God Opens Doors

(Khải Huyền 3:7-8)

 

 

“Ngươi cũng hãy viết cho thiên sứ của Hội thánh Phi-la-đen-phi rằng: Nầy là lời phán của Đấng thánh, chân thật, là Đấng có chìa khóa của Đa-vít, mở thì không ai đóng được, đóng thì không ai mở được: 8 Ta biết công việc ngươi; nầy, ta đã mở trước mặt ngươi một cái cửa không ai đóng được; vì ngươi có ít năng lực, mà đã giữ đạo ta, và chẳng chối danh ta. / 9 Nầy, ta ban cho ngươi mấy kẻ trong những kẻ thuộc về hội quỉ Sa-tan, chúng nó xưng mình là người Giu-đa, mà kỳ thực không phải, nhưng chúng nó nói dối; nầy, ta sẽ khiến chúng nó đến sấp mình xuống dưới chân ngươi, và sẽ cho chúng nó biết rằng ta đã yêu ngươi. 10 Vì ngươi đã giữ lời nhịn nhục ta, ta cũng sẽ giữ ngươi khỏi giờ thử thách, là giờ sẽ đến trong khắp thế gian, đặng thử những người ở trên đất. 11 Ta đến mau kíp; hãy giữ lấy điều ngươi có, hầu cho không ai cất lấy mão triều thiên của ngươi. 12 Kẻ nào thắng, ta sẽ cho làm trụ trong đền Đức Chúa Trời ta, và người sẽ không ra khỏi đó nữa; ta lại sẽ lấy danh Đức Chúa Trời ta, danh của thành Đức Chúa Trời ta, là Giê-ru-sa-lem mới từ trên trời, bởi Đức Chúa Trời ta mà xuống, cùng danh mới ta, mà viết trên người. 13 Ai có tai, hãy nghe lời Đức Thánh Linh phán cùng các Hội thánh!”

(To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.)

 

 

I. God be Glorified through the Church

 

          Couple weeks ago, we already set a new motto for our church in 2016, based on 1 Corinthians 10:31 that is in everything we do, we will glorify God. (C/ta đã đặt một khẩu hiệu cho H/T nhắm vào trong năm mới 2016 này dựa trên 1 Côrinhtô 10:31, đó là trong mọi việc c/ta làm, hoặc ăn, hoặc uống, mỗi người c/ta sẽ luôn làm sáng danh Chúa.)

> First this can be done individually through a) our transformed life displaying the powers of God, b) our life of worship, c) our obedience to His words, and d) good works to show His love. (Điều này thứ nhất được hòan thành qua sự đổi mới của chính đời sống cá nhân bày tỏ quyền năng Chúa ở trong c/ta, qua sự thờ phượng, và những việc lành c/ta làm vì danh Chúa mỗi ngày.)

> But glorifying God can also be displayed through His church, cooperatedly. (Sự làm sáng danh Chúa cũng phải được bày tỏ qua hội thánh Chúa chung nữa.)

# In Ephesians 3:20-21 – Paul prayed for the church as “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Êphêsô 3:21 có chép – “nguyền Ngài được vinh hiển trong Hội thánh, và trong Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, trải các thời đại, đời đời vô cùng. A-men.”)

 

> How can the church bring glory to God? (Làm thế nào để H/T Chúa chung làm sáng danh vinh hiển Ngài?)

# The answer is when the church lives and functions according to Jesus’ will. (Câu trả lời là khi “Hội Thánh” của Chúa Giê-xu sống đúng mục đích theo ý Ngài muốn.)

 

1) We first need to understand “WHO” is the church? (Điều đầu tiên c/ta cần phải hiểu H/T là ai?)

> The word “church” or “Ekklesia” in the original Greek language is first recorded in Matthew 16:18 when Jesus established – “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (Chữ Hội Thánh theo tiếng Hy-lap là chữ “Ekklesia” đầu tiên được ghi chép trong Tin Lành Mathiơ 16:18 do chính Chúa Giê-xu đã phán như sau: “Còn ta, ta bảo ngươi rằng: Ngươi là Phi-e-rơ, ta sẽ lập Hội thánh ta trên đá nầy, các cửa âm phủ chẳng thắng được hội đó.”)

