(Xuất Hành 17:8-16)

Support One Another’s Hands

 

“Cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên đi từ đồng vắng Sin, đi từng trạm, tùy theo lịnh Đức Giê-hô-va, đóng trại tại Rê-phi-đim; ở đó chẳng có nước cho dân sự uống… 8 Vả, khi đó, dân A-ma-léc đến khêu chiến cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Rê-phi-đim. 9 Môi-se bèn nói cùng Giô-suê rằng: Hãy chọn lấy tráng sĩ cho chúng ta, ra chiến đấu cùng dân A-ma-léc; ngày mai ta sẽ đứng nơi đầu nổng, cầm gậy của Đức Chúa Trời trong tay. 10 Giô-suê bèn làm y như lời Môi-se nói, để cự chiến dân A-ma-léc; còn Môi-se, A-rôn và Hu-rơ lên trên đầu nổng. 11 Vả, hễ đang khi Môi-se giơ tay lên, thì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên thắng hơn; nhưng khi người xụi tay xuống, dân A-ma-léc lại thắng hơn. 12 Tay Môi-se mỏi, A-rôn và Hu-rơ bèn lấy đá kê cho người ngồi, rồi ở hai bên đỡ tay người lên; tay người chẳng lay động cho đến khi mặt trời lặn. 13 Giô-suê lấy lưỡi gươm đánh bại A-ma-léc và dân sự người. 14 Đức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng Môi-se rằng: Hãy chép điều nầy trong sách làm kỷ niệm, và hãy nói cho Giô-suê biết rằng ta sẽ bôi sạch kỷ niệm về A-ma-léc trong thiên hạ. 15 Môi-se lập lên một bàn thờ, đặt tên là "Giê-hô-va cờ xí của tôi"; 16 và nói rằng: Bởi vì A-ma-léc có giơ tay lên nghịch cùng ngôi Đức Giê-hô-va, nên Đức Giê-hô-va chinh chiến với A-ma-léc từ đời nầy qua đời kia.”

(“The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded… 8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.” 10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.” 14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[c] the throne of the Lord,[d] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”)

 

 

I. The Church and Jesus’ Great Commission

 

> Jesus came into this world to fulfill His father’s will… that is to become the atonement, a full “paid-off” for our sins by dying on the cross; So, all who believe in Him - will become right with God, and have the eternal life in His heavenly kingdom one day. (Chúa Giê-su đến thế gian làm trọn ý muốn của Đức Chúa Cha, đó là trở nên của lễ chuộc tội, trả gía mọi món nợ tội lỗi cho nhân loại, hầu cho hễ ai tin Ngài thì trở nên công bình và nhận được sự sống đời đời trong nước thiên đàng một ngày.)

> But Jesus resurrected from death to life after 3 days; His work on earth is NOT yet done, it must continue until the end time; So, Jesus did 2 things before and after He ascended back to heaven: (Nhưng Chúa đã sống lại sau 3 ngày, thăng thiên về trời, công việc của Ngài trên đất chưa xong, nên Chúa đã làm 2 điều:)

 

1) First, He established the church on earth for the advance of God’s kingdom. (Thứ nhất, Chúa đã thiết lập nên Hội Thánh, để ý Cha được nên, nước Cha được mau đến.)

# In Matthew 16:18 Jesus said – “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock (Himself – the Gospel) I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (Trong Mathiơ 16, Chúa Giê-su phán – “Còn ta, ta bảo ngươi rằng: Ngươi là Phi-e-rơ, ta sẽ lập Hội thánh ta trên đá nầy (là Hòn Đá Góc Nhà chính Ngài), các cửa âm phủ chẳng thắng được hội đó.”)

> How can the church advance God’s kingdom? (Làm sao Hội Thánh làm tấn tới nước thiên đàng?)

# By obeying Jesus’ great commission in Matthew 28:19-20 – “Therefore (church) go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…” (Bởi vâng lời thi hành đại mạng lệnh của Chúa giao, có chép trong Mathiơ 28 – “Vậy hãy đi làm cho mọi dân trở thành môn đồ Ta; hãy nhân danh Ðức Chúa Cha, Ðức Chúa Con, và Ðức Thánh Linh làm báp-têm cho họ, và dạy họ giữ tất cả những gì Ta đã truyền cho các ngươi. Và nầy, Ta ở với các ngươi luôn cho đến tận thế.”)

