảm nhận của lời Chúa hướng dẫn mình quyết định gì không?)
> Are we too busy with facebook and not His Book, so our life becomes senseless of the presence of the Holy Spirit? (C/ta có quá bận rộn với facebook, nhưng khônng cần lời Chúa, để rồi c/ta trở nên những người không còn sự nhạy cảm của sự thúc dục, cáo trách đến từ Thánh Linh sao?)
> In 1985, after about 3 years becoming a Christians, I was sensed from God telling me to connect with the Vietnamese people to begin a Bible study group, without knowing what my future would be? # How many times do we go to church but ignoring His convictions; There is no commitment, no dedication; and the result is there is no change. Next week we come back to church with the same old-self. # Your stomach can grounch asking for food, and WMU women cook “pho” for you and put in front of your table, you smell it but decide not to eat it, would that “pho” do anything for your body? > You can have the best preacher, teacher in the world, but you don’t response to the conviction of the Holy Spirit then they do not do any good for you. (Hội thánh có thể có vị mục sư hay thầy cô được ơn nhất, nhưng nếu mỗi người c/ta không chịu đầu phục Thần Linh Chúa thì họ cũng chẳng giúp ích cho đời sống tâm linh của quí vị được.)
3) We must always depend on His power in everything you do, His guidance at all the times, and not on our own strength. (C/ta phải lệ thuộc, nhờ cậy vào quyền năng của Thánh Linh mà hành động mọi việc, sự hướng dẫn của Chúa luôn mọi lúc, không dựa vào sự hiểu biết, khôn ngoan của mình.)
# Zechariah 4:6 reminds us – “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” (Kinh Thánh Xachari 4:6 nhắc c/ta điều gì? “Ấy chẳng phải là bởi quyền thế, cũng chẳng phải là bởi năng lực, bèn là bởi Thần ta, Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán vậy.”)
> “Being filled” by the Holy Spirit means “being yielded, being depended” on the Holy Spirt leads. (Đầy dẫy Thánh Linh nghĩa là luôn nhu mì, nhường chủ quyền riêng của mình cho Chúa, và luôn lệ thuộc vào sự hướng dẫn của Ngài.)
# I often said that the most difficult thing for Christians to do is to yield our thought, our way, our will to the Spirit of God to control. (Tôi vẫn thường nói, điều khó nhất trong đời sống của con cái Chúa chính là bắng lòng nhường chủ quyền riêng của mình cho Chúa Thánh Linh tể trị.)
# One time I saw a sticker behind a car saying - “God is my co-pilot. I don’t think this is correct, this is not yielding, this is not be filled; it should change to “God is my only pilot,” giving the wheel of your car to Him to control. (Có lần tôi lái xe thấy có người gắn một nhãn hiệu đằng sau xe có chữ: “Chúa là người lái xe phụ của đời tôi.” Điều này không đúng, vì đây không phải là sự đầu phục, nhờ cậy Thánh Linh; Phải đổi lại là “Chúa là Người lái xe duy nhất của đời tôi,” bằng cách trao tay lái của chiếc xe đời mình cho Thánh Linh tể trị hoàn toàn.)
> We must always ask ourselves in everything we do - Is this my old-self’s will, the desire of my flesh or is it His will by the guidance of the Holy Spirtit for the glory of God? (C/ta phải luôn tự hỏi trong mọi việc mình làm câu hỏi – Việc của Chúa tôi sắp làm có phải theo ý riêng của mình, theo tư dục xác thịt của mình, hay là ý Chúa Thánh Linh, bởi sự thúc dục của Ngài không?)

> You must believe that Jesus has sent the gift of the Spirit of God to us and if you believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit is living in you. (Quí vị phải tin rằng Chúa Giê-xu đã hứa ban cho Thần Linh Ngài, và Đấng đó đang ở trong mỗi lòng của những kẻ tin.)
> But to glorify God, you need to be constantly filling by the Spirit of God. This means you must often sense His presence and convictions, you must response to His guidance, and you must yield your will to His supreme authority. (Nhưng để sống làm sáng danh Chúa, c/ta phải nhận biết sự hiện hữu và được đầy dẫy Chúa Thánh Linh.)