> The word “ekklesia” has two words in it: “ek” means “out of,” and “klẽsis” means a “calling.” (Chữ “ekklesia” này gồm có hai từ: 1st) "ek" nghĩa là “ra khỏi từ” và 2nd) "klẽsis" nghĩa là “một sự kêu gọi đặc biệt.”)

> So the word “church” points to a group of people that God has “called out” from the world, to be sanctified and set apart for God’s own. (Như vậy định nghĩa của 2 chữ "Hội Thánh" là những người được ĐCT thánh hóa, gọi ra khỏi [giữa thế gian], và được biệt riêng ra… làm “con dân” của riêng Ngài.)

> You and me become a sanctified and God’s chosen people NOT because of what we did, but through the blood of Jesus, God’s Son. (C/ta là ~người được trở nên Thánh, là dân thánh… không bởi công đức cá nhân của mình, nhưng bởi quyền năng của ĐCT ban cho… qua huyết thánh của Con Ngài… là Đức Chúa Giê-xu… và họp lại trong 1 hội gọi là Hội Thánh.)

# We look the same from outside, but inside we are God’s children. (C/ta nhìn bên ngoài không khác gì ~người thường: một số đông c/ta cũng đi làm công cho người Mỹ, làm móng tay, coi sóc ~tiệm tạp hóa, mở nhà hàng, bác sĩ, kỹ sư, giáo sư, kế toán… nhưng bên trong c/ta được Chúa gọi và ban cho 1 địa vị làm con thánh của ĐCT.)

 

2) The best picture of the church is a body that has many parts, and Jesus is the head. (Trong Kinh Thánh cho thấy H/T Chúa được diễn tả qua nhiều hình ảnh… Nhưng không có hình ảnh nào… để nói lên mối liên hệ mật thiết và sự liên hệ của mỗi c/ta với nhau trong gia đình của Chúa, cho bằng hình ảnh Phaolô đã dùng như một thân thể, trong đó có nhiều ~chi thể khác nhau, và Chúa Giê-xu là “đầu” của thân thể đó.)

# In Colossians 1:8 Paul said – “And He (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy.” (Trong Côlôse 1:8 – “Ấy cũng chính Ngài (Chúa Giê-xu) là đầu của thân thể, tức là đầu Hội thánh. Ngài là ban đầu sanh trước nhất từ trong những kẻ chết, hầu cho trong mọi vật, Ngài đứng đầu hàng.”

 

> What does it mean to say that Jesus is the head? (Khi nói đến “cái đầu” c/ta nghĩ gì?)

> When we talk about the head, we talk about the Lordship of Jesus Christ; He controls every parts of His body. (Thiết nghĩ khi c/ta nói đến chữ “đầu” – c/ta nói đến bộ óc… là trung tâm điều khiển của tất cả ~chi thể qua ~giây thần kinh, làm tim đập, phổi thở, bao tử bóp, mắt thấy, mũi ngữi, tay chân di động… qua ~giây thần kinh nằm xuyên qua tủy sương sống.)

> Jesus is the Lord meaning He has the ownership of His church, He is the King of His people. He gives commands and we obey. (Ý nghĩa thuộc linh của chữ Chúa Giê-xu làm đầu đây nghĩa là Ngài làm Chủ Quyền (Owner/The Lord/Adonai) của H/T là “hội” thuộc của Ngài, chứ không phải thuộc của 1 người nào hết.)

# One of the reasons, many churches have conflicts today is because there are some who want to be the head of the church. (Một trong ~lý do chính của nhiều H/T bị xung đột thường cũng là vì có 1 số người phàm cứ muốn làm “đầu” H/T mà thôi; Muốn trở nên làm “ông chủ” của H/T… mà hội đó không thuộc của mình.)

> There is only one Head in the body and the head is Jesus Christ. (Chỉ có 1 “Đầu” của H/T mà thôi… và Đấng đó là Đức Chúa Giê-xu Christ.)

> If Jesus is the Lord, then it makes all of us become His servants to serve Him. (Nếu Chúa Giê-xu làm đầu và là Chủ của H/T thì có nghĩa là tất cả c/ta đều là ~đầy tớ của Ngài; Mà nếu là ~đầy tớ thì c/ta phải phục vụ chủ, làm theo ý của Chủ mình.)