 

2) Secondly, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, our Helper - Who would equip the church with spiritual gifts and the power to fulfill our callings of the great commission. (Điều thứ hai Chúa Giê-su đã làm là sai Thánh Linh giáng trên các môn đồ, ban cho ơn hầu việc và quyền phép để làm trọn đại sứ mạng.)

 

> Because this is the will of God, we as the church - must unify to face against the enemies’ forces, depend on the power of the Holy Spirit in prayer, and working together to accomplish the great commission. (Vì là ý Chúa, Hội Thánh phải hiệp nhất để chống lại những kẻ thù cản trở công việc Chúa, phải biết dựa trên quyền phép của Thánh Linh trong sự cầu nguyện, và phải cùng hiệp tác chu toàn đại sứ mạng Chúa giao.)

 

 

II. Israel and Her Enemies

 

> The journey of God’s people in the Old Testament yesterday out of Egypt’s slavery, wandering in the desert, as they journeyed to the promised land… reflects a picture of the Christian and church life today… overcoming the world and marching to heaven. (Cuộc hành trình của dân sự Chúa trong Cựu Ước khi ra khỏi xứ nô lệ Ai cập, lưu đầy trong đồng vắng đến đất hứa, là hình ảnh của Hội Thánh Chúa ngày nay chiến đấu với kẻ thù thuộc linh và chuẩn bị đến nước thiên đàng.)

 

> The scriptures we read this morning said - as soon as God’s people, the Israelites crossed the Red sea, going South, came to the Desert of Sin, a place called Rephidim, they were attacked by the Amalekites. (Lời Chúa chép khi dân sự Ngài mới ra khỏi Ai cập, băng qua Biển Đỏ, hướng về phía Nam, đến đồng vắng Sin thì bị dân Amaléc tấn công, có lẽ vì sợ họ chiếm đất mình?)

> The Amalekites had become enemies of Israelites for many years, as God’s people wandered in the wilderness and even after entered the promised land. (Dân Amaléc hay gây chiến với dân Ysơraên, kể cả lúc họ đã vào đất hứa.)

> Here was the first time the Israeliets engaging in warfare as soon as they got out of Egypt. (Đây là cuộc chiến đầu tiên mà dân sự Chúa đối diện với, khi mới ra khỏi xứ Ai Cập.)

 

> How did God’s people overcome in this battle with the Amalekites? (Làm thế nào mà dân sự Chúa thắng dân Amaléc vậy?)

1) First principle - Everyone fulfilled their callings and duties. (Nguyên tắc thứ nhất là vì mọi người trong vòng dân sự Chúa đều làm trọn vai trò/trách nhiệm của mình.)

> Soldiers who followed orders to carry their weapons and fought in the battle until the end, until victory was declared; eventhough, they were not experienced soldiers. (Những người chiến sĩ vâng theo mạng lệnh đem vũ khí ra chiến đấu cho đến cùng, mặc dầu họ không phải là những dũng sĩ chuyên môn?)

# They did not complain – why me? Why can’t I be like Joshua? (Họ không có phàn nàn, so sánh nhau mà không muốn làm phần của mình.)

 

2) Secondly, they had military leaders, such as the general Joshua - who was doing his job to plan out, to lead, to train soldiers on how to fight the enemies. (Điều thứ hai họ có những người lãnh đạo quân sự, như Giôsuê cũng làm trọn việc chỉ huy cho mình.)

> Joshua obeyed Moses’ command: He did not pass his responsibility to someone else. (Giôsuê vâng lời của người lãnh đạo Môise trên mình đem quân ra đánh; ông không đổ thừa trách nhiệm đó cho người khác.)

# Joshua didn’t complain and said: “Moses, I don’t want to go to the batlle field. Why don’t you go out and fight; let me go up to the mountain and inquire God?” But He submitted to his leader’s command to carry out the fight. (Giôsuê không phàn nàn, cứ làm theo y như mạng lệnh của Môise.)