# A story of a man in Texas, he owned a lot of lands. But because of his business getting bad, he owned a lot of debts so he had to sell his land really cheap. (Câu chuyện một người nhà nông sống bên Texas có rất nhiều đất đai. Nhưng vì làm ăn thất bại, nợ nhiều tiền, cho nên ông phải bán vội hết đất đai của mình với gía rất rẻ để trả nợ.)
> A new owner had it later discovered a big oil reservoir under the soil and became a very rich man, like winning a powerball. (Người chủ mới sau này khám phá ra ở dưới lòng đất mình đã mua là một mỏ dầu hỏa lớn. Ông cho người khai thác và trở nên một người rất là giàu có.)
> I am sure the previous owner would be very regretted that He didn’t know that he had this treasure for a long time that could take care all of his debts and gave him a very rich life. (Tôi tin rằng người chủ cũ nghe như vậy thì tiếc lắm phải không, vì đã không biết một kho tàng lớn nằm ờ dưới đất đai của mình mà có thể trang trải mọi nợ nần mà còn làm mình giàu có nữa?)
> What’s about us? I am not talking about winning the powerball, but the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. (Còn mỗi người c/ta thì sao? C/ta có nhận biết món quà quí gía đã được ban cho là Thần Linh Chúa không?)
# Jesus promised and gave the gift of the Holy Spirit and He lives right inside of us. Did we miss Him? Will we be regretted? (Chúa Giê-xu đã hứa ban cho và Ngài đang sống trong lòng mỗi con cái Chúa. C/ta có lỡ không nhận thấy Ngài chăng?)
> How many of us will care to know this gift and will experience His powers to begin living a life that glorifies God? (Bao nhiêu người trong c/ta sẽ nhận biết được món quà này và sống kinh nghiệm được quyền năng Chúa Thánh Linh đã hứa ban cho?)
> May we all come to God at this moment, re-dedicate our life to Jesus, asking to being filled with His Spirit and then live a life that displays His glory to the world to see. Amen. (Thật mong mỗi người c/ta đến với Chúa Cha, tận hiến lại cuộc đời mình cho Chúa Giê-xu, và cầu xin được đầy dẫy Chúa Thánh Linh, để sống một cuộc đời phô bày sự vinh hiển của Chúa cho thế gian thấy mà tin Ngài.)

> How will this 2016 year be? Will there be some significant events happen before our eyes?
> I don’t know.
> How will VHBC be in this New Year? I don’t know either.
> But one thing for sure based on God’s promise that VHBC will glorify God in 2016 if the church is being filled with the Spirit of God.
> Of course, I do not talk about the church, but you and me – all who believe in God and Jesus His Son.
> The gift of God’s Spirit was promised and given fully from the Pentecost and He lives inside you & me.
> The Holy Spirit is given to manifest God’s presence and help us to fulfill our purpose and that is to glorify God.
> We must allow Him being filled our life from the inside of our heart to the outside lifestyle, the way we live and the word we say.
> “Being filled by the Spirit” means to give Him the control of our life - The control of what we eat, we drink, we say, we do, we think to be in according to His will and ways, revealing by the knowledge of the Scriptures that we know.
> You can start with a commitment today, or nothing else will happen.
1) Begin a daily devotion, 3 times a day so you can sense His presence and convictions.
2) Check His will through the knowledge of the scriptures and response to His convictions.
3) Yielding to His leadership, and depending on His powers to help us accomplishing His wills in the church, our home, work place, and in the community.
> Then when you come back next week, you can testify that the word of God is true, and the works of the Holy Spirt are real.

A Life Being Filled with the Spirit of God
Ephesians 5:18
“Don’t be drunk with wine, which will ruin your life, but be filled with the Spirit.”