 

 

II. Church Purposes

 

        Secondly, we must understand WHY did Jesus establish the church? (Thứ hai là c/ta phải hiểu rõ tại sao Chúa thiết lập nên H/T của Ngài.)

> What are the purposes of the church? Why did Jesus build His church? (Mục đích của H/T là gì mà Chúa Giê-xu đã thiết lập?)

> It can be summarized in two main purposes: (Tóm tắt trong 2 mục đích sau đây:)

 

1) For the building up the faith, and (Xây dựng đức tin của mỗi kẻ tin đến mức trưởng thành)

 

2) To share the good News to the end of the earth. (Làm trọn đại sứ mạng rao giảng Tin Lành cho đến cùng thế giới.)

 

1) In Ephesians 4:11-13 Paul said – “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” (Trong Êphêsô 4:11-12 – “Ấy chính Ngài đã cho người nầy làm sứ đồ, kẻ kia làm tiên tri, người khác làm thầy giảng Tin Lành, kẻ khác nữa làm mục sư và giáo sư, 12 để các thánh đồ được trọn vẹn về công việc của chức dịch và sự gây dựng thân thể Đấng Christ, 13 cho đến chừng chúng ta thảy đều hiệp một trong đức tin và trong sự hiểu biết Con Đức Chúa Trời, mà nên bậc thành nhân, được tầm thước vóc giạc trọn vẹn của Đấng Christ.”)

> The Church is God’s people, the church is Jesus’ body that is equipped with spiritual gifts to grow in the maturity of the knowledge of Jesus Christ. He does not want us to stay as babies, but matured and being healthy. This process is sometimes called discipleship. (C/ta là H/T của Chúa, là thân thể của Ngài, được ban cho những ơn tứ để trưởng thành trong sự hiểu biết Chúa là ai và bước đi theo Ngài, gọi là tiến trình của môn đồ hóa.) 

 

2) We are the church to do His great Commission as commanded by Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20 – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Chúng ta được ở trong Hội Thánh của Chúa không phải chỉ là để có sự thông công vui vẻ, nhưng trung tâm điểm của Hội Thánh là để qua Hội, cả thế giới được biết đến Tin Lành cứu chuộc của Chúa đã qua đại mạng lệnh chéo trong Mathiơ 28:19-20 chính Chúa Giê-xu phán gì về mục đích cao thượng này trước khi thăng thiên về trời? “Vậy, hãy đi dạy dỗ muôn dân, hãy nhân danh Đức Cha, Đức Con, và Đức Thánh Linh mà làm phép báp tem cho họ, 20 và dạy họ giữ hết cả mọi điều mà ta đã truyền cho các ngươi. Và nầy, ta thường ở cùng các ngươi luôn cho đến tận thế.”)

 

> Do you have a desire for His church to grow in quality (maturing faith), as well as quantity in numbers as many people can hear of the Gospel and be saved, added to God’s kingdom? (Quí vị có tấm lòng thật muốn H/T được phát triển thêm đức tin và số người được cứu trong năm nay không?)

 

 

III. With God’s Help

 

        Not just Who and Why, but HOW can the church bring glory to God by fulfilling her purposes? (Làm thế nào để H/T của Chúa làm sáng danh Chúa bằng cách sống đúng mục đích đây?)

 

1) First, do not forget helps from the Holy Spirit Who Jesus once promised to give to the church, as in John 14:16 – “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—He gives us the Holy Spirit.” (Đừng quên Chúa Thánh Linh là Đấng mà Chúa Giê-xu đã một lần hứa ban cho để giúp đỡ c/ta trong mọi việc.)

 

> How does the Holy Spirit help us? (Chúa Thánh Linh giúp đỡ c/ta như thế nào?)

a) First, the Holy Spirit gives powers to life from living victoriously over sins, the power to witness, and the resurrected power of new, and incorruptible bodies one day. (Chúa Thánh Linh ban cho sức sống để kinh nghiệm một đời sống biến đổi, để làm chứng và quyền năng một ngày được sống lại với thân thể mới, không còn bị hư nát nữa.)

 

b) Another important of the His works is that the Holy Spirit purifies each of us to be more liked Christ. (Một trong công việc quan trọng của Đức Thánh Linh nữa đó là Ngài thánh hóa đời sống của c/ta mỗi ngày trở nên giống như Đấng Christ hơn.)