 

3) For Moses, he was doing his job as a mediator between God and His people, by calling on to the Lord for help, because: (Còn Môise thì đại diện làm người trung bảo giữa vòng dân sự Chúa, để cầu thay sự cứu trợ đến từ Ngài, vì ông biết:)

a) The enemies were stronger than his people. God’s people were not well trained or ready for battle. The Israelites just got out of the slavery in Egypt, where they were brick makers and builders, not warriors. (Môise biết quân địch mạnh hơn dân sự Chúa. Trong vòng họ chưa có ai được huấn luyện là dũng sĩ, vì họ mới ra khỏi xứ Ai Cập, nơi mà họ chỉ là thợ làm gạch xây đền, chứ có biết tranh chiến là gì đâu.)

> They probably had limited weapons, no heavy artillaries, no chariots and horses. (Dân Chúa có lẽ không có nhiều vũ khí, không xe, không ngựa, chỉ đánh tay không với giáo và xẻng?)

> Moses had a specific role, that was to just hold the staff of God and raised up high toward heaven. (Môise làm một việc rất đơn sơ, nhưng rất là quan trọng để thắng cuộc chiến này, đó là ông chỉ cầm gậy của Chúa mà giơ lên cao hướng về trời.)

> His job was not liked Joshua to take a sword, to come out to the battle and fight, but just holding and raising a staff high. (Công việc của ông không phải cầm gươm, nhưng cầm gậy; không phải để chiến đấu, nhưng chỉ giơ gậy cao hướng về Đức Chúa Trời.)

> The act of Moses’ lifting up his staff expressed their faith and continuous dependence on God, the only One they had at that moment - Who is the great Creator, the Almighty One, the Lord of hosts – heavenly armies, Who would go before them and fight for them. (Hành động đó biểu tượng cho tấm lòng nhờ cậy và sự lệ thuộc nương cậy của họ vào Chúa, là Đấng Chí Cao, Quyền năng, Vua của các vệ binh thiên sứ trên các từng trời.)

> Have you experienced this kind of faith in your lifetime, when dealing with life difficulties and God is the only One you have, and the only One can help you to do the job?

 

> Clearly, this battle was NOT fought by human efforts… but by faith, because when Moses’ hands were weaken and dropped down, the Israelites was losing the battle; but as long as Moses’ hands holding the staff held up high, showing their trust and dependence on God, they advanced and were winning. The battle clearly belonged to the Lord. (Rõ ràng trận chiến này không bằng sức năng của con người, nhưng bởi đức tin nơi Chúa, vì khi tay của Môise mệt mỏi hạ xuống thì dân Amaléc thắng, nhưng nếu tay cầm gậy của Môise cứ nâng lên cao thì dân Ysơraên thắng.)

> Today, we lift the staff high… when we kneel to pray, seeking God to interfere and deliver us from our life troubles and enemies. (Ngày hôm nay, c/ta nâng gậy lên cao khi c/ta quỳ gối cầu nguyện, tìm kiếm Chúa liên hệ và giải cứu c/ta ra khỏi những nan đề khó khăn trong cuộc sống này.)

# Just like Mr. Jack Phillips, the cake master in Colorado, that was sued by a gay couple.

> For many years he had to be restrained under strict orders and paid heavy fines because of a discrimination crime. I am sure he was praying a lot, lifting up the staff everyday, and many others did also, and last week, the supreme court (tối cao pháp viện) ordered 7-2 in favor of Jack.

> Jack paid the price to protect the religious freedom (quyền tự do sống theo tín ngưỡng của mình), the question is - what did you & I pay?

 

4) But it was a long battle until sunset, with no lunch breaks, or afternoon naps, and Moses’ hands were weary and tired. (Nhưng cuộc chiến này kéo dài cho đến mặt trời lặn, không được nghỉ ngơi, cho nên tay của Môise mệt mỏi và bắt đầu hạ thấp xuống.)

> When Moses’ hands dropped, the Israelites was losing the battle, and here came two helpers for Moses: named Aaron (his brother) and Hur. (Khi xảy ra như vậy thì có 2 người, Arôn và Hurơ đến gần đỡ tay Môise cao lên lại.)

> Their job was very simple that anyone coud do, require no special skill, but it requires endurance to stand besides Moses all the time with no rest, just to hold up Moses’ hands, one person on each side, when Moses felt weak and dropped his hands. (Công việc này rất đơn giản, nhưng cần sự kiên trì. Hai người phải luôn ở bên cạnh Môise mà nâng đỡ tay của ông khi bị hạ xuống.)