Last week we set a spiritual motto for 2016, based on 1 Corinthians 10:31 which focuses in everything we do for this New Year is for no other reason than to glorify God. Knowing that already, but how do we achieve this goal? Is it difficult or easy to do? Although our heart and mind want to glorify God in everything we do, but in real life, it is NOT easy; but often we do the opposite to dishonor God – Why? The reason is because inside of us, we still contain the old-self, and its desires that are hostile and rebellious to God, and therefore we could not do the things that glorify God. As Christians, each of us also experiences this struggle and many times we know what we should do, what we should say, but we end up doing what we should NOT, because we follow the desires of our flesh, and the results are that we do not glorify God. How then can we overcome this inner battle between the old self and the new created man, so that in everything we do will truly glorify God? The answer is that we must be under the control of the Holy Spirit of God, as the Apostle Paul taught the church in Ephesus – “Don’t be drunk with wine, which will ruin your life, but be filled with the Spirit.”
To understand this truth thoroughly, we must first understand Who the Holy Spirit is. The more we understand Who the Holy Spirit is, His ministries, and be submitted under His control, the more our life can glorify God – it’s that simple. The Holy Spirit is the full manifestation of God’s active presence in the present day. This does not mean the Holy Spirit is not eternally present, even in the beginning as the self-existed God. In Genesis 1:2 recorded the presence of the Holy Spirit from the beginning before the creation. In the Old Testament, the Spirit of God was present to empower God’s chosen people. For example in Exodus 31:1-3 some people were filled with the Holy Spirit with wisdom, knowledge, and skills to build the tabernacle. In Judges 14:6 Samson was filled with the Holy Spirit to have a super strength. But the works of the Holy Spirit was not extensive at this time; and it seemed to be focused only few people, mostly to God’s chosen people. Beginning in the New Testament, the Spirit of God’s presence was clearly shown through the incarnation of His Son, Jesus Christ among men. The Holy Spirit worked in the conception of baby Jesus in the virgin Mary’s womb and not by human effort as recorded in Matthew 1:20. When Jesus did the miracles of casting out demons, He was done by the Spirit, as in Matthew 12:28. After Jesus resurrected and ascended into heaven, and starting at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit manifested extensively and fully of God’s presence, not limited to few people, but through all of God’s people in the world, and especially in the church. Countless activities in our present time that are under the works of the Holy Spirit such as the empowerment, sanctification, witnessing, praying, performing miracles, giving spiritual gifts for the benefit of the body of Christ, the church.
How does the Holy Spirit help us? We do not have enough time to cover all of His ministries, just focus on His three important works in the church: The empowerment of life, purification, and life guiding. First, the Holy Spirit gives power to life. Today we live and move around is because the power of life given by the Holy Spirt. Not just life, but the Spirit of God gives new life in Christ. Even more, when Jesus Christ returns, the Holy Spirit will raise us up with a glorious & new body to the eternal life with the same resurrection power that He did on Jesus’ body almost 2,000 years ago. In Acts 1:8 reminds us that the Holy Spirit gives power to the church to witness effectively throughout the world. He gives gifts to empower the individual believers to serve as in 1 Corinthians 12:11. And when we live a victorious life with powers given by the Spirit of God, we will surely glorify Him. The world will come to know our God is NOT small as other gods. Another important of the His works is that the Holy Spirit purifies us to be more liked Christ. Have you look at yourself lately and compared from the past when you did not know Jesus? Can you count how many bad habits that you have gotten rid of since the day you were born again? Where do the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in you come from? All is the result of works of the Holy Spirit in you. The third important work of the Spirit of God is that He teaches guides and reminds us the Word of God. Can you count how many occasions that the Holy Spirt reminds you the scriptures you just learned from the Bible study or sermons and guides you to make a wise decision that is pleasing to God? It is surprising how many activities are said in the New Testament be done “in” the Holy Spirit, even though we don’t see Him. You do not see your heart, your lungs, your stomach, but you know they are all there inside of you to keep on functioning so you can be alive and healthy?
It’s good to know all the truth about the Holy Spirit, but the “bottom line” is how can He actually help us? First, we must believe that the Spirit dwells inside all who believe in God. God’s Spirit is in you and me for all who believe in Jesus. You do not need to have the gift of speaking in tongue or any gifts for Him to be in you. Jesus promised and gave the gift of the Holy Spirit and He lives inside of us. How many of us will care to know this gift and will experience His powers to live a life that glorifies God? May we all come to God at this moment and re-dedicate our life to God and being filled with His Spirit and then live a life that displays His glory to the world to see Him.