# Look at yourself in the mirror and then you will see Christ in you. (Quí vị hãy tự soi mặt mình trong gương đi thì sẽ thấy hình bóng Chúa Giê-xu chiếu sáng ở trong mình.)

 

c) The third important work of the Spirit of God is that He teaches, guides and reminds us the Word of God. (Chúa Thánh Linh còn dạy dỗ, hướng dẫn, và nhắc nhở c/ta lời của Chúa luôn để c/ta biết bước đi trong ý Ngài mà làm sáng danh Chúa.)

 

2) There is one more thing that the church will need to fulfill her purposes is God’s help to provide us opportunities to serve. (Một điều nữa rất cần có để H/T hầu việc Chúa và đem vinh hiển đến cho Ngài đó là Chúa ban cho c/ta những cơ hội tốt.)

 

a) We need God to open the doors for us so we can serve and glorify Him.  (C/ta cần có Chúa giúp đỡ mở những “cánh cửa” để c/ta bắt lấy cơ hội tốt hầu việc mà làm sáng danh Ngài.)

# If you look back to the history of VHBC, I hope that you have recognized that most of the revivals occurred in this church came, when God has opened opportunites for us and we were willing to enter in. (Nếu quí vị chịu khó nhìn lại lịch sử của VHBC, đế ý thì thấy những cuộc phấn hưng lớn xảy ra trong H/T này là lúc Chúa đã mở những cửa cơ hội và c/ta đã bằng lòng bước vào.)

> Remind you few things in the past (Nhắc nhở vài cánh cửa Chúa đã mở cho VHBC trong quá khứ)

# In 1981, Victoria church leaders saw a door opened to reach out to the Vietnamese refugees. (Vào năm 1981, Hội Thánh Victoria đã thấy & bắt lấy “cánh cửa” gì? Chú tâm đến những người tị nạn Viêt-nam, từ đó đã bắt đầu một nhóm nhỏ.)

# In 1990, VHBC saw a similar door opened to reach out to the POW families. (Vào thập niên 1980-90, Hội Thánh Hy-vọng bắt lấy cơ hội gì? Chú tâm bảo trợ những gia đình Hát Ô qua Mỹ.)

> This is what I pray for VHBC in 2016 that God will open more doors, so we can recognize them, catch these opportunities to serve Him, and bring the most glory to Him, as Jesus once promised to the church in Philadelphia in the book of Revelation. (Đây là điều tôi thật mong ước trong năm 2016 này cho VHBC thấy được những cánh cửa cơ hội Chúa mở, để c/ta bước vào hầu việc, đem đến sự vinh hiển cho Ngài, y như Chúa đã hứa ban cho hội thánh Philađenphi trong sách Khải Huyền.)

 

 

IV. The Philadephia Church

 

1) Background - The book of Revelation can be divided into three main timelines. (Bối cảnh của sách Khải Huyền được chia ra làm 3 phần chính?)

# In Revelation 1:19 Jesus said to John – “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later.” (Trong Khải Huyền 1:19 – Chúa Giê-xu phán cùng Giăng – “Vậy hãy chép lấy những sự ngươi đã thấy, những việc nay hiện có và những việc sau sẽ đến,”)

a) In first Chapter, John had seen the appearance of living Lord Jesus. (Giăng đã thấy gì trong đoạn 1? Sự vinh hiển của Cứu Chúa Giê-xu, Đấng Sống hiện ra với mình,)

 

b) In Chapters 2-3, John saw “what is now.” (Những “việc nay hiện có” là khi nào trong đoạn 2-3)

# “Now” was about the 7 churches during John timing, representing most of the church in Asia Minor. (Tình trạng của 7 Hội Thánh trong lúc đó, nay là vùng nước thổ nhĩ kỳ (turkey); nhưng cũng ám chỉ tình trạng của các hội thánh trong thời kỳ sau rốt của chúng ta chăng?)