# They did not complain – why am I doing this so simple task, not matching with my title, my degree or my skill? Why can’t I be a military leader liked Joshua? I don’t want to be anyone’s servant, like washing dishes, setting up tables and chairs, or teaching children?

> Both Aaron and Hur were faithful with their callings; they did not feel their job was not matched with their skills and talents or quit their responsibilities? (Cả Arôn và Hurơ trung tín với trách nhiệm của mình, không phàn nàn vì công việc này không đáng với khả năng của mình mà bỏ cuộc.)

# A young pastor just got out of seminary with a Phd in theology, and was assigned by the church with many simple tasks, teaching Sunday School for teens, picking up children to church? Then one day he felt frustrated and asked - Why these simple tasks with all my degree?

> One of the church leaders said – “Oh, we don’t doubt your theology knowledge, but we are not sure if you can do small tasks when the church needs you. So, we want to test it out.”

 

> The battle is clearly belonged to God and it could only win by faith in God, for those who seek and look up to Him with all their heart. (Rõ ràng trận chiến thuộc của Chúa và chỉ có thể chiến thắng bằng đức tin nơi Ngài, cho những ai tìm kiếm Chúa hết lòng.)

> Only by the Almighty God we can taste victory – “Nike,” that was why after the victory Moses put up an altar to worship God and named Him – the Lord is my Banner. (Chỉ bởi quyền năng của Chúa mà c/ta nếm sự chiến thắng, vì vậy mà sau khi thắng dân Amaléc, Môise lập một bàn thờ, đặt tên Đức Chúa Trời là "Giê-hô-va cờ xí của tôi" nghĩa là Đức Giêhôva là sự chiến thắng của tôi;)

# In every battle, whoever side could raise up their flag/banner last, it is a clear sign of their victory! 

 

 

III. The Church and Her Victory

 

> So does the church of God today, while we are waiting for the promise of Jesus’ return to bless us with a heavenly kingdom, we must 1) carry out the great commission, bringing goodnews to the end of the earth, and 2) to fight against the forces of evil, of satan - who is the prince of this world that is always trying to hinder people coming to Jesus. (Cũng vậy, Hội Thánh Chúa ngày nay phải làm trọn đại sứ mạng, đem Tin Lành cho cùng trái đất, cho mọi dân tộc, và phải chống trả lại quyền lực của satan/ma quỉ, luôn cản trở mọi người đến với Chúa Giê-su để được cứu.)

> God’s enemies in the Old Testament, like the Amalekites represent our enemies today… that are the flesh (inner enemy), the world (outside enemy), and satan, the devils (invisble enemies). (Kẻ thù của dân sự Chúa ngày xưa, như dân Amaléc, biểu tượng cho kẻ thù của c/ta ngày nay, nào là tự dục xác thịt (kẻ thù bên trong), thế gian - kẻ thù bên ngoài, và satan, ma quỉ là kẻ thù vô hình.)

> Satan and the devils will do all they can, because they know their time of condemnation is near… with 3 main objectives: (Ma quỉ nó biết ngày giờ phán xét của nó đã gần rồi, nên làm hết sức.)

1) to tempt many Christians falling into all kinds of sins from greediness to sexual sins – keep many Christians to remain being spiritual babies, (Cám dỗ con dân Chúa sa ngã vào đủ mọi thứ tội nhơ, kềm giữ nhiều tín hữu cứ ở trong tình trạng “em bé thuộc linh” hoài.)

2) to divide the churches by causing misunderstanding, jealousy, quarrelling, and (Nó chia rẽ sự hiệp nhất trong vòng Hội Thánh bởi những sự hiểu lầm, xích mích, tranh chấp hay ghen tị.)

3) to damage Christian family happiness, because they know if a dissented church, or a divided family between husbands and wives, parents and children, among the relatives… then the light will no longer shine, the salt will lose its saltiness. We become just “puppets” for them to control in this world. (Nó phá hoại hạnh phúc gia đình của nhiều người, bởi vì nó biết một gia đình có xích mích thì vợ chồng không thể hiệp một hầu việc Chúa được nữa, thì muối sẽ hết mặn, và đèn không còn tỏa sáng cho Chúa nữa.)

 

> Jesus’ church must do the same as the Israelites overcame the Amalek, to fulfill our callings for the great commission. (C/ta phải bắt cước dân sự Chúa ngày xưa để thắng kẻ thù mình.)

 

1) First, each of us must recognize the collective and personal callings from God? (Mỗi người c/ta phải nhận biết tiếng Chúa gọi mình.)

> Are you a soldier? Are you a leader? Are you a teacher? Are you a servant? Are you a pray-warrior?

> Are you just a “hand-holder?” a “feet washer?” A Sunday school/VBS teacher aid, a meal preparer, a decorator, a handy-man, a godly mother or father? A Jesus-like Christian?

> Do you know… what God has called you to do? (Bạn có biết rõ Chúa muốn mình làm gì không?)

# So many time we come to church and miss the opportunity to hear God’s voice, because we are spiritually deaf, we are callous with no heart conviction to hear His voice? (Biết bao nhiêu lần c/ta đến nhà thờ, như một người điếc, tấm lòng c/ta cứng cõi không có sự cáo trách nào của Chúa hết?)

> It’s not so important whether how many times you come to church, but it is seriously important that - did you meet God and hear His calling for your life when you are at church? (Điều quan trọng nhất không phải là mình có đi nhà thờ mấy lần, nhưng c/ta có gặp được Chúa và nghe tiếng Ngài khi c/ta vào nhà thờ thờ phượng Chúa không?)

# Do you remember the prophet Isaiah when he entered the temple and saw the glory of God, he heard God callings, and immediately said “Lord! Here I am, send me.”

 

> How do you come to church? Do you see anything, hear anything, or feel anything? Or your desires of the flesh just overwhelm you, distract your thoughts, and emotion? (Bạn đến nhà thờ có thấy gì, nghe gì, mong ước gì, hay chỉ để những điều thế gian thống trị tâm trí mình?)

> We must train our ears to listen of God’s calling, and our eyes to see the people needs. (C/ta phải huấn luyện 2 lỗ tai của mình nghe được tiếng Chúa và 2 con mắt thấy nhu cầu của những người xung quanh mình.)

> Our heart must be convicted to move us into a commitment to do something about what you heard God is speaking to you. (C/ta phải cam kết muốn làm gì đó về những gì Chúa đã cho mình thấy và được nghe.)

# You cannot hear God’s callings and discern His voice, if you do not draw yourself into His words by skipping Sunday School and worships, because often one of the sure ways God speaks to us and reveals His will to us through the Bible during our Bible study time. (C/ta không thể nghe được tiếng Chúa, nếu c/ta không đến gần với lời Ngài, bỏ học Trường Chúa Nhật, bỏ nhóm, bởi vì một trong những cách chắc chắn Chúa phán cùng c/ta đó là qua lời Kinh Thánh không hề thay đổi.)

# Jesus said in John 10 – “The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” (Trong Giăng 10 – Chúa Giê-su dùng ẩn dụ “Người chăn hiền lành,” Ngài nói: “Người canh cửa mở cho chiên nghe tiếng người chăn; người chăn kêu tên chiên mình mà dẫn ra ngoài. 4 Khi người đã đem chiên ra hết, thì đi trước, chiên theo sau, vì chiên quen tiếng người. 5 Nhưng chiên chẳng theo người lạ; trái lại nó chạy trốn, vì chẳng quen tiếng người lạ.)

# I pray a lot about what messages I would bring to the church every Sundays, and often the answers come from the time I have devotion privately with God each morning.

 

2) We must discover the spiritual gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us and use them. (C/ta phải khhám phá ra những ân tứ thuộc linh, Thánh Linh ban cho mà đem ra sử dụng.)

> What are you good with? Start something, doing something, dream up something for God.

> What do you like to do? What challenge you in life? What kind of skills do you have?

 

> Each of us must have at least one gift, and probably none of us has exactly the same amount and the same kinds of gifts. (Mỗi người c/ta có tối thiểu một ơn tứ để hầu việc.)