 

c) “What will take place later” are the things to come, described from Chapters 4 to 22 about 7 years of tribulation, church rapture, the return of Christ, 1,000 years of peace, new heaven & new earth and eternity. (“Những việc sau sẽ đến” từ đoạn 4-22 là những sự kiện xảy ra trong thời kỳ của 7 năm đại nạn, khi Chúa Giê-xu trở lại cất hội thánh đi, giai đoạn 1,000 thái bình, và thế giới đời đời.)

 

c) There are 7 churches mentioned in chapters 2 & 3 that Jesus sent letters to the pastors through John. (Trong đoạn 2-3 là những lá thư Chúa Giê-xu phán cùng 7 hội thánh qua sứ đồ Giăng.)

> All these letters typically have the introduction about Jesus and His words to each church including commendations, convictions, corrections, warnings, promises of rewards and ended with an invitation. (Trong những lá thư này luôn có những lời giới thiệu Chúa Giê-xu là ai, những điều Ngài biết rõ về Hội Thánh, và những lời Chúa phán cùng hội thánh: những lời khen, lời trách, lời cảnh cáo, lời hứa về phần thưởng, và cuối cùng luôn là lời mời gọi: “Ai có tai hãy nghe lời Đức Thánh Linh phán cùng Hội Thánh.)

> There are 2 special churches on this list that Jesus did not rebuke them – they are the churches of Sardis, and Philadelphia. (Đặc biệt trong 7 hội thánh thì có 2 H/T Chúa Giê-xu không có lời trách, đó là HT Simệcnơ và Philađenphi.)

> If Jesus asks me what church would you want to be for VHBC in 2016, I do not hesitate to say the Philadelphia church. (Nếu Chúa Giê-xu hỏi tôi, con muốn VHBC là H/T nào trong năm mới này, thì có lẽ tôi sẽ không ngần ngại nói xin Chúa cho c/con được như H/T Philađenphi.)

> Why? Because Jesus promised to this church that He would open a door for them that no one can shut. (Tại sao vì Chúa Giê-xu có hứa cho H/T Philađenphi là Ngài sẽ mở một cánh cửa cho họ mà không ai đóng được.)

> Why did the Philadelphia church need Jesus to open doors for them? (Tại sao H/T cần điều này?)

 

1) Because in v. 8 said the church has little strength to do great things for God in the mid of persecutions. (Vì Hội thánh Philađenphia có ít năng lực (nhỏ bé, tiểu số) để có thể làm được những việc lớn và khó cho Chúa, ở giữa sự khó khăn và bắt bớ.)

# While the world always depends on her knowledge and abilities, God’s church successes depend on God’s strength and wisdom. (Khác với “lẽ đời” sự thành công trực tiếp bởi năng sức, sự khôn ngoan của cá nhân, nhưng thành công của hội thánh hay không là do “tại Thiên.”)

> The church trusts God the Holy Spirit to guide, to open opportunities, to empower her to do great things for God because she is weak. (H/T tin cậy vào Chúa Thánh Linh là Đấng hướng dẫn, mở những cánh cửa, và ban cho quyền phép để làm được những việc lớn và khó cho Ngài vì hội yếu kém.)  

 

2) Because in v. 7 said Jesus has the key to open doors. (Bởi vì Chúa Giê-xu có chìa khóa để mở hoặc đóng những cánh cửa này.)

> He controls and holds the doors to future that no one can alter. (Ngài điều khiển và tể trị tương lai mà không ai thay đổi được.)

# “Doors” are opportunities for us to enter and fulfill our purposes as a church. (Cửa đây chính là những cơ hội để c/ta bắt lấy và sống đúng mục đích của một H/T Chúa.)

 

> Everything begins with God,; it starts when God opens the doors for the church. (Tất cả mọi điều đều bắt đầu từ Chúa khi Ngài mở những cánh cửa cho H/T.)

# Read the Old Testament, we saw that everything begun with God: from creations to deliveries of God’s people, from the rises and ends of all kingdoms – because God has the key in His hands. (Chú ý trong Cựu Ước, mọi sự bắt đầu từ nơi ĐCT, từ sự sáng tạo lạ lùng, đến những cuộc Chúa giải cứu dân sự mình, từ chỗ dấy lên cũng như hạ xuống những đế quốc trong lịch sử loài người.) 

> Jesus even has the key of the eternal life in God’s kingdom that no one has, and He will open the doors for the church to evangelize that goodnews. (Chúa có chìa khóa dẫn đến Nước ĐCT mà không ai có, và Ngài sẽ mở cửa cho H/T có cơ hội truyền bá tin lành này cho đến cùng thế giới.)

 

3) “Jesus knows what door to open and what door to close that no one can” this means that His will be done and not ours. (Những cánh cửa Chúa mở mà không ai đóng được hay là đóng mà không ai mở được nghĩa là trong mọi việc Ý Chúa sẽ được nên, chứ không theo ý của mình.)

> Some of the doors may not look good from the outside, but we have to trust God and enter them because they are His plan. (Có những cánh cửa Chúa mở có thể chúng ta không thích đi qua, vì tự thấy không thích hợp, nhưng đó là ý Chúa mà H/T phải vâng phục.)

# When God called Abraham to get out of his homeland to go to an unknow place, Abraham obeyed God and entered that door, even though he did not know where he and his family went. (Khi ĐCT gọi Ábraham phải rời khỏi xứ mình đi đến một vùng đất Chúa sai thì Ábraham đã vâng lời cho dù không biết mình và gia đình đi đâu.)

# When God called Moses to lead His people out of the slavery of Egypt, Moses obeyed even though he did not have an adequate gift of speech. (Khi ĐCT gọi Môise lãnh đạo dẫn dân sự Chúa ra khỏi vòng nô lệ ở xứ Êdíptô, ông vâng lời mặc dầu không có ơn ăn nói.)

 

> In the opposite, some doors may look good on our own thinking, but if Jesus closes them, we should not enter. (Ngược lại có thể có những cánh cửa trông có vẻ tiện lợi, nhưng nếu Chúa đã đóng rồi, thì c/ta không nên cứ đẩn cửa mà muốn vào.)

# In Acts 16:6-7, the Holy Spirit closed the door for Paul to go preaching in Asia – “Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. 7 When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.” (Trong Công Vụ 16:6-7 - Đức Thánh Linh cản Phaolô qua Asia trong chuyến truyền giáo thứ hai, nhưng phải qua phía Tây là phía Âu Châu bây giờ - “Đoạn, trải qua xứ Phi-ri-gi và đất Ga-la-ti, vì Đức Thánh Linh đã cấm truyền đạo trong cõi A-si. 7 Tới gần xứ My-si rồi, hai người sắm sửa vào xứ Bi-thi-ni; nhưng Thánh Linh của Đức Chúa Jêsus không cho phép,”)

 

> We as a church must always pay attention, recognize the doors that the Holy Spirit opens and sense His guidance to pursue these good opportunities to serve God; if not we will “miss the bus,” because opportunities will not always be there anymore. (H/T Chúa phải để ý những cánh cửa Chúa mở trước mắt c/ta và cảm nhận sự hướng dẫn của Ngài mà bắt lấy để hầu việc, nếu không e rằng c/ta sẽ đánh mất vì không phải cơ hội lúc nào cũng có đó.)

# There is a strange statue in France? Two hands covering up the eyes, and two wings open wide, and under it has a word description “Opporunity.” This statue tries to teach the viewers one imporantant truth: “If you don’t recognize the opportunity and pursue it, it will fly away one day.”

> How many opportunities has VHBC lost because of pride, laziness, indifferent, bitterness, jealousy, and unforgiving spirits? (Bao nhiêu cơ hội VHBC đã đánh mất bởi vì sự tư cao, lười biếng, tự mãn, ganh tị, ích kỷ, và tinh thần không tha thứ nhau?) 

# The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 should teach us a very important principle about the last worker who has one talent and digs a hole to cover his bag of gold that his owner has entrusted him, (Quí vị còn nhớ ẩn dụ Talâng không về người làm công thứ ba có một talâng đem đi đào lỗ chôn?)

> That principle is this “If you don’t use your talents, you will lose them; they will be given to another.” (Bài học dạy c/ta ở đây đó là nếu mình không xử dụng những ân tứ trong những cơ hội Chúa ban cho thì sẽ bị đánh mất một ngày và Chúa sẽ ban cho người khác, H/T khác.)