# Ephesians 4 – “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Trong Êphêsô 4 có chép một số những ơn: “Ấy chính Ngài đã cho người nầy làm sứ đồ, kẻ kia làm tiên tri, người khác làm thầy giảng Tin Lành, kẻ khác nữa làm mục sư và giáo sư…)

# Romans 12 – “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” (Trong Rôma 12 có them một số khác – “Vì chúng ta có các sự ban cho khác nhau, tùy theo ơn đã ban cho chúng ta, ai được ban cho nói tiên tri, hãy tập nói theo lượng đức tin; 7 ai được gọi đến làm chức vụ, hãy buộc mình vào chức vụ; ai dạy dỗ, hãy chăm mà dạy dỗ; 8 ai gánh việc khuyên bảo, hãy khuyên bảo; ai bố thí, hãy lấy lòng rộng rãi mà bố thí; ai cai trị, hãy siêng năng mà cai trị; ai làm sự thương xót, hãy lấy lòng vui mà làm.”)

# 1 Corinthians 12 – “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.” (Trong 1 Côrinhtô 12 chép – “Đức Thánh Linh tỏ ra trong mỗi một người, cho ai nấy đều được sự ích chung. 8 Vả, người nầy nhờ Đức Thánh Linh, được lời nói khôn ngoan; kẻ kia nhờ một Đức Thánh Linh ấy, cũng được lời nói có tri thức. 9 Bởi một Đức Thánh Linh, cho người nầy được đức tin; cũng bởi một Đức Thánh Linh ấy, cho kẻ kia được ơn chữa tật bịnh; 10 người thì được làm phép lạ; kẻ thì được nói tiên tri; người thì được phân biệt các thần; kẻ thì được nói nhiều thứ tiếng khác nhau, người thì được thông giải các thứ tiếng ấy...”)

 

> Last week, our team went around a trailer park behind the church to pass out VBS invitation. We saw at the end of the park, there was a tent and a bunch of kids speaking Spanish gathering there. We came and found out that a Christian couple, named Mark & Jan – once a month they go there, set up a tent, serve pizzas, and the kids in this trailer park come to eat, and this couple shares with them the story about Jesus.

> It’s pretty simple task, no cooking skill required, but the couple uses their time to serve Jesus by serving Spanish kids in that poor trailer park.

 

> One of the important gifts that many of us don’t recognize, and that is “time.” (Một trong những ân tứ quan trọng mà thường c/ta không để ý mà mọi người đều có, đó là “thì giờ.”)

# These days living in America - It’s easier to sign a check and put it in the offering plates; but it is difficult to share time with others?

# If you don’t believe me, ask yourself this question - Have you spent anytime last week to help anyone in the name of Jesus? It’s not easy with our busy life, right? (Bạn đã để ra thì giờ bao nhiêu trong tuần qua để giúp đỡ một người nào đó (cắt cỏ, đưa đón, VBS) trong danh Chúa Giê-su?)

# How many minutes you took from yesterday to pray for someone?

 

3) We must be faithful in exercising our spiritual gifts through serving the church together. (C/ta phải hiệp nhất hầu việc Chúa với nhau.)

> Have you checked yourself with the duty the church has asked you to do, either pastoring, deaconing, teaching, leading, caring, book keeping, cooking, secretering… Am I doing a good job for God? Is Jesus satisified with my faithfulness? Is there anything I need to improve? (C/ta có thường xuyên tự xét về trách nhiệm mình có trước mặt Chúa không, sự hầu việc của mình có làm Ngài thỏa lòng không, như là c/ta hăng say làm việc ở ngoài đời vậy?)

> Do not be lazy; Do not blame on someone else; it is your personal account with God; (Đừng sống lười biếng, đứng đổ lỗi cho hoàn cảnh, mỗi người phải chịu trách nhiệm riêng với Chúa.)

> Do not compare yourself with each other – God hates when we do this; Ask Adam and Eve, then you know what happened to them, an ending up to us? (Đừng so sánh mình với người bên cạnh.)

> Do not complain to God, learn from the mistake of the Israelites – they travelled in the desert for 40 years with much difficulties because of this sin; (Đừng phàn nàn mà bị đưa vào đồng vắng sao?)

> Do not look down on what God calls you to do – He does not require greatness, but expects faithfulness; God does not demand results, but looks for obedience day-in and day-out until He comes again. (Chúa không đòi hỏi sự thành công, hay kết quả, Ngài tìm sự trung tín và vâng lời.)