# As a church leader, I sometimes wonder that our church has over ___k$ budget in the bank, what should we do with this? When VHBC stands in front of Jesus – how would we answer Him Who has entrusted us this bag of gold? Will we have a good excuse? (Là một trong những người lãnh đạo, có khi tôi suy nghĩ đến ngân quỹ của H/T có trên ___k$ mà Chúa đã trao cho thì c/ta nên xử dụng như thế nào? Khi VHBC đứng trước mặt Chúa Giê-xu trong ngày sau rốt c/ta có lý do gì bào chữa không?)

 

> Young people – you need to discover the doors and serve God now, when you still have the opportunities. (Những thanh niên trẻ tuổi, các bạn phải chịu khó khám phá ra những cánh cửa nào Chúa đang gọi mình mà đi vào đề hầu việc, trước khi quá trễ mà cơ hội không còn nữa.)

> Suốt cả cuộc đời khi đứa bé lớn lên ông bà luôn nhắc con hãy dâng mình hầu việc Chúa đi.

> Nhưng khi lớn lên cô gái có nhiều những ước vọng (ambitions) đeo đuổi khác nên cứ từ chối.

> Cho đến ngày kia cô bị tai nạn xe cộ và nằm trong nhà thương cả tuần lễ.

> Bắt đầu mỗi ngày, hai ông bà nuôi đến thăm con, ngày đầu đem theo một bó hoa đẹp, (beautiful and fresh bouquet of roses) nhưng sau khi thăm rồi thì ra về đem theo bó hoa đó đi.

> Mỗi ngày đến thì cứ đem theo cùng một bó hoa đó.

> Đến cuối tuần khi thăm con lần cuối thì ông bà mới lấy bó hoa đó tặng cho con mình.

> Cô gái thốt lên khóc nói rằng: “Khi ba mẹ đến thăm con ngày đầu tại sao không tặng con bó hoa ngay, nhưng bây giờ nó đã héo (withered/faded) thì lại tặng con?”

> Ông bà giáo sĩ nhỏ nhẹ trả lời: “Con à! Khi con còn trẻ ba mẹ luôn khuyên con hãy dâng cuộc đời mình hầu việc Chúa đi, chớ khi con bệnh hoạn trên giường rồi thì còn làm chi được nữa; giống như là bó hoa này đã héo tàn thì hết gía trị để tặng nữa rồi, phải không con?” (My daughter, when you were young, we always encouraged you to serve God, but you did not have time; Now you are on the hospital bed, you can not do much for God even if you want too, just like this faded withered bouquet of roses now does not have much value anymore.)

> I and my wife had a  chance to visit a small church in Tucson, Arizona.

> I was in charge of the elderly group of about 5 people because they speak mostly Vietnamese.

> Their love for Jesus and willingness to serve Him that had really touched me.

> A lady is about 70 years old now – she shared her testimony that she wanted to serve God but did not know what to do.

> Many years ago, the church did not have a pianist to play for the Vietnamese group worship.

> So she decided to go and begun to take piano lessons when she was at 58 years old, and now is still helping playing piano for the church.

> To this day, she still goes taking piano lesson once a week to play it better to serve God’s church.

> God opened the door for her that no one can close, and He can do the same thing for each of us.

 

> We must always pay attention and ask - what door can I enter in to bring the most glory to God? (Mỗi người c/ta phải luôn để ý những cơ hội Chúa ban cho mà hầu việc Ngài để không nuối tiếc.)

 

> Let’s pray for VHBC that she can see the doors that God is opening before us, let’s pray that we all can have the confidence in His leading, let’s all can humble ourselves to enter these doors, serve, and bring the most glory to our God, and to Him alone. (C/ta phải cầu nguyện cho H/T thấy những cánh cửa Chúa đang mở trước mắt và với sự tin cậy nơi sự hướng dẫn của Thánh Linh mà bước vào hầu việc, để đem sự vinh hiển đến cho Chúa luôn.)

> Do you want VHBC to grow and be matured?

> Do you want God to be glorified through VHBC?

> Do you know WHO we are as a church? WHY are we still here, and HOW we can bring glory to God through this church?

# Don’t depend on our strength because VHBC has little strength to do great things for God.

# Ask the Holy Spirit for help because He promises to give us everything we need to fulfill our purposes.

# Ask Jesus to open doors for us to serve because He has the key of all opportunities.

# Together, we humbly enter these doors to serve our God and bring glory to Him.

 

> May be you are doing it already individually, but what about your cell groups, do we cooperatedly ask God to open doors so we can all be humble to enter and serve God together?

> Pray that each of us will never be a hinder in helping our church to see, to enter and to serve God with all the opportunities God has given us.

 

> Some may be serving God in the past actively. For some reasons, you stop doing it now.

> Don’t give up, keep on dreaming, pray and ask God to open doors, He will show you and lead you to the best opportuniries to serve.

> He will give you the creativity and the love for people to see the doors and serving Him.

God Opens Doors

(Revelation 3:7-8)

 

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”

 

            We already set a new motto for our church in 2016, based on 1 Corinthians 10:31 that are in everything we do, we will glorify God. First this can be done individually through our transformed life displaying the powers of God, our life of worship, our obedience to His words, and good works to show His love. But glorifying God can also be displayed cooperated through His church. How can the church bring glory to God? The answer is when the church lives and functions according to Jesus’ will. We first need to understand “WHO” is the church? The word “church” points to a group of people that God has “called out” from the world, to be sanctified and set apart for God’s own. The best picture of the church is a body that has many parts, and Jesus is the head. What does it mean to say that Jesus is the head? When we talk about the head, we talk about the Lordship of Jesus Christ; He controls every parts of His body. Jesus is the Lord meaning He has the ownership of His church; He is the King of His people. He gives commands and we obey.

 

            We must understand “WHY” did Jesus establish the church? It can be summarized in two main purposes: 1) For the building up the faith, and 2) to share the good News to the end of the earth. Do you have a desire for His church to grow in quality (maturing faith), as well as quantity in numbers as many people can hear of the Gospel and be saved, added to God’s kingdom?

 

            “HOW” can the church bring glory to God by fulfilling her purposes? Don’t forget helps from the Holy Spirit Who Jesus once promised to give to the church. How does the Holy Spirit help us?

            a) First, the Holy Spirit gives powers to life from living victoriously over sins, the power to witness and the resurrected power of new and incorruptible bodies one day.

            b) Another important of the His works is that the Holy Spirit purifies us to be more liked Christ.

            c) The third important work of the Spirit of God is that He teaches guides and reminds us the Word of God.

 

            There is one more thing the church will need to fulfill her purposes is God’s help to provide us opportunities to serve. We need God to open the doors for us so we can serve and glorify Him. This is what I pray for VHBC in 2016 that God will open more doors, so we can recognize them, pursue these opportunities to serve Him and bring the most glory to Him, as Jesus once promised with the church in Philadelphia in the book of Revelation. There are 7 churches mentioned in chapters 2&3 of Revelation that Jesus sent letters to the pastors through John. All these letters typically have the introduction about Jesus and His words to each church including commendations, convictions, corrections, warnings, and promises of rewards and ended with an invitation. There are 2 special churches on this list that Jesus did not rebuke them – they are the churches of Smiyar, and Philadelphia. If Jesus asks me what church would you want to be for VHBC in 2016, I do not hesitate to say the Philadelphia church. Why? Because Jesus promised to this church that He would open a door for them that no one can shut. Why did the Philadelphia church need Jesus to open doors for them? Because in v. 8 said the church has little strength to do great things for God in the mid of persecutions. Because in v. 7 said Jesus has the key to open doors. “Doors” are opportunities for us to enter and fulfill our purposes as a church. Everything begins with God; He opens the doors for the church. Jesus has the key of the eternal life in God’s kingdom that no one has, and He will open the doors for the church to evangelize that goodnews. “Jesus knows what door to open and what door to close that no one can” this means that His will be done and not ours. We must always pay attention, recognize the doors that the Holy Spirit opens and sense His guidance to catch good opportunities to serve God; if not we will “miss the bus,” because opportunities will not always be there anymore. How many opportunities has VHBC lost because of pride, laziness, indifferent, bitterness, jealousy, and unforgiving spirits? Young people – you need to discover the doors and serve God now, before it is too late.

 

            Let’s pray for VHBC to see the doors that God is opening before us. Let’s pray that we all can have the confidence in His leading. Let’s all can humble ourselves to enter these doors, serve, and bring the most glory to our God, and to Him alone. Let’s pray that we will be liked the Philadelphia church. Amen!