> Just do what you are called to do… and serve in harmony together.

 

4) Always remember that the victory power is from God by never lacking in praying. (Luôn nhớ rằng sự chiến thắng đến từ Chúa và thuộc của Ngài mà cầu nguyện không thôi.)

> Only the Holy Spirit of God can give us victory. (Chỉ có Thánh Linh ban cho sự chiến thắng.)

> Lift up your faith high to God; Raise your staff and keep it there; ask someone to help you holding your arms and never quit from weeks to weeks, from months to months. (Luôn nâng gậy lên cao, hướng về Chúa; khi tay mệt mỏi, nhờ những người khác nâng đỡ mình cứ tiếp tục tin cậy Chúa hoàn toàn.)

> Draw yourself near the altar to praise God for He is fighting for us – the battles belong to God! (Tự kéo mình gần bàn thờ luôn để ca ngợi và cảm tạ Chúa, vì sự tiếp trợ của Ngài.)

> Don’t trust on human strength and wisdom for they are no more than living creatures breathing through their nostrils;

 

 

IV. An Example of Working Together

 

> A perfect example of serving God together is the VBS each year. (Một thí dụ của sự hiệp tác hầu việc Chúa chung là chương trình Thánh Kinh mùa Hè.)

> The purpose of VBS is a part of the great commission to bring good news to children and train them become Jesus’ disciples. (Mục đích có liên hệ đến đại mạng lệnh.)

> This ministry requires a lot of preparation, and helps from many church people working together. (Mục vụ này cần rất nhiều người hiệp tác với nhau.)

a) First, we need some pray-warriors, I called God-searching/knocking/seeking soldiers; (Những dũng sĩ kiên trì cầu nguyện.)

b) We need leaders liked Joshua, liked Moses who plan out, encourage and train others; (Những người lãnh đạo tận tụy chuẩn bị và xếp đặt chương trình cách chu đáo.)

c) We need some volunteers being teachers to study, plan and teach Bible to children; (Những người tự nguyện làm thầy cô hướng dẫn Kinh Thánh.)

d) We need some workers in the kitchen preparing and cooking food; (Những người chuẩn bị trong nhà bếp.)

e) Some are doing outreach, visitation, passing out invitation to kids, including those kids speaking Spanish; (Người khác lo việc thăm viếng.)

g) Some doing the decorations, music, powerpoints, making T-shirt, games, activities, giving, clean-up… (Người khác lo trang trí, nhạc lý, sinh hoạt, dọn dẹp…)

> We have worked together every year for VBS, but the work is not done yet. (Nhưng công việc này cũng chưa xong.)

> It needs a lot of follow-up: who will visit these kids, meet their parents and invite them to church? (Ai sẽ là người sẽ đi thăm viếng những gia đình của các em và giới thiệu Chúa Giê-su với?)

# Who will put up “a tent, buy pizzas, and invite kids to come, so you can share a story of Jesus?”

# Who will continue set up a table at the “La Morenita” market on Florida boulevard once a month and passing out Christian tracts?

 

> Are we there yet? Is VHBC catching the vision of God of what He wants us to be? (C/ta đã có nhìn thấy một đồng lúa chín vàng chưa?)

> Please just practice this every time you come to church and read the information in the church bulletin, look at the church calendar, read behind the calendar, then just be silent for a few seconds and pray – “Lord! What can I do to be involved in this mission, other needs? Here I am, send me!” (Hãy tập mỗi khi đọc và nghe về những sinh hoạt của Hội Thánh thì cầu nguyện thầm, xin Chúa chỉ cách cho mình dự phần.)

> Just think if everyone of us has that attitude of serving God and others together – How VHBC will be in the next year, 5, 10 years from now? (Cứ thử nghĩ đi, chuyện gì sẻ xảy ra ở đây nếu mỗi con cái Chúa đều có thái độ như vậy?)

> A spiritual explosion will happen at 7133 Greenwell Springs Rd. Baton Rouge, LA 70805. (Sẽ có sự bùng nổ, phục hưng ngay tại địa chỉ này?)

> Please stop living selfishly, but set a life example to your kids of how the church should serve together to bring glory to God.

 

> You cannot have an attitude “don’t care, let everything takes care itself in church, somebody will do it?” (Bạn không thể nào có thái độ hững hờ, cứ nói sẽ có những người khác lo?)

# Let’s just say your shop has more customers this year as the economy growing, you do not have enough space to serve, not enough products to sell, not enough workers to serve; do you say to yourself: “Well, don’t worry, I don’t have to do anything, everything will take care itself!”

> No, you will sweat your days and nights to find more qualified workers to serve, you will expand your shop bigger… then why can’t you think like that for the church of God and His works?

 

# Story of some nails on top of a church roof holding a cross high. But because they received no compliment, nobody cared, and it was hot under the sun; So, these nails decided to leave and went out of their places. Then the wind comes, blowing and blowing. The cross started shaking, vibrating, wobbling, and finally fell down, because there was nothing, not even a nail holding the cross in its place. (Chuyện của những cái đinh trên nóc một nhà thờ, để giữ chặt cây thập tự, nhưng c/nó tự bỏ đi khỏi chỗ mình. Rồi mưa gío kéo đến, cây thập tự lung lay, và cuối cùng ngã đổ, vì không có cái đinh nào giữ nó.)

 

> Don’t be those nails; but fulfill your duties, do not quit, but serve together… until the day Jesus returns and says to VHBC – “Good and faithful servants! Come and enjoy the eternal life with Me in paradise forever!” (Đừng như những cái đinh đó, nhưng hãy trung tín trong chức vụ mình và hiệp tác hầu việc Chúa chung, cho đến ngày Ngài trở lại đem theo phần thưởng trên tay và khen VHBC là những đầy tớ trung tín và ngay lành, hãy vào Baradi hưởng sự sống đời đời.)

 

------------------------ Invitation

 

> How many times have you come to church with no feeling toward the things of God?

> “Oh well, just another sermon, same Bible lesson about the cross; it’s not real, it’s not practical.”

> The problem is our faith is drifting away and God is being edged out of our life?

> Is God real? Is His Spirit power real? Is Jesus living in us today?

> We must answer these questions everyday.

> God’s “www” will is to save the world unto Himself – no one perish.

> That was why - He sent Jesus, His Son to die for our sins on th cross.

> Jesus established the church and sent the Holy Spirit to continue fulfilling His Father will.

> He gave the great commission to the church so we can continue His work until the end of time.

 

> How are we doing? How is VHBC functioning?

# If VHBC is your “shop, or your store” – are you happy or not very satisfied with it?

> What will you do about it if you are not happy with your shop?

> What would you do if Jesus, our Master is not happy with His church?

 

> We must unify and work together carrying our callings and defend the faith against the “Amalekites?”

1) We must have the same goal/purpose – to win the spiritual battle, overcoming our enemy.

2) We must fulfill our different roles: soldier, leaders, hand-help servants, and mediator to God.

3) We must be faithful to our callings from the morning until the sunset; none of us can go to sleep, no complained, no one quited – we are just doing our jobs.

4) We must be submissive to our leaders who are submissive and depend on God.

> That is the unity and faith in God’s Almighty power that can win any kind of battles, and doesn’t matter how big and strong our enemies are.

 

> Do you want to win your own spiritual warfare? Is VHBC winning in this city?

> Are we united under God, or each of us doing our own things?

> Do we know our callings, our purpose, our gifts, our roles and join the army of God?

> Do we recognize the enemies? They are attacking our families, individuals, and the church.

> Do we lift up our staffs high and pray everyday?

> Each of us should constanly ask the Holy Spirit – who am I in Your army? What are my spiritual gifts? How can I be involved in building up God’s kingdom on earth? How can I edify Your church?

 

> You have peace when you place your faith in God/Jesus; but in order to continue having joy, you must discover ways to serve God, His church and others.

# Remember the formula of JOY = Jesus first, Others second, and You last.

> Have you found this truth yet?

> Come to Jesus, place your faith in Him, and commit to serve His church! Anyone wants to joy Jesus’ army – the winning team?

 

> We are 1 in the body of Christ; and we have 1 goal – work together to advance the kingdom of God until Jesus returns.

> We have the power by His Spirit on our side – and that’s ALL we need.
